Ethiopia is a mysterious, mountainous land in the Horn Of Africa and birthplace of Early Christianity. A country of rock churches in the north and a large variety of tribes along the Rift Valley in the south and the oldest civilised region in Africa with more than twenty five centuries of documented history. Addis Abeba is the capital of Ethiopia and within its centre is the lavishly furnished Menbere Selassie Church, final place of rest of Ethiopia’s last royal family. It contains the Empress Menen, two princes and Emperor Haile Selassie who, shortly after removal from power, died due to reasons that are in the main controversial. On many of its thirty seven islands, Lake Tana in Northern Ethiopia is well known for its ancient churches and monasteries. Dega Stefanos is located in the centre of the lake and contains one of the country’s most important monasteries. On the summit, framed by walls and hidden under great trees, is the Holy Stefanos Monastery and within a small sanctuary various mummies are preserved within glazed wooden coffins and the remains of five emperors of various dynasties lie at rest. Awash is a settlement on the edge of the nature park of the same name, inhabited by the Afar, a proud and independent tribe. On market day, people from the surrounding area meet here. For the Afar, life is hard and only the strong survive. Corn, tobacco, dates and cotton are the main trading products of this region. Dromedaries, sheep and goats are bred, and pastureland is often the subject of heated disputes. A journey through Ethiopia is also a journey through time itself. A land of rich traditions, religions and myths. A country of legends and contrast that possesses one of the most colourful histories on the African continent.

Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela, Ethiopia [Amazing Places]
The 11 medieval monolithic cave churches were built or rather carved from the rock by king Lalibela in the 13th century to create a 'New Jerusalem'. In the video: walk around the 11 Lalibela churches, beginning with a morning mass at Bet Giyorgis, and following with Bet Medhane Alem, Bet Maryam, Bet Danaghel, Bet Gabriel-Rafael, Bet Emanuel, Bet Abba Libanos. At the very end - Yemrehanna Kristos church, located in a natural cavern, 40 km from Lalibela, predating the Lalibela churches by a century. The Lalibela Rock Hewn churches are UNESCO World Heritage site.

Flying Ethiopian Airlines - How They Became the Biggest in Africa?
I flew on an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 787 from Vienna to Addis Ababa. Find out Ethiopian Airlines latest onboard product in both Business Class and Economy class. The flight was overnight and took 5 hours and 45 minutes. Before landing, a beautiful sunrise greeted all passengers. Join me for landing inside the cockpit of Boeing 787.
After landing, I toured the passenger terminal and up to 10,000 passengers in the morning transit at Addis Ababa Bole Airport making it the busiest hub in Africa.
I was given a tour of the Ethiopian Airlines Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility where a Boeing 767 is undergoing cargo conversion. Then I went inside an Ethiopian A350 passenger freighter full of cargo in the cabin. Last, I went on a day tour in Addis Ababa city.

Visiting Tigray, The Worst War You've Never Heard Of (#173)
Ukraine. Israel/Palestine. Some conflicts dominate the news cycle, while others pass by barely noticed -- Sudan, Myanmar, Congo, just to name a few. But the most violent war of the past decade was in a place many have never heard of: Tigray, in northern Ethiopia.
In just 2 short years between 2021 and 2022, a brutal struggle was fought between the Ethiopian government and the Tigrayan people. At least half a million people lost their lives.
But Tigray used to be known for more than just conflict. It's the home of Axum, an ancient city that could be considered the beginning of Ethiopia. It's also supposedly the place where the Ark of the Covenant is held, which is said to hold the 10 Commandments. Intense.
No one wants to visit this place. I decided to go for it.

This “window” allows one to look from the high country for miles and miles to the landscape beyond. The area features woven woolen baskets and hats made by the locals in which they display it for sale on the top of the mountain. This beautiful landscape also features live large troops of gelada baboons which are endemic to Ethiopia. Come to the motherland and enjoy the Aerial view of Menelik’s Window landscape. The area has natural, cultural and historical values besides its closeness to the capital city Addis Ababa.

We Found A Perfect Peaceful Place To Hide in Ethiopia Africa
Wondo Gomet hot springs in The Sothern part of Ethiopia in Africa. It is a perfect place to chill, enjoy the swim and relax from the hustles of the city.
The name of this hot springs resort 16km southeast of Shashemene translates as ‘Green Heaven’, which was more applicable before the hills were cleared of most of their forest. The cement hot springs pools have more the feel of a water treatment plant than a swimming pool, but it's a great place to enjoy a slice of local life.
