Aliyar Dam and Park is located in Aliyar village near Pollachi town in Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu. The dam is located in the foothills of Valparai, in the Anaimalai Hills of the Western Ghats.
42 km from Valparai going downhill along 40 hairpin bends and cutting through Annamalai Tiger reserve is a lively drive to Aliyar village. While still at high elevation, one can get a top view of Aliyar Dam and reservoir. At dam location site one has to go through a lovely park; a small stream flows through on the downstream side of dam. A bit of climb to the top of dam is worth the effort, to get closest view of the reservoir. Will rank as must visit for Valparai tourists.

Aliyar (ஆழியாறு) (also spelt Azhiyar / Aaliyar) Reservoir is a 6.48 km2 (2.5 sq mi) reservoir located in Aliyar village near Pollachi town in Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu, South India. The dam is located in the foothills of Valparai, in the Anaimalai Hills of the Western Ghats.[2] It is about 65 kilometres (40 mi) from Coimbatore. The dam offers some ideal getaways including a park, garden, aquarium, play area and a mini Theme-Park maintained by Tamil Nadu Fisheries Corporation for visitors enjoyment. The scenery is beautiful, with mountains surrounding three quarters of the reservoir. Boating is also available

The Aliyar Dam was constructed during 1959-1969 across the Aliyar river, mainly for irrigation purposes. Aliyar Dam was inaugurated on 2 October 1962 ( Gandhi Jayanti day) by then Prime minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, K Kamaraj, the CM of TN state presided over the function. The project was commissioned in September 2002 to generate Hydro Electric Power.

The Solaiyar Dam is part of the Solaiyar Hydroelectric Project (HEP). The project comprises the main Soliayar Dam, the Solaiyar Flanking, and the Solaiyar Saddle Dam.

Upper Solaiyar or Upper Sholayar Dam (சோலையாறு Solaiyaaru) is located 20 km (12 mi) from Valparai, a hill station in the Anaimalai Hills of the Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu India. As it is a part of the hydroelectric project of Tamil Nadu, special permission is required to visit the dam.

Valparai is located 64 km (40 mi) from Pollachi and 104 km (65 mi) from Chalakudy, Kerala. The nearest railway station is Pollachi.

The Solaiyar dam is a vital reservoir under the Parambikulam Aliyar Project and has a water storage capacity of 160 ft (49 m). The reservoir's overflowing waters are let into the Parambikulam Reservoir through the saddle dam.

ஆழியாறு அணை | Azhiyar Dam | Coimbatore Tourist Place | Annamalai Hills

Aliyar Dam is a charming location surrounded by Annamali Hills with wonderful natural views. It is located between Pollachi and Valparai.At a distance of 64 Kms from Coimbatore, 24 Kms from Pollachi & 545 Kms from Chennai.

Built across Aliyar River between 1959 and 1969, the primary purpose of the dam is to support irrigation for Pollachi and near by places for Agriculture purpose. The height of the dam is 81 meters. There is a well maintained park built at bottom of the Dam. The view of the Anamalai range around the reservoir is a feast for the eyes and the view of the coconut groves from top of the dam is amazing. Boating is available here.

It is connected by frequent buses from Pollachi. Most of the people visiting Valparai make a trip Aliyar Dam too.

Topslip parambikulam range hills are very near to this place, like kodaikanal or valparai or ooty these places are one of the best tourist destinations, An adventurous road trip with my royal enfield visiting unknown places in sethumadai which is on the way to topslip and parambikulam forest area. This place is in coimbatore district. we can reach this place through pollachi and anamalai, I never know whats there on bottom side of hills and forest, very beautiful place to visit, lot of coconut farms agricultural lands with water canals beautiful hills behind all the location was awesome.
To say exactly I visited Thamampathy which is a small village before sethumadi and next to that I heard there is a checkpost then forest starts, there are many beautiful farm lands on the way, mango trees, coconut trees which looks awesome, Pollachi and nearby areas are famous for coconut trees and beautiful scenic places.
Topslip and Parambikulam are some of the best tourist destinations which is very near to this place, there are lot of places to visit there.

The dam is located in the foothills of Valparai, in the Anaimalai Hills of the Western Ghats. It is about 65 kilometres from Coimbatore. The dam offers some ideal getaways including a park, garden, aquarium, play area and a mini Theme-Park maintained by Tamil Nadu Fisheries Corporation for visitors enjoyment. The scenery is beautiful, with mountains surrounding three quarters of the reservoir. Boating is also available.

Valparai (originally known as Poonachimalai) is a Taluk and hill station in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, India. It consists of Anamalai Tiger Reserve (earlier known as Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park and prior to that as Anaimalai Wildlife Sanctuary). It is located 3,474 feet above sea level on the Anaimalai Hills range of the Western Ghats. There are a total of 56 estates here. The foothill starts exactly from Monkey Falls which is at a distance of 38 kilometres to Valparai. The route to Valparai from the foothills consists of 40 hairpin bends. The Kerala state border town of Malakkappara is at a distance of 27 kilometres from Valparai. While major portions of the land are owned by private tea companies, large forest areas continue to be out of bounds.
