Traveling by train with the family to Vilnius. The oldest railway in Lithuania.
The line was installed between 1857 and 1864. as part of the St. Petersburg-Warsaw railway. in 1861 The line was used for passenger transport, grain, table salt, coal, firewood and wood were loaded or unloaded in Marcinkonyse. in 1911 the traffic schedule indicates that a mail train also stopped at Marcinkonių station.
When the tsar or members of his family were traveling on the St. Petersburg-Warsaw railway, the Lentvaris-Marcinkonys section was guarded by at least a couple of regiments of troops, local police on foot or mounted. In order to protect against train robbers, it was ordered to cut down the forest 300 m from the railway line.
