Driver’s Eye View of Austria’s legendary “Semmering Railway” – Payerbach to to Mürzzuschlag
Enjoy the view normally reserved for the driver as we travel over the first mountain railway in Europe to employ standard gauge track. The railway was constructed between 1848 and 1854 by some 20,000 workers featuring 14 tunnels (among them the 1,431 m summit tunnel), 16 viaducts (several two-storey), along with numerous attractive stone bridges. Our train has to tackle 2.5% gradients and negotiate curves as tight as 190m radius, a real challenge for any train. The railway is so remarkable that it has been added to the list of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. Please sit back and join me for a ride over this highly scenic Alpine railway.

Waidhofen an der Ybbs
Waidhofen an der Ybbs is one of the prettiest towns in Austria. Heck it's one of the prettiest towns in Europe! Waidhofen is located in the scenic valley of the Ybbs River in the southwestern part of the state of Niederösterreich (Lower Austria). It's location is nestled amidst the foothills of the Alps where they are transitioning into the high mountains.
Waidhofen an der Ybbs is a very old city and has been the center of the Ybbs valley since the middle ages. Its well-preserved buildings from the centuries past are a major part of its charm. It could also be called the City of Towers as several distinctive medieval edifices reach towards the sky and give Waidhofen a unique skyline. Stroll through the small lanes of its colorful medieval town center and you will enjoy the delightful old-world atmosphere.
Of course, there is also much to do concerning the outdoors in the Waidhofen area. With streams and mountains abounding, the world of nature awaits. You can begin to enjoy nature only a few minutes from the town center with a hike up the Krautberg to take in the glorious views of the city of Waidhofen and its countryside.
And best of all, Waidhofen is easily accessible by train as it is a short train ride from the main east-west railroad line of Austria. Amstetten is the transfer city ... and it makes for an easy day outing from Vienna.

idyllische Radtour durch das nördliche Waldviertel - Thayarunde von Göpfritz nach Raabs an der Thaya
Die Radtour führt von Göpfritz an der Wild über Groß Siegharts nach Raabs an der Thaya und zeigt eine Etappe des Thayarunde-Radwegs im nördlichen Waldviertel. Der insgesamt 111 Kilometer lange Thayarunde-Radweg verläuft großteils auf den ehemaligen Bahntrassen Waidhofen - Slavonice und Göpfritz - Raabs. Die asphaltierte Strecke schmiegt sich an die sanften Geländeformen des nördlichen Waldviertels und ist dadurch ideal für einen Radausflug in der Natur geeignet.

Am 15.06.2019 führte der jährliche Sommerausflug des Vereins Vorarlberger in Wien die Reisegruppe ins Niederösterreichische Ybbsitz ehe es weiter nach Waidhofen an der Ybbs und schließlich zum Tagesausklang in die Ahrenberger Kellergasse ging. Waidhofen 1986 Festzug 800 Jahre
1986 feierte die Stadt Waidhofen an der Ybbs im NÖ Mostviertel sein 800 jähriges Bestehen. Zum Festakt kam sogar der kurz danach gewählte Bundespräsident Dr. Kurz Waldheim - aber beim Festzug war dann die ganze Stadt auf den Beinen. Und rund 1000 Mitwirkende ließen dies alles zu einem vollen Erfolg werden. Dieses Video wurde von Katl Piaty (geb. 1948) mit einer der ersten Sony 8 Videokameras gedreht, die es damals in Österreich gab.
