I'm taking you on a journey to Kaliningrad. Kaliningrad is a Russian exclave located on the Baltic Sea, sandwiched between Poland and Lithuania. It serves as a strategic outpost for Russia in Europe. Formerly part of East Prussia and known as Königsberg, it was annexed by the Soviet Union after World War II. Today, it remains a unique geopolitical entity, distinct from the Russian mainland. It provides Russia with access to the Baltic Sea and a presence in the European Union, which can influence regional dynamics and politics in the Baltic region.
In this video, I visit a number of settlements in Kaliningrad region with traces of German past. It could happen that some members of YOUR family lived in East Prussia before or soon after the annexation of Konigsberg. Write about this in the comments, it's fascinating to read such stories!

Kaliningrad until 1946 known as Königsberg, is the largest city and the administrative centre of Kaliningrad Oblast, the westernmost oblast of Russia. The city is situated on the Pregolya River, at the head of the Vistula Lagoon on the Baltic Sea, with a population of 489,359 residents, up to 800,000 residents in the urban agglomeration. Kaliningrad is the second-largest city in the Northwestern Federal District, after Saint Petersburg, the third-largest city in the Baltic region, and the seventh-largest city on the Baltic Sea.
The settlement of modern-day Kaliningrad was founded in 1255 on the site of the ancient Old Prussian settlement Twangste by the Teutonic Knights during the Northern Crusades, and was named Königsberg in honor of King Ottokar II of Bohemia. A Baltic port city, it successively became the capital of the State of the Teutonic Order, the Duchy of Prussia (1525–1701) and East Prussia. Königsberg remained the coronation city of the Prussian monarchy, though the capital was moved to Berlin in 1701. From 1454 to 1455 the city under the name of Królewiec belonged to the Kingdom of Poland, and from 1466 to 1657 it was a Polish fief. Königsberg was the easternmost large city in Germany until World War II. The city was heavily damaged by Allied bombing in 1944 and during the Battle of Königsberg in 1945; it was then captured by the Soviet Union on 9 April 1945. The Potsdam Agreement of 1945 placed it under Soviet administration. The city was renamed to Kaliningrad in 1946 in honor of Soviet revolutionary Mikhail Kalinin. Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, it is governed as the administrative centre of Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast, an exclave sandwiched between Lithuania and Poland.
As a major transport hub, with sea and river ports, the city is home to the headquarters of the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy, and is one of the largest industrial centres in Russia. It was recognized as the best city in Russia in 2012, 2013 and 2014 according to Kommersant's magazine The Firm's Secret, the best city in Russia for business in 2013 according to Forbes, and was ranked fifth in the Urban Environment Quality Index published by Minstroy in 2019. Kaliningrad has been a major internal migration attraction in Russia over the past two decades, and was one of the host cities of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

In mid-January, Peter finally fell asleep with snow, and we were able to show the most beautiful Northern city in the world, wrapped in snow, from the air, in ultra-high resolution 6K. For filming, we used a new Ambassador camera Zenmuse X7 together with a new line of lenses DL, which a month ago we sent DJI for our further creativity. Since youtube does not support 6K resolution, we have increased the image to 8K, in order to unlock the full potential of the image.

Russia Travel: Kaliningrad (August 2019)
There is a small enclave of Russia, bordered by Lithuania, Poland - which contains the Kaliningrad Oblast. Once was part of Prussia and then Germany, after World War 2 it became part of the Soviet Union and became a Russian city. The Germans called the city Königsberg and it was almost razed to the ground by Allied bombing during the Second World War. Today, it is not only what has been preserved, but also that which has been entirely destroyed, that reminds us of the war and the layering of the city’s post-war landscape. The clearest example of this is the intractable debate among architects and the public around the fate of two of the city’s most famous landmarks — the House of Soviets and the Königsberg Castle — and whether, to demolish the former and rebuild the latter. Despite the big mix of soviet and leftovers of Prussian/German architecture, the city has a unique feeling with very open and hospitable people. The city is definitely worth visiting and exploring for a long weekend.

Cómo y dónde encontrar ámbar natural en estado salvaje?
La producción se encuentra a unos 45 kilómetros de Kaliningrado, en una ciudad llamada Yantarny, anteriormente Palmniken, aunque se pueden encontrar artesanos
en toda la región y más allá, por ejemplo, en la vecina Lituania.
Aquí se encuentra la única cantera de ámbar del mundo. Los lugareños están muy orgullosos de esto.
El ámbar auténtico suele tener burbujas, pequeñas grietas y restos vegetales o de insectos en su interior, así que la mejor forma de comprobar su autenticidad es identificar
estas imperfecciones que hacen tan especial al ámbar y comprobar que no coincidan.
Desde 1869 la mayoría del que se vende en la zona del Báltico se extrae de la mina Yantarny.
El ámbar, resina fosilizada, se formó en la zona del Báltico hace entre 40 y 60 millones de años.
Se comercializaba antes del nacimiento de Cristo, en mediados del siglo XIX el llamado “oro del Báltico” empezó a adquirir importancia.
En los años 1854-1855 y en 1860, se hallaron grandes cantidades de ámbar cerca de Juodkrantė, en el istmo de Curlandia, en Lituania.
Durante la “fiebre del ámbar” se encontraron tres cúmulos que juntos pesaban 2250 toneladas, pero en 1861 ya no quedaba ámbar.
Al contemplar la enorme mina de ámbar de Yantarny en Kaliningrado, extraña saber que los extranjeros no pudieran entrar en esta región hasta 1991.
Es la mayor mina de ámbar a cielo abierto del mundo. Aquí se respira un ambiente fronterizo al estilo del Lejano Oeste, donde los buscadores
de ámbar compiten por el mejor ‘oro del Báltico’.
