History

The town was occupied by the Donghak Peasant Revolution in 1894. Jeonju (like the rest of Korea) was then occupied by the Japanese beginning in 1910. The ancient walls of the old city were destroyed by the Japanese authorities with the Pungnammum Gate being the only remnant left today. Jeonju's population grew between 1925 and 1949 when it reached 100,000 inhabitants.[2] Jeonju was given metropolitan status in 1935, and the city was founded in 1949. During the Division of Korea, Jeonju was not in the immediate frontline of the war but by the armistice signing in July 1953, Jeonju (along with many other cities) suffered bombardment and the loss of many male residents who fought during the war.

Our First Hanok Stay in Jeonju Hanok Village | South Korea

Name of the house: Gohyundang
Google map:

This was a very last minute decision.
We didnt plan to overnight in Jeonju, it was suppose to be a pit stop only on our back to Seoul.
But there are so much to see in Jeonju so we end up walking into random hanok houses and ask them whether they have available rooms for us.
The one we stayed happens to be just the perfect house.
There are 2 rooms left , can fit all 5 of us. Comes with breakfast and the toilet HAS bidet. Alhamdullilah. Worth the walk. haha

Hi, everyone. Welcome!
Today, we will walk through Oseong Hanok Village in Soyang-myeon, Wanju-gun.
Wanju is a hot place that comes to mind these days as it is called'Emotional Wanju'.
A village surrounded by mountains. It is a pleasant walk just by being in the fresh nature.
Oseong Hanok Village was selected as the '5 Beautiful Buildings in Spring' (Korea Tourism Organization).
It is beautiful to see 22 hanoks sitting quietly in the mountains. And I think the hanok here is more attractive by keeping the traditional look and matching the modern sensibility well.
Most of the hanoks in Oseong Hanok Village are operated as Hanok Stays. However, there are cafes, bookstores, and galleries, so you can enjoy the beautiful Hanok Village even if you do not stay overnight. I am happy to walk together in Oseong Hanok Village. Have a good time.????
