Although we may have made a great video, sadly this video leaves a sour taste in our mouth, after this video Happy Island contacted us to create content for them.

Which we did...they signed a 3 month contract, defaulted on the first payment and to this day have not settled their outstanding R140 000+ contract.

BUDDYMOON DAY 283/1000 (VLOG 70)

We never thought we would get robbed in South Africa. This was something we never wanted to happen, but the way we got robbed was a little strange. This happened in the Cape of Good Hope in the Western Cape of South Africa.

We started in Simons town where we explored the town and also went to Boulders Beach, where we actually got to see thousands of Penguins. Such a cool experience. Thereafter, we went to Cape of Good Hope, and this is where we got mugged.

S1 – Ep 219 – Vanderkloof - The Highest Dam Wall in South Africa!

When we left Orania we decided to go and see the highest dam wall in South Africa at the Vanderkloof Dam. We were not expecting to see this magnificent structure. We took a slow drive through the small town of Vanderkloof and also visited the Holiday Resort at the dam. Unfortunately it looked as if the resort was not functional anymore although there were a few people enjoying the place. We then left the resort and town and headed for the dam wall. What a privilege it was to drive over this magnificent piece of engineering! On our way to our next destination we crossed an absolutely stunning single-lane bridge which crossed the Orange River just below the Vanderkloof Dam. The natural beauty in this area is simply breathtaking! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #vanderkloofdam #northerncape #damwall #bridge #orangeriver

Orange River and Vaal River Confluence by Drone

South Africa's two greatest rivers, the Vaal and the Orange converge just outside the small town of Douglas in the Northern Cape. Here's some drone footage from a visit I paid a visit there earlier this year. Both rivers were very full, notice the difference in colour and also how much slower the Vaal's flow is than the Orange.

From here, South Africa's longest river still has another 900 km before it reaches the Atlantic ocean at Alexander Bay, on the border with Namibia.

Brakpan | South Africa Urban Rural Scenic Travel Adventure

Urban Rural Scenic Travel Adventure goes to the town of Brakpan, east of Johannesburg, on the East Rand.

Please like and subscribe and feel free to comment!
______________________________________________________________________
Brakpan is a mining town in the Gauteng province of South Africa. The name Brakpan was first used by the British boatman in the 1920s because of a non-perennial lake that would annually dry to become a brakpannies pan.

The name Brakpan comes from a small pan on a farm called Weltevreden, which was filled with very brackish water and was probably referred to as the brakpan, and it was near this pan that the first settlement started.  In 1888, a coal seam was discovered and a coal mine under the name of Brakpan Collieries was started. When a railway line was constructed from Germiston to Springs, Brakpan became one of the stations along the route.

With gold fever running high on the Witwatersrand in the early years of the twentieth century, it was not long before gold was discovered. In 1905, Brakpan Mines Company sunk its first two gold mining shafts. One of its claims to fame was that it had the highest mine dump in the world at that time, 120 metres (390 ft) above ground level. This was higher than any of the pyramids of Egypt except the Pyramid of Cheops.

From 1905 the village began to grow rapidly, remaining a suburb of Benoni until 1912 when it was granted the status of a municipality and proclaimed as a town. Brakpan's central position makes it a good distribution centre for industry, especially engineering works and foundries. In the late 1990s the municipality approved the construction of a huge casino and entertainment complex, Carnival City, which opened the town to tourists and provided much-needed jobs for the people.

The first activity which drew people to the area was the British coal mining in 1888 and the large coal powered power station also built by the British. A tram line to Johannesburg was built at this time to service the power station.

The Main Reef Road (today part of the R29) linked Brakpan to all the other mining towns in the Witwatersrand. Brakpan was a suburb of Benoni from 1914–1919, when it was granted municipal status.  The Brakpan miners were involved in the miners' strike of 1922. The town has gradually lost its importance as a gold mining area as the surrounding mines suffered from low yield over high cost. Many British residents emigrated during the apartheid era leaving a vacuum in the town which was filled by mostly Afrikaner farmers who had lost interest in farming.

Ermelo is an agricultural and mining, as well as commercial and education town in the Gert Sibande District Municipality of the Mpumalanga province of South Africa.

Situated 210 km east of Johannesburg, covering an area of 47.6 square km is home to an approximately 100 000 inhabitants.

