Grotenhoutbos Vosselaar - Large Belgian Forest in Autumn
Today I visited the beautiful Grotenhoutbos in Vosselaar and Gierle. With my DJI Mini 3 Pro I took a look from the sky! This beautiful park is over 300 hectare large and if you're lucky you can even see some deers or a fox.
You can of course visit this park by yourself as well, it's really easily accessible from Vosselaar.

Doel: The Ghost Town of Belgium | The Planet V

The houses in Doel are generally 20th-century style terraced houses. The family of Flemish baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens lived here.
It became known as Flanders’ “ghost town waiting for demolition.
Its location near the Antwerp area became the reason why this village became an attractive location for the widening of the port area thus forcing residents to leave the village. Several street artists have turned this ghost town into a tourist attraction with the hope of stopping the total demolition of the village.

Ghost town in Belgium | Doel (Belgium)
Doel is a ghost village near the port of Antwerp. Of the 1,300 inhabitants in 1977, only 25 remained in 2017. Almost all houses are boarded up with metal plates and the village is only accessible with a Belgian ID.
History:
in the 60s there were plans to expand the port of Antwerp. Doel would disappear for harbor docks and industrial sites. in 1969 a nuclear power plant was built next to the village. In the late 90s it was decided that the harbor would be expanded with two new docks, one of which would run right through Doel. Residents could voluntarily sell their homes between 1999 and 2003. In 2003 there were ultimately only 214 inhabitants left. In 2017 there were only 25 official residents left. In 2018, the government drew up a new plan to build the harbor dock that Doel will continue to exist and can revive. This plan was approved in 2022.
Today:
All houses are boarded up with metal plates and the village is only accessible with a Belgian ID. At night there is a gathering ban and there is always a lot of police control.

Turnhout ontstond op het kruispunt van twee grote handelsroutes en in de schaduw van het jachtkasteel van de hertogen van Brabant. Dat kasteel zou al voor 1110 hebben bestaan. Het jachtverleden wordt nog steeds weerspiegeld in het stedelijke wapenschild met vluchtend hert.
In 1212 kreeg de kleine gemeenschap stadsrechten van hertog Hendrik I van Brabant. Op het einde van de 13de eeuw werd het begijnhof gesticht. Tegen de 16e eeuw was Turnhout een rijk commercieel centrum geworden, maar het einde van de eeuw brachten oorlog, vuur, confiscaties en epidemieën. Door de onderdrukking en de inquisitie vluchtten veel progressieven naar Nederland waardoor de streek rond Turnhout verarmd achterbleef.
De industriële ontwikkeling van het einde van de 19de en begin 20ste eeuw werd mogelijk dankzij de aanleg van Kanaal Dessel-Turnhout-Schoten (1844-1846) en de spoorlijn (1855). Op 1 januari 1859 verloor Turnhout een deel van zijn grondgebied aan Oud-Turnhout dat vanaf toen als zelfstandige gemeente bestaat. Het plan om Turnhout bij de fusie van gemeenten vanaf 1 januari 1977 samen te voegen met Vosselaar, Oud-Turnhout en Beerse ging niet door.
De stad en zijn omgeving waren verscheidene keren het toneel van gevechten en twee grote veldslagen zijn naar Turnhout genoemd: een in 1597 en een in 1789. Beide worden de Slag van Turnhout genoemd. Tijdens de Tachtigjarige Oorlog, met de voor de stad belangrijke Slag bij Turnhout van 1597, versloeg prins Maurits van Nassau - later prins van Oranje - de Spaanse troepen. Na deze slag nam Maurits het kasteel van Turnhout in. De slag kwam als eerste in een hele reeks overwinningen die leidde tot de verovering van de laatste Spaansgezinde steden boven de Rijn. Op 27 oktober 1789 versloeg een 'boerenleger' van vrijwilligers en patriotten met hulp van de Turnhoutenaren de getrainde Oostenrijkse troepen. Toen het nieuws van de overwinning in Turnhout zich over Vlaanderen verspreidde, nam het verzet toe. De Brabantse Omwenteling was een feit. De Brabanders veroverden Gent, Diest, Tienen en Brussel. In januari 1790 werden de Verenigde Nederlandse Staten uitgeroepen. Die bestonden tot december 1790.
