Tourist attractions in Dominica Island
Dominica is an island republic. The capital, Roseau, is located on the leeward side of the island. Dominica has been nicknamed the Nature Isle of the Caribbean for its natural environment.
It is the youngest island in the Lesser Antilles, and in fact it is still being formed by geothermal-volcanic activity, as evidenced by the world's second-largest hot spring, called Boiling Lake.
The island has lush mountainous rainforests, and it is the home of many rare plants, animals, and bird species.

Untouched Caribbean Island. Can't Believe This Exists 😲 Explore Dominica in the Caribbean 🇩🇲
In this video we spend a few days exploring the untouched and not overly well known Caribbean island of Dominica! Dominica is known as the nature island, with lots of waterfalls and rivers (365, one for every day of the year!).
We start things off with a quick tour of our hotel, where we are staying in the penthouse. This hotel is an adventure hotel and a great place to stay if you’re looking to plan lots of fun adventures around the island during your stay. You can find more about it here:
After setting off from the hotel to explore the island, and getting over a bit of motion sickness (the roads are very windy and even those that aren’t use to motion sickness can be affected, some prepared), we stop at the Emerald Pool. It’s about a 10 minute easy hike to get there and once you arrive you’ll encounter a lovely waterfall where you can also swim. This is definitely the place where we encountered more tourists than anywhere else!
Next up we had the most beautiful canoe ride through Indian River (a scene from Pirate’s of the Caribbean was filmed here), where we encountered loads of different types of birds, crabs and wildlife. Unfortunately it got dark very quickly and we had to stop filming.
We picked things up the next day at Morne Bruce where we had a great view overlooking the main city in Dominica, Roseau. We also make a stop at the botanical gardens to see a bus that was flattened by a tree many years ago in a hurricane and is now referred to as David and Goliath. We then spend a little bit of time exploring Roseau.
Later we make our way to a lake high up in the mountains, called Freshwater Lake where we fly the drone to get a better view.
Lastly we head to Trafalgar water falls to view the two side by side waterfalls affectionally known and mama and papa.

10 Awesome Things To Do in the Dominican Republic
Get more Tips here!
The Dominican Republic can be a gorgeous getaway for travelers of every stripe. Of course, as with any foreign travel, it’s important to do your homework before you get on the plane. Here’s how to make the most of it.
1. Check Out Historical Santo Domingo
You should think about taking a day to explore Santo Domingo, the oldest city in the Americas. Several day-long tours will take you to all the most exciting sites in this historical city. There’s plenty to experience in Santo Domingo.
2. Don’t Drink the Water
Play it safe. The drinking water in the Dominican Republic is mostly unclean, so you should avoid drinking any water that doesn’t come directly from a sealed bottle. Stay hydrated, but spring for the bottled stuff.
3. Take it Easy on the Coconut
If you want to avoid hugging the toilet for one of your days, you might want to take it easy on the coconut-themed drinks. While delicious, coconuts also act as a laxative. Exercise a little bit of caution.
4. Visit Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park & Reserve
Several hotels in the area offer free access to the reserve, which means you can enjoy some of the most pristine natural offerings the Dominican Republic has to offer.
5. Stroll Through the National Botanical Garden
It’s easy to lose yourself among this gorgeously curated selection of greenery that’s filled with carefully chosen plants and birds. Learn about the botany of the Dominican Republic, even as you enjoy the aesthetic beauty that abounds.
6. Visit the Alcazar de Colon at Night
This imposing Spanish castle was built by the son of Christopher Columbus in 1510. It’s especially breathtaking at night. And thanks to the abundance of se-curity personnel around the palace, you don’t need to be concerned about safety when the sun goes down.
7. Take a Dip at Hoyo Azul
This Punta Cana destination will surprise you at every turn. Hoyo Azul is a la-goon plopped at the bottom of a 65-meter-high cliff. Swimming is open to visi-tors, so be sure to spend a little time dipping your toe in Hoyo Azul’s turquois water.
8. Take a Tour With Hispaniola Aquatic Adventures
Whether you check out a sunset or you merely hit the water for a maritime ex-cursion, this company is renowned for its service from tourists of all shapes and sizes. Whether you take a larger 20-person trip or you opt for something semi-private, you won’t be disappointed.
9. Think Twice About Water Sports
The Dominican Republic doesn’t have the same exacting standards of safety as the United States. So travel insurance is never a wrong decision. You can still find some great options in the DR to get your watersports fix, just make sure to double check before you sign up.
10. Go to the Hard Rock Casino
You can get a respite from the sun at the Hard Rock Casino in Punta Cana. The 45,000-square-foot casino is a little slice of Vegas smack dab in the middle of paradise. The staff is friendly, the tables are immaculate, and there’s plenty of fun to be had. There’s no Hard Rock Cafe, though …

Dominica, not to be confused with the Dominican Republic, is a beautiful Caribbean island famed for its pristine natural beauty. Protected by an extensive park system, this island is the perfect destination for anyone looking to appreciate Earth's beauty. The island is one of the safest in the Caribbean region and is perfect for older tourists or anyone else who is looking to bypass the usual Spring Break crowd.
5 Facts You Might Not Know
Due to their fierce resistance against colonization, a large population of indigenous Carib Indians still lives on Dominica. Over 3,000 Caribs call the island their home, the largest pre-Colombian population in the Caribbean. Although the Caribs are well-integrated with the rest of the island, visitors can still view traditional housing and purchase hand-made crafts, including Carib baskets.
The Morne Trois Pitons National Park is a World Heritage Site filled with hiking, mountains, and lakes. Although the terrain is arduous and not recommended for beginners, anyone who can manage the hike will be rewarded by the breathtaking view when they reach the top of the dormant volcanoes that make up the mountain range.
Government policies make traveling to Dominica easy. Automatic visas are granted for any travelers from the European Union, Canada, or the United States. Tourists can enter by plane, boat, or cruise ship. English is the official language and almost all islanders speak it fluently.
Dominica is considered very safe by the U.S. State Department. Petty crimes occasionally happen in busy tourist areas, but serious crime is unknown on the island. Additionally, no poisonous snakes or insects live on Dominica, and the tap water is safe to drink.
Whales and dolphins from many species can be frequently found around Dominica's shoreline. A pod of sperm whales lives near the coast, and local guides know how to find them, ensuring that a whale-watching cruise will be fruitful. Scuba diving and fishing are also available year-round.
