Cayman Islands - Best things to do! Catamaran, Snorkeling..

Grand Cayman is one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean with the crystal clear waters, white sand beaches, snorkeling off a catamaran, and beautiful weather. Our short time in Grand Cayman was filled with activities, swimming with sting rays, riding horses in the ocean, and walking the white sand on seven mile beach. The cayman islands are perfect for honeymooners, families, and adventurers as there's something for everyone. During our time there, we stayed at the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman. This is one of, if not the best hotel on the island.

Cayman Islands Department of Tourism - Unravel Travel TV

Nestled in the calm, turquoise waters of the western Caribbean, lies the peaceful British Overseas Territory known as the Cayman Islands. Consisting of three islands just 480 miles south of Miami, Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman remain our little piece of paradise.

Government
The Cayman Islands highest official is the Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE, who is the appointed representative of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. He presides over Cabinet, the ruling body of the country. Mr. Taylor succeeded Mr. Stuart Jack, CVO. The Governor's term is four years. The existing constitution of the Cayman Islands, introduced on August 22, 1972, provides for the government of the Cayman Islands as a British Overseas Territory. It established a governing body called the Cabinet, which consists of three officials and five elected members, the latter being selected from the 15 elected representatives of the Legislative Assembly. To see the 15 elected representatives or to get more information visit the Cayman Islands Government website.

Currency
The Cayman Islands has its own currency, first issued in 1972, whose basic unit is the dollar, issued in notes with denominations of CI$100, 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1 and coins valued at 25 cents, 10, 5 and 1 cent. The CI dollar has a fixed exchange rate with the US dollar of CI$1.00 equals US$1.25. Or, the US dollar equals CI $.80. There is no need for visitors to exchange their US dollars into local currency. The US dollar is accepted throughout the islands at a rate of CI 80 cents. However, this can be confusing to visitors: for example, a US$20 note becomes CI$16. Banks do NOT give a better rate of exchange! Major credit cards (with the exception of the Discover Card) and traveller's checks are widely accepted. Canadian dollars, Euro dollars and pounds sterling can be exchanged for CI dollars at local banks. In addition, Automatic Teller Machines accepting VISA and MasterCard with Cirrus affiliation are located at Cayman National Bank and other banks and at Owen Roberts International Airport as well as a few other locations such as the grocery stores.

Geography
The total land mass of the three islands is 100 square miles. Grand Cayman occupies 76 square miles; Cayman Brac, 14 square miles and Little Cayman, 10 square miles. Grand Cayman is approximately 22 miles long and 8 miles at its widest point, reaching a maximum elevation of 79.77 feet in North Side.

Cayman Brac is 14 miles long and 2 miles wide and has the most dramatic topography of the trio. Its majestic Bluff rises west to east along the length of the island to 151.75 above Spot Bay. Many mysterious caves are carved throughout this awe-inspiring natural attraction.

Little Cayman, only 10 miles long and a mile wide, is flat, reaching a maximum elevation of 55.75 ft. Its famous Bloody Bay wall Marine Park has been called one of the world's best dive sites. Inland, the 203 - acre Booby Pond Nature Reserve is a RAMSAR site and nesting ground for the Caribbean's largest population of Red Footed Boobies.

Best Place to Stay Grand Cayman

Cruise Ship & Island Travel Gear & Advice -

The Cayman Islands are a fantastic place to vacation! I've been to Grand Cayman several times and wanted to share my Cayman travel advice with everyone. There are two excellent places to stay on Grand Cayman. Seven Mile Beach is likely the most well-known and popular area. There are plenty of hotels and vacation rentals on Seven Mile Beach. The Westin and Ritz-Carlton are the two top resorts on Seven Mile Beach. There are plenty of bars and restaurants right on Seven Mile Beach. For a little more privacy and adventure, I recommend staying on the northern side of the island near Rum Point. Rum Point is a fantastic beach and is less touristy than Seven Mile Beach. Rum Point comes with a trade-off though, as the big grocery stores, shopping, etc. are close to Georgetown which is about a 45 minutes drive from Rum Point. The drive is definitely not a problem though. Please share this video with others. Filmed with Canon XA10 camera. Contains royalty-free music from .

Scuba diving is a form of underwater diving in which a diver uses a self contained underwater breathing apparatus (scuba) to breathe underwater.

