Cycling by Harathi Holland. Video tour by bicyle from Den Haag Ypenburg to Leidschendam. Ypenburg is a neighborhood in The Hague (Den Haag), developed on the location of Ypenburg Airport . After closing the airport in 1992, a new residential neighborhood was developed at this location for 30,000 residents. From 2002, together with the adjacent districts of Hoornwijk, Forepark and Leidschenveen, Ypenburg forms Leidschenveen-Ypenburg, the eighth district of The Hague.
On May 10, 1940, Ypenburg Airport and the surrounding area were the scene of heavy fighting. German airborne troops captured the military airfield as part of the plan to overpower the city by surprise. The rapid recapture of the airport was one of the few Dutch successes during the May days of 1940.

The Hague (Den Haag or 's-Gravenhage) is a city in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands. It is the seat of the Dutch parliament and government, and the residence of King Willem-Alexander, but it is not the capital city, which is Amsterdam. The Hague lies on the North Sea and is home to Scheveningen, the most popular seaside resort of the Netherlands, as well as the smaller resort of Kijkduin.
Internationally, The Hague is often known as the judicial capital of the world due to the many international courts that are located in the city. Among these are the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and, since 2004, the International Criminal Court. Beside these institutions, The Hague is home to more than 150 international organizations, as well as many EU institutions, multinational companies and embassies. This gave the city a distinct international character — one that is noticeably different from Amsterdam. Rather than having the many foreign tourists and fortune-seekers attracted by Amsterdam's reputation for excitement and liberalism, The Hague generally has more expatriates working and living in the city because of the number of international institutions and companies. Because of this, The Hague has a reputation as a wealthy, conservative and somewhat sedate city.
The Hague is divided into eight official districts which are, in turn, divided into neighbourhoods. Some of the most prosperous and some of the poorest neighbourhoods of the Netherlands can be found in The Hague. The wealthier areas like Statenkwartier, Belgisch Park, Marlot, Benoordenhout and Archipelbuurt are generally located in the northwestern part of the city, closer to the sea, whereas the southeastern neighbourhoods like Transvaal, Moerwijk, and the Schilderswijk are significantly poorer, with the exception of the Vinex-locations of Leidschenveen-Ypenburg and Wateringse Veld.
The Statenkwartier area, located between the dunes and the centre, has leafy avenues and 19th century housing and is very popular with The Hague's large expatriate community. All kinds of neo- and modern-styles are represented here, especially Art Nouveau architecture. Good shops, delicatessens and restaurants are to be found on Statenkwartier's main street, Frederik Hendriklaan, or 'Fred'. The area also has a number of tourist attractions, which make it worth a visit, most of them being clustered around the Gemeentemuseum on Stadhouderslaan.
The Hague originated around the 13th-century Binnenhof, and this is still considered the cultural centre of the city. Night life centres around the three main squares in the city centre. The Plein (literally Square) is taken by several large sidewalk cafés where often politicians may be spotted. The Grote Markt (literally Great Market) is completely strewn with chairs and tables, summer or winter. The Buitenhof (literally Outer Court, located just outside the Binnenhof) contains a six screen Pathé cinema and a handful of bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. Adjacent to the Buitenhof is De Passage, the country's first covered shopping mall. Dating from the late 19th century, it contains many expensive and speciality shops. One of the country's largest music venues, Paard van Troje, can be found in the centre of The Hague. Another popular music venue in The Hague is Muziekcafé de Paap.
The Spuiplein is a modern fourth square in the city centre, opposite the Nieuwe Kerk. Besides the City Hall, this was also the location of the Dr. Anton Philipszaal, home to the Residentie Orchestra, and the Lucent Danstheater, home to the internationally celebrated modern dance company Nederlands Dans Theater. These buildings, designed by Rem Koolhaas in 1988, have been demolished to make space for a new theatre, the Spuiforum, which would house both institutes as well as the Royal Conservatory. Despite efforts of the municipality, public support for the proposed theatre remains low. At the heart of the city centre across the palace gardens is the home of Summerschool Den Haag, international school for dance with guest teachers such as Valentina Scaglia, Igone de Jongh, and Maia Makhateli. The Koninklijke Schouwburg, home to the Nationaal Toneel, can also be found in the city centre – on the Korte Voorhout.

I was so excited to shop here because we don't have this huge asian supermarket in Germany. I wanted to see what Philippine Products do they have.

