Banan District belongs to the main urban area of Chongqing and the Chongqing metropolitan area. It is located in the southwest of Chongqing. It was formerly known as Mingyiba County, where the Ba people established their capital during the Shang Dynasty. In December 1994, the county was withdrawn and the district was established.
As of July 2020, Banan District has jurisdiction over 14 towns and 9 streets. 198 administrative villages, 1860 villager groups; 102 urban communities, 1726 resident groups.
As of the end of 2017, it covers an area of 1834.23 square kilometers; according to the seventh census data, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, Banan District has a permanent population of 11.788.5 million.
In 2020, Banan District will achieve a GDP of 86.55 billion yuan, an increase of 3.5% at comparable prices.
Banan District is rich in tourism resources, mainly including Yudong Wupi cherry, Wubu pomelo and other geographical indication products, as well as scenic spots such as South Hot Spring, East Hot Spring, and Shengdeng Mountain National Forest. On February 2, 2019, it was rated as a county-level national advanced unit of traditional Chinese medicine work by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. On October 20, 2020, selected into the list of national dual-support model cities (counties)

Chongqing Rail Transit Line 2 is the first urban rail transit line in western China and the first straddle monorail line in China. It is identified as forest green; it is famous all over the country for its trains passing through buildings at Liziba Station. The section from Daping to the zoo started sightseeing operation on November 6, 2004; the section from Jiaochangkou to the zoo started sightseeing operation on December 11, 2004, and opened for trial operation on June 18, 2005; the section from the zoo to Xinshan Village started in 2006 Trial operation opened on July 1, 2014; Xinshancun to Yudong section opened trial operation on December 30, 2014.
Chongqing Rail Transit Line 2 is roughly in an inverted L-shape, starting from Jiaochangkou Station in the east, passing through Yuzhong District, Jiulongpo District, Dadukou District, Banan District, and ending at Yudong Station in the south.
As of December 2020, Chongqing Rail Transit Line 2 has an operating mileage of 31.36 kilometers and a total of 25 stations, including 22 elevated stations and 3 underground stations; it uses 4/6-segment straddle monorails.
Chongqing Rail Transit Line 2 uses straddle monorail trains. The first batch of trains was designed and produced by Japan's Hitachi Company Kasado Vehicle Factory. Each section can carry 150 passengers, each can be grouped into 4 to 8 sections, and can carry up to 1,200 people each time, and the departure time can be as short as every 2.5 minutes One time, and the noise is only about 50 decibels. Due to the passenger flow, the train was later changed to the production of China CNR Group, with a six-car marshalling one draw, and it was officially launched on November 19, 2012.
Train Chuanlou Liziba Station
Liziba Station is the first straddle monorail elevated station co-existing with commercial and residential buildings in China. It was completed in March 2004 and covers an area of 3,100 square meters and a building area of 6,000 square meters. The station is located on the 6th-7th floors of the commercial and residential building, No. 39, Liziba Zhengjie, by the Jialing River. It has become a well-known “net celebrity station” at home and abroad because of its “sky train passing through the building”.
The station and the commercial and residential buildings are designed, constructed, and put into use simultaneously. The structure of station and bridge separation is adopted. The railway station bridge and the structural support system of the commercial and residential buildings are installed separately, which effectively solves the problems of structural force transmission and vibration between the two.