Unlike other modes of diving, which rely either on breath-hold or on air pumped from the surface, scuba divers carry their own source of breathing gas, (usually compressed air), allowing them greater freedom of movement than with an air line or diver's umbilical and longer underwater endurance than breath-hold. Scuba equipment may be open circuit, in which exhaled gas is expelled to the surroundings, or a closed or semi-closed circuit rebreather, in which the breathing gas is scrubbed to remove carbon dioxide, and the oxygen used is replenished from a supply of feed gas before being re-breathed.

A scuba diver usually moves around underwater by using fins attached to the feet, but external propulsion can be provided by a diver propulsion vehicle, or a sled pulled from the surface.

The closed-circuit rebreathers were first developed for military use, due to their stealth advantages. The first commercially successful closed-circuit scuba was designed and built by English diving engineer, Henry Fleuss in 1878, while working for Siebe Gorman in London. His self contained breathing apparatus consisted of a rubber mask connected to a breathing bag, with (estimated) 50-60% O2 supplied from a copper tank and CO2 scrubbed by rope yarn soaked in a solution of caustic potash; the system giving a duration of about three hours.

Sir Robert Davis, head of Siebe Gorman, perfected the oxygen rebreather in 1910 with his invention of the Davis Submerged Escape Apparatus, the first practical rebreather to be made in quantity.

Rebreathers have been increasingly used by civilians for recreation, especially since the end of Cold War. This reduced the perceived risk of attack by Communist Bloc forces, including by their combat divers. After that, the world's armed forces had less reason to requisition civilian rebreather patents, and automatic and semi-automatic recreational diving rebreathers started to appear.

The first commercially successful scuba sets were the Aqualung twin hose open-circuit units developed by Emile Gagnan and Jacques-Yves Cousteau, in which compressed air carried in back mounted cylinders is inhaled through a demand regulator and then exhaled into the water adjacent to the tank.

The single hose two stage scuba regulators trace their origins to Australia, where Ted Eldred developed the first example of this type of regulator, known as Porpoise scuba gear. This was developed, because patents protected the Aqualung's twin hose design. The single hose regulator separates the cylinder from the demand valve, giving the diver air at the pressure at their mouth, not that at the top of the cylinder.

By the early twentieth century, two basic templates for scuba, (self-contained underwater breathing apparatus), had emerged; open-circuit scuba where the diver's exhaust is vented directly into the water, and closed-circuit scuba where the diver's unused oxygen is filtered from the carbon dioxide and recirculated.

What To See In Grand Cayman.Places To Visit In Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman Tourist Attractions.Things To See In Grand Cayman.Places To See In Grand Cayman

Top Caribbean Excursions, Must Do!

The Best Things To Do in Ocho Rios - Jamaica, George Town - Grand Cayman, and Cozumel - Mexico (Tulum). Each destination is an amazing tropical paradise located in the Caribbean Sea.

First you will see the ancient Mayan Ruins of Tulum. Many cruise ships stop in Cozumel, Mexico and offer this as their top excursion.
Tulum is not actually located in Cozumel. During the excursion you take a ferry over to the mainland of Mexico and take a bus to Tulum. It is also just a short distance from Cancún and Playa del Carmen.

Tulum is one of the best-preserved Maya sites. The city was built on top of a cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea. There is a staircase down the cliffs were visitors can enjoy one of the best beaches in the world. There are amazing views everywhere you walk.

Next you will see Bamboo Beach in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. The beach is located inside a cove with small cliffs on both sides of you. The sand is perfect and the water is amazing. It is hard to imagine a beach better than this.

Third is Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. If you visit Ocho Rios, this is the number one thing you should do! Climbing the falls is amazing. It is hard to believe that it is a natural formation. The falls are terraced like a giant natural staircase. There are several plunge pools along your journey up the falls. This is a Must Do!

Last, but not least, is 7 Mile Beach located in George Town, Grand Cayman. Many newspapers and travel sites list this beach in the top 5 of all beaches in the world, with several naming it the number one beach in the world. The sand is absolutely perfect and the water is crystal clear. Once you get there, you won't want to leave.

If you take a Western Caribbean Cruise, Make sure you do each one of these excursions. These are some of the best things to do in the Caribbean, if not the World!
