Hotel Review: Best Western Bentley Hotel, South Hykeham, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England - May 2017
I stayed at the Best Western Bentley Hotel in Lincoln, in May 2017. Two of us stayed for 2 nights, bed and breakfast, which cost £205.20 booked with Booking.com.
The room was nice and large, and came with bath robes, a bizarrely placed safe on the floor, excellent air conditioning, corby trouser press, tea and coffee, desk, hairdryer, mirrors, flat screen Panasonic TV, ample plug sockets (around 7), telephone, clock radio, coffee table and two chairs, king-sized bed, standard lamp, and radiator. The bathroom was decent and clean, with a shower / bath arrangement. The room was very good overall, although upon entering there was a faint whiff of cigarettes, I didn't let this put me off, but it wasn't great.
The breakfast buffet was excellent, no complaints at all. The restaurant was VERY busy though on the bank holiday weekend that I stayed there.
The bar was small and basic, but OK for a quick pint. The hotel had a very large swimming pool (20 metres by 10 metres I am guessing), which was well used during our stay by ourselves and other guests. I couldn't film there though, so this is not included in the film, but it was a very good feature.
The main disadvantage of this hotel is it's distance to the city centre. It is 6.3 miles and a 15 - 20 minute drive to Lincoln Cathedral. We drove there and back once, but parking was difficult, so we took a taxi there and back the day afterwards, I've forgotten how much this cost (I'm guessing around £15 each way), but we had to wait over an hour for a taxi there and back. It seems that Lincoln is a city with not enough taxis...Uber - take note!!!
This film features the following: an external view of the hotel, the lift / elevator, a first floor corridor, a detailed inspection of room 245, restaurant, breakfast buffet and bar.
I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, and would very likely stay here again in future, if I were in Lincoln - just to use the swimming pool!

STEAMPUNKS in LINCOLN (Take Paralympics by Storm!)
STEAMPUNKS (whom I had never heard of a week ago) gathered in the Cultural Quarter of Lincoln that include the Cathedral and Castle, setting up market stalls selling their peculiar wares, parading in Victorian granduer the old Roman and Medieval street including Steep Hill this year nominated Britain's Great Street. Their second annual meeting in our historic city, this year they met over three days in the ASSEMBLY ROOMS in Bailgate, delighting and bemusing in equal measure local people and other tourist enjoying what surely must have been summer's last fling with temperatures in the mid 20's! THE SAME NIGHT the equally captivating PARALYMPIC GAMES came to a conclusion in the Olympic Park, Stratford, London in a Closing Ceremony headlined by the rock band COLDPLAY (and special guests Rhianna & JZ) that also prominently featured STEAMPUNK designs, dress, iconography and fantasmagoria as its main theme.

A photofilm from the Haycock Hotel Wansford: I've known the Haycock Hotel for many years and have been fortunate to have photographed a number of weddings there. James & Emma are both keen photographers and commissioned me to photograph the wedding day on what turned out to be one the snowiest days during the month of March I can remember!

The hotel is situated near to Peterborough and Oundle and is a popular choice for wedding couples from Peterborough and surrounding area.
The Haycock hotel is a fantastic 16th century venue on the banks of the river nene which was once served as a coach house. The Hotel has the flexibility to cater for many different wedding ceremonies and wedding receptions of varying styles and sizes. On warmer days the gardens of the Haycock are a great place for wedding guests to wander and chat outside during the drinks reception. The Haycock's courtyard, formal herb gardens and bridge over the river nene all serve as a wonderful back drop to wedding day photographs and are the perfect place for any bride and groom to escape their wedding party for a short while.
At heart I'm a documentary photographer. This style of photography, sometimes called reportage; means that I produce real photographs from real moments and authentic emotions.

Narrowboat life is sometimes challenging. We have run out of water, and get stuck in the weed trying to fill up, and then of course there are no mooring spaces! Some days are just like that! We head back to Torksey Lock from Anton's Got, stopping over in beautiful Lincoln again.
