For this travel mini-series, we are chatting about the Paris metro and answering community questions. Many of these were submitted via YouTube because my Paris metro tutorial video is among the top-rated how-to's available.
Regarding using your iPhone, I have bad news for you - unfortunately, that is not an option yet.
Users with Android NFC phones can buy the pass of their choice in the RATP or IDFM / Ile-de-France Mobilités apps and use their mobile directly on turnstiles.
But at this time, non, désolé, iPhone users cannot use their phones to scan rides at the metro entrance.
This also allows me the opportunity to chat briefly about pickpockets and phones are one of the top targets for theft. Please consider using a wrist or crossbody strap securely attached to your phone, especially if you use it as a navigation tool.
I have had many Parisian friends walking along the street and have their phone literally snatched out of their hands while talking. So, take an extra moment while planning and preparing for your trip to order a phone strap and case that will help keep it safe.
