Driving Around Small Town Carrollton, IL in 4k Video
Filmed on Sunday, February 26, 2023, I drive around the small town of Carrollton, Illinois to see what's happening.
Carrollton is a city in and the county seat of Greene County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,484 as of the 2010 census.
Carrollton is located in south-central Greene County, Route 67 passes through the city as 5th Street, leading north 35 miles (56 km) to Jacksonville and south 32 miles (51 km) to Alton on the Mississippi River. Illinois Route 108 (Main Street) crosses US 67 in the center of town, leading east 29 miles (47 km) to Carlinville and west 11 miles (18 km) to Kampsville on the Illinois River.
It is located 68 miles (109 km) southwest of Springfield, the state capital, and is 60 miles (97 km) north of St. Louis, Missouri. Greene County borders the Metro East area.
There are two banks in Carrollton: Carrollton Bank and CNB Bank. Records show CNB Bank to be the oldest continuously active bank headquartered in Illinois.
Carrollton is home to three schools: Carrollton High School (Carrollton, Illinois), Carrollton Grade School, and St. John the Evangelist Catholic School.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,605 people, 1,077 households, and 724 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,561.2 inhabitants per square mile (602.8/km2). There were 1,175 housing units at an average density of 704.2 per square mile (271.9/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 98.77% White, 0.04% African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 0.38% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.50% of the population.
There were 1,077 households, out of which 31.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.7% were married couples living together, 9.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% were non-families. 29.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.92.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 23.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 21.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 88.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.8 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $30,154, and the median income for a family was $37,368. Males had a median income of $33,194 versus $19,211 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,340. About 6.4% of families and 9.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.7% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.

Helen (the German town) where we've stayed at Yonah Mountain Campground and Cherokee RV Campground
FInally we wrap up with Providence Canyon State Park. No RV Camping here only backpacking style but Florence Marina State Park is only 7 miles away and it does have RV sites.

I would like to very much to believe it has not changed a great deal since July 2010 because, amazingly, the population in 2020 was 2485 and has pretty much been around this number since 1890 when the population was 2258. It makes me happy for rural farming towns to continue to maintain themselves and exist.

Carrollton is a city in Dallas, Denton, and Collin counties in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 133,434, making it the 23rd-most populous city in Texas.
Early on, Carrollton's livelihood was exclusively agricultural, but following the construction of the Dallas-Wichita Railroad through Trinity Mills in 1878, the community began to grow in its industrial significance. Carrollton's significance was further strengthened when the railroad was extended to Denton in 1880 by Jay Gould, who sold the line to the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad (the Katy) in 1881. By 1885, Carrollton had flour mills, cotton gins, two churches, a school, and a population of 150. The St. Louis Southwestern Railway (the Cotton Belt) crossed the Katy in 1888, and the town became a shipping center for livestock, cotton, cotton seed, and grain, helping the town surpass Trinity Mills to the north.
In 1913 Carrollton was officially incorporated, and W.F. Vinson was elected mayor. A gravel industry that began in Carrollton in 1912 transformed the city, by the late 1940s, to a grain and gravel town. The city also supported a brick plant and a dairy industry, and National Metal Products established itself in the city in 1946.
After World War II the city grew rapidly. In 1950 its population stood at 1,610, and it grew to 4,242 in 1960 and 13,855 in 1970. At this point, significant suburban growth began spilling out of north Dallas, and the city grew tremendously between 1970 and 1980, with a documented growth of 193% to 40,595 inhabitants. By 1983, the population was 52,000, by 1990, it had reached 82,169, and by 2010 the population had grown to 119,097.
As a suburb of Dallas, in 2006 named to America's Top 100 Places to Live by Relocate America.[9] Also in 2006, it was selected as the 19th best place to live in the United States by Money magazine. In 2008 it was named by Money magazine the 15th best place to live among small cities.
In 1996 there was a successful recall of Mayor Gary Blanscet and council members Linda Caldwell, Bernis Francis, Stan Hampton, Bob Novinsky, Bert Colter & Stan Sewell. All were removed from office and replaced in a special election.