Gauteng - South Africa

This directory provides information on the province of Gauteng and its associated cities and towns. Gauteng is one of South Africa’s major provinces and contains the country’s largest city, Johannesburg. It is also one of the smallest provinces in SA but is highly urbanised and is the most densely inhabited province in South Africa. Gauteng is the only landlocked province in the country without a foreign border.

The name Gauteng is derived from the Sotho word “gauta” meaning “gold” in reference to the thriving gold industry in the province, following the 1886 discovery of gold in Johannesburg. After the discovery of gold in 1886, the region became the single largest gold producer in the world and was when the city of Johannesburg was founded. Gauteng is divided in the south by the Vaal River which separates it from the Free State. It also borders with the North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

Mostly dominated by gleaming skyscrapers in the cities which is in sharp contrast to the African herbal shops, stalls and Indian bazaars with streets lined with fruit sellers and vendors. Gauteng is an eclectic mix of unique styles and tastes, in a sensual blend of ethnic and western. This blend is even more significant in the theatres and open-air arenas dotted throughout the cities.

The country’s administrative capital Pretoria, known as Jacaranda City, is situated within Gauteng as well as other large industrial areas such as Midrand and Vanderbijlpark. Gauteng is one of the most important educational and health centres in the county with Pretoria boasting the largest residential university in South Africa, the University of Pretoria. Most of the country’s research and development takes place in Gauteng, such as the Agricultural Research Council and the Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute.

Most of the Gauteng province is on the Highveld, a high-altitude dry grassland area where thunderstorms are common and seasonal changes fairly stable. The Magaliesburg Mountains provide the perfect getaway for the stressed “gautengers” – a fantastic mix of open spaces, game reserves and forests.
Businesses in Gauteng

As the economic hub of South Africa Gauteng has many large companies basing their headquarters here. Overseas companies are known to use Gauteng as their commercial base and as a gateway into Africa.

Gauteng is home to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange which is the largest stock exchange in Africa, as well as the Porsche centre, the largest in the world.
Nature in Gauteng

Although mostly a concrete jungle, Gauteng is home to many nature reserves and open gardens with Johannesburg having the largest man-made urban forest in the world.

Some of the Gardens and Reserves in Gauteng are :

Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden
Johannesburg Botanical Garden
Pretoria National Botanical Garden
Rietvlei Nature Reserve
Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve
Abe Bailey Nature Reserve
Alice Glockner Nature Reserve
Marievale Bird Sanctuary
Roodeplaat Nature Reserve
Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve
Kromdraai Conservancy
Krugersdorp Nature Reserve
Rietvlei Nature Reserve
Wonderboom Nature Reserve

What to see and do in Gauteng

Gauteng has a plethora of activities and attractions meshed into a space of complete diversity. The most famous attraction for the province must be the Cradle of Humankind UNESCO World Heritage Site, which includes the Sterkfontein Caves and the Wonder Cave at Kromdraai. The Maropeng Visitor’s Centre gives visitors an insight into the origins of mankind while the Sterkfontein Caves provide an enlightening experience. The history of Gauteng is deeply immersed in its prehistoric past with archaeological evidence discovered at the caves dating back 3 million years.

Saxonwold Johannesburg, South Africa Urban Rural Scenic Travel

Urban Rural travel Adventures goes to Saxonwold. The suburb has its origins as part of the Braamfontein farm which was owned by Hermann Eckstein. He had bought the farm to explore it for minerals and when he failed to find any, the land was converted as a timber plantation in 1891 called Sachsenwald after Otto von Bismarck's estate.

Please like and subscribe and feel free to comment!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The land's name was anglicized at the beginning of World War One and was called Saxonwold. In 1903, Wernher Beit & Co and Max Michaelis gave 200 acres of freehold ground in the Sachsenwald plantation to the Johannesburg Town Council for the use by the people of Johannesburg by the creation of the Herman Eckstein Park.

This park would become Zoo Lake, the Johannesburg Zoo and the South African National Museum of Military History. The remaining land in the plantation was developed into a township called Saxonwold in 1925 by the Transvaal Consolidated Land & Exploration Co Ltd.

The streets were laid out to view the Rand Regiments Memorial with instructions to home builders not to impede the view of the memorial and the street names having an old Anglo-Saxon theme and ended in wold.
