O nome Viradouro originou-se de uma fazenda assim denominada
Em 21 de março de 1906, era publicado o Decreto que criava o Distrito Policial de Viradouro e o primeiro posto policial; e em 3 de dezembro do mesmo ano, através da Lei n. 1004, o Arraial do Viradouro foi elevado à categoria de Distrito de Paz de Pitangueiras, que então pertencia à Comarca de Bebedouro. A instalação do Distrito deu-se em 31 de janeiro de 1907.
O distrito de paz de Viradouro foi criado em 1906, como parte integrante do município de Pitangueiras.
Em 26 de dezembro de 1916, pela Lei n. 1.522, a localidade foi elevada a município, vindo a ser instalado em 23 de março de 1918.

O carnaval é o maior e mais popular evento cultural do Rio. De suas raízes históricas, os festejos do Entrudo, que foram introduzidos na cidade pela Corte Portuguesa, acabaram por permitir o surgimento do que hoje é considerado um evento multifacetado, com os festejos ocorrem nas ruas, com os blocos e bandas, em salões, com os bailes carnavalescos, e no sambódromo, com o famoso desfile das escolas de samba.
Atualmente, o carnaval na cidade é homologado pelo Guinness World Records, o Livro dos Recordes, como o maior carnaval do mundo, com um número de 2 milhões de pessoas por dia brincando nas ruas e atração de cerca de 400 mil turistas estrangeiros.
Dentre as escolas de samba destacam-se, entre outras: Mangueira, Portela, Viradouro, Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel, Unidos da Tijuca, Salgueiro, Imperatriz Leopoldinense e Beija-Flor de Nilópolis.

Carnival in Rio: Viradouro 2010 - Narrated in English
Samba School: Viradouro
Viradouro represents Niteroi, the city across the bay from Rio. It has joined the elite Special Group in the late 1980s. It is, nevertheless, now an excellent, well organized and really creative school, which is always worthwhile to watch parade (it usually meets with big cheers by the crowds), although it only won once. It is particularly famous for its percussionists, which traditionally score 10's year after year.
The highlight of Brazil Carnival is undoubtedly the Rio Samba Schools Parade, a totally unique event in the world.
The Rio Samba Parade is the review of a fierce competition between the Rio samba schools. The judges and spectators watch the principal parades in the Sambodromo which was especially built for this event.
The Samba Parade is something everybody should experience at least once in their life. The event is broadcast live to several countries.
The Rio Samba Parade is very distinctive from all other street parades held at some other places in the world. It is not a street happening where people move chaotically about as they like, but more of a highly orchestrated show of vast proportions. Every parader has a specific role and place according to his costume in a particular wing, of a particular section of the samba school he/she is parading in support of.
Each year each school chooses a different theme for the Samba Parade. It can be a celebration of a particular period, or, of famous figures of Brazilian history. It may highlight a special event or speak of anything that might move the spirit and imagination; like a special animal, or one of the elements; water or fire, etc. The school has to illustrate the chosen theme through all its work:
• the samba tunes, which are especially written for that year
• the richly decorated floats and costumes of their 3,000 to 5,000 parading members designed by the school's Carnival Designer (the so called Carnavalesco).
The parade of every school is highly organized and designed. They line up in a unique way to present their pageant.
The costumes are extremely imaginative, colorful, elaborate and detailed. They are truly original, designed and made from scratch each year. They have mirrors, feathers, metallic cloth, silk and sometimes gems or coins. These costumes take months to make. The work starts roughly 8 months in advance.
You may think of the whole event as a tropical opera or rather like several operas happening on one night. It is beautiful to watch and the experience for the paraders themselves is so intense that the memories last for a lifetime.

In Rio de Janeiro and general in Brazil is hard to plan ahead because all depends on the weather to visit some of the top touristy attractions in Rio . I went In February -March 2020 when it was the carnival that is supposed to be their Summer but most of the days it was raining. But i have chosen the attractions carefully according to the weather and my trip was being done with success .

The city was the Brazilian capital right until 1960 - when Brasilia, the present capital, was inaugurated. Because it was the capital, concentrating much power, the city's architectonic traces include luxurious and imposing constructions - that sheltered the nobility along with some other essential personages of those times.
Given that the city's climate is warm and enjoyable through the year, Rio does not depend on seasons to bring in visitors. Its attractions can easily be appreciated any time of the year.
Rio de Janeiro has always been a favorite destination for gays, and in 2009, the city is elected the best LGBT destination in the world. In 2010, the same city also was elected the sexiest city of the world to LGBTs, according to the U.S. Logo channel and TripOutGayTravel.
