MATLOCK Derbyshire | Full walking tour of Matlock Town Centre in the Peak District, England.

Matlock Town is sits in the Derbyshire Peak District of the UK next to Matlock Bath and close to Sheffield, Chesterfield and Derby. This is a walking tour of Matlock Town Centre
Also watch our tour of nearby Matlock Bath ????

We took the cameras down into the Peak District National Park in the East Midlands and found Matlock Town Centre slap bang right in between Derby and Sheffield. So we thought it would be a good idea to do a full walking tour of Matlock to show you the streets, the buildings and what is happening here.

Matlock is the county town of Derbyshire England. The former spa town of Matlock Bath sits immediately south of the town and is well worth a visit in it's own right due to the tourist attractions there (and to see the sheer number of fish and chip shops!)

The Shane Meadows movie Dead Mans Shoes was filmed in and around Matlock Town Centre and the wider area in Matlock Dale.

Our Matlock Town walk starts on Dale Road overlooking the River Derwent and we pass underneath the railway bridge that takes the trains in and out of Matlock Train Station.

Walking up Dale Street we pass some noteable places and buildings such as Monk Bar, Riverside Antique Shop, Little Shabby Hen, the old Market Hall and the landmark Olde English Hotel building on the corner of Dale Road and Olde English Road.

Also on the route is W Evans and Son Jewellers Ltd which has been trading in the building with the old clock since 1851 right here in the Matlock Peak District.

Plenty of shops, antique shops and food shops and takeaways line Dale Road which is a busy road as you will see by the volume of traffic going through Matlock Town Centre.

As we reach the end of Dale Road we take a little look up the hill that runs up behind the railway station and then take a right onto Snitterton Road and onto the bridge that sits over the River Derwent.

Our route then takes us along Snitterton Road and round the roundabout onto Bakewell Road before coming round to see Bank Road which used to have a tramway system to take people up and down the road into the town centre!

We then head onto Causeway Lane from where we can see Halls Ley Park. We head along Causeway Lane until we reach the Cafe In The Park at which point we head into Halls Ley Park and down to the victorian Bandstand which is home to many concerts and events held in the park.

Then it's a quick look at the Matlock Flood markers and onto the bridge over to Olde English Car Park and Cool River Cafe and then up to the main high street here in Matlock Town Centre, Dale Road.

I hope you enjoy this walking tour of Matlock Derbyshire. If so why not subscribe now for more videos like this and virtual walks from around the world!

Places to see in ( Cromford - UK )

Places to see in ( Cromford - UK )

Cromford is a village and civil parish, two miles to the south of Matlock in the Derbyshire Dales district in Derbyshire, England. The population at the 2011 Census was 1,433. It is principally known for its historical connection with Richard Arkwright, and the nearby Cromford Mill which he built outside of the village in 1771. Cromford is in the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site.

The River Derwent, with its sources on Bleaklow in the Dark Peak, flows southward to Derby and then to the River Trent. The geology of this section in the Derbyshire Dales is that of limestone. The fast flowing river has cut a deep valley. The A6 trunk road, which was the main road between London and Manchester in former times; the Cromford Canal and the Derwent Valley Line, linking Derby and Matlock, were all built in the river valley. The Via Gellia dry valley joins the Derwent at Cromford.

The A6 passes to the north of the village of Cromford; its land rises from 80m to 150m above mean sea level. It is 27 km north of Derby, 3 km south of Matlock and 1 km south of Matlock Bath. Trains operate from Cromford Station, on the north bank of the Derwent to Derby and Nottingham.

The Cromford Mill (1771) buildings and accommodation for workers to staff the factories form part of the Derwent Valley Mills, which is recognised as a World Heritage Site for its importance. North Street, constructed by Arkwright is important as a very early purpose built industrial workers housing and was rescued from dereliction in the 1970s by the Ancient Monument Society who have since sold off the houses. One house in the street is now a Landmark Trust holiday cottage. Masson Mill (1783) is on the northern fringe of the village.

Willersley Castle dominates hill on the east side of the river, with commanding views of Masson Mill, the village, and the road from Derby. Commissioned by Richard Arkwright, building work began in 1790, but was delayed by a fire in 1791. Richard Arkwright died in 1792, and the building was occupied by his son Richard in 1796. The Arkwright family moved out in 1922, and the building was acquired by some Methodist businessmen, and opened to guests as a Methodist Guild hotel in 1928. During World War II, the building was used as a maternity hospital by the Salvation Army while evacuated from their hospital in the East End of London. St Mary's Church, Cromford built between 1792 and 1797 by Richard Arkwright.

The Cromford Canal – built to service the mills – is now in disuse, but has been designated a Site of Scientific Interest (SSSI). The canal tow path can be followed from Cromford Wharf to High Peak Junction, and on to Whatstandwell and Ambergate. The Cromford and High Peak Railway, completed in 1831, ran from High Peak Junction to the Peak Forest Canal at Whaley Bridge. Its track bed now forms the High Peak Trail, a walk and cycle route which is joined by the Tissington Trail at Parsley Hay.