In the video I explore by bicyle the city center of The Hague (Den Haag) around the so-called Binnenhof. By choosing subtitles you can read an explanation in English about the streets and buildings shown in this video. The Binnenhof (in English: Inner Court) is a complex of buildings in the city centre of The Hague, Netherlands, next to the Hofvijver. It houses the meeting place of both houses of the Dutch parliament , as well as the Ministry of General Affairs and the office of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands. Built primarily in the 13th century, the Gothic castle originally functioned as residence of the counts of Holland and became the political centre of the Dutch Republic in 1584. It is counted among the Top 100 Dutch heritage sites. The Binnenhof is among the oldest Parliament buildings in the world still in use.
The village that originated around the Binnenhof was first mentioned as Die Haghe in a charter dating from 1242. It became the primary residence of the Counts of Holland in 1358, and thus became the seat of many government institutions. This status allowed the village to grow; by the Late Middle Ages, it had grown to the size of a city, although it did not receive city rights.

Delft is a city and municipality in the province of South Holland, Netherlands. It is located between Rotterdam, to the southeast, and The Hague, to the northwest. Together with them, it is part of both the Rotterdam–The Hague metropolitan area and the Randstad.
Delft is a popular tourist destination in the Netherlands, famous for its historical connections with the reigning House of Orange-Nassau, for its blue pottery, for being home to the painter Jan Vermeer, and for hosting Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). Historically, Delft played a highly influential role in the Dutch Golden Age.
In terms of science and technology, thanks to the pioneering contributions of Antonie van Leeuwenhoek and Martinus Beijerinck, Delft can be considered to be the birthplace of microbiology.
The city centre retains a large number of monumental buildings, while in many streets there are canals of which the banks are connected by typical bridges, altogether making this city a notable tourist destination.
Historical buildings and other sights of interest include:
Oude Kerk (Old Church), constructed between 1246 and 1350. Buried here: Piet Hein, Johannes Vermeer, Antonie van Leeuwenhoek.
Nieuwe Kerk (New Church), constructed between 1381 and 1496. It contains the Dutch royal family's burial vault which, between funerals, is sealed with a 5,000 kg (11,020 lb) cover stone.
A statue of Hugo Grotius created by Franciscus Leonardus Stracké [nl] in 1886, located on the Markt near the Nieuwe Kerk.
The Prinsenhof (Princes' Court), now a museum.
City Hall on the Markt.
The Oostpoort (Eastern gate), built around 1400. This is the only remaining gate of the old city walls.
The Gemeenlandshuis Delfland, or Huyterhuis, built in 1505, which has housed the Delfland regional water authority since 1645.

Windmill De Roos, a tower mill built c.1760. Restored to working order in 2013.[14] Another windmill that formerly stood in Delft, Het Fortuyn, was dismantled in 1917 and re-erected at the Netherlands Open Air Museum, Arnhem, Gelderland in 1920.
People have been talking about the tower of the Old Church for centuries. 'Why is it so crooked?', 'Could it topple over?'. To answer those questions, we need to go back to 1325?
Diversion
The Old Church has always stood directly on the ‘Delf', the old word for ‘canal', which is what gave Delft its name. But that meant that when plans were made to build a tower on the church in 1325, there was nowhere to put it. It is probable that the canal was diverted and filled in. The canal is now known as the Oude Delft, but the diversion can still be seen on maps.
Crooked
And so the tower ended up partly built on top of a former canal. This turned out not to be a sound foundation for the heavy stones of the tower, which started to subside even as it was being built. Luckily, the builders managed to stabilise it for the time being, and then carried on building straight up. That is why there is a kink in the tower, clearly visible from a distance.
Public outcry
The crooked tower - often referred to as ‘Scheve Jan' or ‘Crooked John' - has now been fully stabilised. But for a long time, people in Delft lived in fear of its collapse. In 1843, the city council even wanted to knock it down. Following a public outcry, that plan luckily came to nothing. And so the tower of the Old Church still stands today: 75 metres high, and almost two metres off centre...
Delft City Hall on the Markt was designed by municipal architect Hendrick de Keyser (1565 -1621) in the 17th century after the old, medieval building burnt down in 1618. De Keyser was considered one of the best architects of his time. He left two architectural landmarks in Delft: the grave monument of Prince William of Orange at the Nieuwe Kerk and City Hall on the Markt. Even today Delft City Hall, which faces the Nieuwe Kerk, is one of the city’s most distinctive monuments.

It is the only Dutch city where it is possible to stroll along the beach within 10 minutes of the city centre. The Hague is reputable for its antique galleries, fresh seafood dishes and its picturesque green open spaces.

Exploring #21 ???? THE HAGUE CITY centre (part 3)
Cycling by Harathi Holland. This video starts with an overview of the Plein, a large place in the city center. Here one can find a lot of pubs and enjoy the sun on a terrace. Next we cycle around the Hofvijver, via Korte and Lange Vijverberg and the Vijverdam. We pass an old gate of the catle, used as a prison and now a museum (Gevangenpoort). After crossing the busy crossroads Spui / Grote Marktstraat / Kalvermarkt in the shopping centre we enter the Turfmarkt, a part of the new city centre with a lot of high rises. This video ends near the Central Station, the major transport hub of The Hague, offering rail connections to Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Utrecht.
