FAQs
========================================
Q: How long did it take?
A: My trip was 14 days.

Q: Which airport should I arrive at?
A: Having travelled from the other side of the globe, I arrived at Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei. If travelling from Australia or Asia, there may be connecting flights to Kaohsiung International Airport on the south-west coast of Taiwan.

Q: How much did it cost?
A: You can see a cost breakdown of my trip at 12:37

Q: How did you pay for things or get local currency?
A: I just take money out from an ATM using my debit card. It has a small international transaction fee, but it’s minuscule if you only do it once or twice. You may be able to order foreign currency at better rates, but it’s not something I personally bothered with.

Q: Is it easy to find petrol stations?
A: Yes, you'll find one pretty much everywhere, including remote areas in the mountains! I always went with caution and ensured I had a full tank before entering remote areas, however to my shock, there were petrol stations, and even 7 Eleven stores in remote mountains! Just to be safe, I would highly recommend getting a full tank of petrol before going to the mountains.

Q: Which month did you go?
A: I visited mid November to early December and spent 14 days there.

Top 10 places to Visit when in Taiwan

If you're looking for a new adventure, look no further than Taiwan! This vibrant island is filled with amazing sights and sounds that will captivate you when you arrive. From bustling cities to laidback beaches, to the Taipei 101 skyscraper, the Sun Moon Lake, Taroko Gorge National Park, Kenting National Park, and much more, there's something for everyone to enjoy in Taiwan. That's why we've compiled the top ten places to visit when in Taiwan. But before we begin, make sure you like this video and hit the subscribe icon. Let's go.
Taipei 101: Taipei 101 is one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world! Ascending 101 floors, this impressive engineering feat provides incredible views of Taipei from above and below, so don't forget your camera! At the top, you can take an elevator ride to the 89th floor and visit an observatory deck where you can learn about the history of the building. There is also a shopping mall located on levels 2-5, where you'll find various stores and restaurants. You won't be disappointed with all there is to see and explore!
Sun Moon Lake: Sun Moon Lake is one of the most beautiful places ever. This location is nothing less than a tourist's dream, with mountains all around and lakes that glisten with clarity. Sun Moon Lake's distinctive geography, created by an old landslide, provides tourists with a fascinating scene. Visitors can take boat excursions on the lake and tour the several buildings and beautiful spots nearby, including Wen Wu Temple, Ci En Pagoda, and Lalu Island.
Taroko Gorge National Park: The Taroko Gorge National Park is well-known for its stunning mountains, rocks, and ravines and the abundance of locally-specific plants and wildlife. Your breath will be taken away by Taroko Gorge's magnificent beauty.
Kenting National Park: At Taiwan's southernmost point, this stunning park welcomes visitors with hiking paths, beaches, and coral reefs, among other amenities. Those seeking a rush of adrenaline will love the variety of things Kenting National Park offers. The clean waters of Kenting National Park are ideal for participating in a variety of water activities, including windsurfing, kitesurfing, scuba diving, and swimming.
Jiufen Old Street & Shifen Waterfall: Taiwan is rich in both culture and history. Jiufen Old Street and Shifen Waterfall are two top attractions you shouldn't skip. Northeastern Taiwan's Jiufen Old Street is a fascinating maze of winding streets and passageways. Delicious food, fascinating souvenirs, and charming teahouses flourish in this area. Try one of their renowned tiny restaurants; you won't be sorry. Shifen Waterfall is a must-see for all tourists and one of Taiwan's most famous natural beauties. As you approach the waterfall for an incredible experience, you can hear the waterfall's tremendous roar from a distance.
Yehliu Geopark: You can stroll along the trails and see the various sizes and shapes of rocks in this park. A rock that resembles a person's head with a crown on top is one of the magnificent formations you can see at Yehliu Geopark. An oddly shaped rock formation called the Ice Cream Rock Formation is shaped like an ice cream cone.
Kaohsiung Lantern Festival: You may enjoy a lavish display of vibrant lanterns, breathtaking firework displays, and spellbinding performances at the Kaohsiung Lantern Festival. The Kaohsiung Lantern Festival is not only a breathtaking sight to see, but it is also rich with vivid culture. The event is a must-see because of the enormous size of the lanterns, which always have unique designs based on traditional themes.
Alishan National Scenic Area: This natural paradise is packed with unique attractions, including incredible mountains, dense forests, and winding rivers. A visit to the Alishan National Scenic Area features a few must-see spots like Chukou Street, Chiayi Round House, Sun Moon Lake, Fencihu Old Street, and more.
Beitou Hot Springs: These hot spring spas are a great place to relax, socialize, and take in a piece of local culture. The water is rich in minerals such as sulfur, calcium, sodium, and magnesium, so it's fun to soak in and beneficial for your skin.
Kinmen Islands: The Kinmen Islands lie just off the coast of mainland China and can be reached by ferry from Xiamen in the Fujian Province. The islands are a haven packed with historical sites, like traditional houses built during the Qing Dynasty and abandoned military bunkers used to defend against invasion during the Chinese Civil War.
Whether you're looking for a bit of history, culture, nature, or modern entertainment, Taiwan is an island paradise that promises to give you some of the best memories that will last forever. Traditional Taiwan Street Food Tour in Yilan | Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, Scallion Pancakes, Douhua