( Cromford - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Cromford . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Cromford - UK

BELPER | A look around Belper, Derbyshire [Is Belper worth visiting?]

BELPER | A look around Belper, Derbyshire [town centre walking tour]
Is Belper worth visiting? Let's take a look and find out!
Also watch Skegness ????????

We head to Belper in the Amber Valley part of Derbyshire, situated in the East Midlands area of England to see what's there and to answer the question 'is Belper worth visiting'.

The town of Belper is 8 miles north of Derby and is situated in the valley of the River Derwent.

Belper has a farmers market which is held on Belper's historic market place on the second Saturday of every month, selling a wide variety of things from local cheeses, honey, bread, brownies, cakes and more.

What is Belper famous for?
The town now holds World Heritage Status due to the historical significance of being one of the first mill towns and forms part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.

Belper used to be totally reliant upon manufacturing, such as cotton spinning and textiles in the mills (such as East Mill and North Mill).

Today the main sectors in Belper are retail, services and tourism, and thanks to great shopping streets like King Street the town wins awards for it's shopping. In 2014, Belper was presented with the High Street of the Year award for the Market Town category, as well as winning the award overall.

As well as the town of Belper itself, the parish also includes:

Bargate
Belper Lane End
Blackbrook
Broadholm
Far Laund
Farnah Green
Makeney
Milford
Mount Pleasant
Openwoodgate
White Moor

Is Belper worth visiting?
I would say absolutely yes! Enjoy a walk down King Street shopping, spend time in the historical streets of this great town, and have lunch in the Black Swan in the Market Place.

Places to see in ( Uppingham - UK )

Places to see in ( Uppingham - UK )

Uppingham is a market town in the county of Rutland in the East Midlands of England, located on the A47 between Leicester and Peterborough, about 6 miles south of the county town, Oakham on the A6003 road. The market square is transformed once a year into the only fatstock show still to be held in temporary penning in a traditional market town. The first recorded show was in 1889. In 2011, 140 sheep, 24 pigs and 20 cattle were entered. The event attracts farmers from all over the area who exhibit their prize livestock and toast their acquaintances afterwards in The Falcon Hotel.

A little over 1 mile (1.6 km) to the north-west at Castle Hill are the earthwork remains of a medieval motte and bailey castle. The Church of St Peter and St Paul, Uppingham is largely 14th century. It is perhaps known particularly for the early ministry of Jeremy Taylor. Uppingham Workhouse was first recorded in 1777 with space for 40 inmates. Until 1834 it was a parish workhouse, but in 1836 the Uppingham Poor Law Union began, and a new Union workhouse was built on Leicester Road to house 158 people to a design by architect William Donthorne. In the World War I, the building was used as an auxiliary hospital staffed by a Voluntary Aid Detachment. The workhouse was closed in 1929, and taken over by Uppingham School which uses the building as a boarding house for 60 girls called Constables.

The main local authority is Rutland County Council which is responsible for most local services. Uppingham ward, which includes the neighbouring parish of Beaumont Chase, has three councillors out of a total of 26 on the County Council. In addition, Uppingham Town Council, based at Uppingham Town Hall, is responsible for some services such as allotments, cemeteries and open spaces.

There is no railway station in Uppingham. The nearest railway station at present is Oakham – 6 miles (10 km) north – on the cross-country line between Birmingham, Leicester and Peterborough. Alternatively, Corby station 9 miles (14 km) south on the Oakham branch of the Midland Main Line provides frequent services to London.

Historically, Uppingham railway station, at the end of a branch line from Seaton, was opened in 1894 and was located at the end of Queen Street. Passenger services were withdrawn in 1960 and the line closed completely in 1964. The station area has now been redeveloped as an industrial estate. Although the operational railway line runs closest to Uppingham at Manton Junction, it has no station.

( Uppingham - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Uppingham . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Uppingham - UK

Wirksworth Derbyshire 28th September 2021

Photos taken on the 28th September 2021 in the historic Derbyshire market town of Wirksworth.

Wirksworth - Derbyshire (PART 1)

This weekend, we drove slightly to the north of England to Wirksworth Derbyshire. Interestingly, St. Mary's Church has kept ancient stone carving from the Anglo-Saxon period inside their church. We've found them quite funny because the carvings look like children drawings. No offence, I'm just being honest ^ ^'

We then walked up to the Green Hill to visit Star Disc and found the views very impressive along the way up. It was quite a long climb to the top. First thing we saw when we entered Stoney Wood was the very impressive star disc created by an artist name Aidan Shingler.

We took a walk further down and found also Orientation Disc, Calendar Stones, Chain Sculpture, Peace pole and Infinity loop. That was it for us that day. Please subscribe for our upcoming episodes.