Today we are traveling to Yilan, Taiwan (宜蘭,台灣) to find the best Taiwanese street food (台灣美食/台灣小食) out there! We have visited Shenkeng Old Street (深坑老街) to feast on Taiwanese Sausage (台灣香腸/黑豬肉香腸), Tofu Ice cream (豆腐冰淇淋), Chicken butt (雞屁股) & Stinky Tofu (臭豆腐). Besides, while we are at Yilan, we have also take the opportunity to taste their famous roasted chicken (甕窯雞/甕仔雞), spring onions/scallions dishes (蔥油餅/宜蘭青蔥).

We have also stayed in one of the best hotspring hotels in Yilan, Wellspring by Silks. The hotel looks majestic and the best part is the private hotspring/onsen experience you can have in the comfort of your own hotel room. Not to forget the amazing hotpot dinner experience, it has Wagyu beef, mussels, lobster, scallops and Haagen Dazs ice cream.

We have also went around finding local Taiwanese street food in the town of JiaoXi (礁溪) We feast on beef noodle soup (台灣牛肉麵), scallion pancakes (蔥油餅) and douhua/soybean pudding/tofu pudding (豆花). Shoutout to @AllTimeClassicsRecipes for joining me in this wonderful Taiwan food trip.

Things To Do In Yilan County Taiwan

I’ve been planning (or let’s say tempted) to visit Taiwan several times last year, ever since they have lifted visas for Filipinos entering the country. I came close to booking a flight during one of the local airline’s seats sale but unfortunately, things didn’t really work out as planned (dreamed). Good thing, before 2018 came to a close, I got a chance to visit Taiwan, though not the capital, I still got to explore the country’s northeastern town, Yilan County.

Yilan is situated in Taiwan’s Northeastern coastline. Our local guide mentioned that Yilan is regarded as Taiwan’s backyard or backyard garden because it is surrounded by ocean and mountains, making it a nature-destination trip especially if you are coming from a busy city like Taipei.

Join me in this vlog as I tag you along in some of the best spots to see when visiting Yilan.

Here are the places we visited:
3:17 Agrioz Candied Fruit Factory & Museum
5:20 Hill-Top Yilan
7:06 Dongmen Night Market
8:08 The Jimmy Square
8:39 Taiwan Theater Museum
11:40 Er-Wang Community
12:42 Yilan County Government Office
13:14 Yilan County Historical Museum
13:44 Yilan Distillery
16:00 Yilan Literary Museum
16:57 Memorial Hall of Founding of Yilan Administration
17:39 Quingshui Geothermal Park
20:53 Wai'ao Beach

Also, you can read all about these places in my blog:
