Illinois' Most Popular Tourist Town: Galena, Illinois 4K.
Galena, Illinois is a unique touristy town in northwestern Illinois. Galena has a lot of history to its name, and has transitioned over the years to become a nice weekend getaway for many Chicagoland folks, and people elsewhere within a days drive. The older buildings throughout downtown feature architecture that you don't see in other Midwest towns, and the up keep of the buildings throughout Galena have been top notch.

This Sad Town Used To Be The Capital Of Illinois: Vandalia, IL 5K.
Vandalia, Illinois is rich in history, but it's hard to ignore the state that the town is in currently. The poverty rate in Vandalia is twice the national average rate, and the median household income is incredibly low, even when you compare it to some other nearby Illinois towns.

Hey Guys! This is part 3 of my July 2021 road trip through Missouri and Illinois. On this video I show a number of places in the southwestern part of Illinois.
I start at East St. Louis, directly east and across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Missouri. I then visit the historic town of Vandalia to see a fire-breathing dragon! I see Taylorville, where Abraham Lincoln practiced law but was always interrupted by pigs. Finally I spend some time in Springfield and tour the Lincoln Adulthood Home, various interesting things to see, eat at the classic Cozy Drive In, and again pay my respects at the Lincoln Tomb.

Join us on our weekend trip to Ramsey Lake State Park, where we will show
you the park, campground, and trails. We also travel to Vandalia, which was
the state capital of Illinois from 1819 to 1839. While in Vandalia we visit
my wife's favorite coffee shop called Shimoji, and our favorite donut shop
Allie Mae Sweetery. Best coffee and donuts we have ever found. We had so
much video this weekend that there will be an upcoming video where we visit
a very cool pumpkin patch with our son, daughter-in-law , and two of our
grandsons. Hope you enjoy the video as much as we enjoyed making it.

Please forgive my nonprofessional editing, lines, ETC. I wanted to work on this as soon as I could all on my mobile, but I didn't get enough time to say everything I wanted. I didn't know the some of the editing were weird until it was too late. There were some moments the frames drops because I was recording in 4K 60 on my phone.
This is something I want to try while I go to explore and show the community cool things if I can. Since it's my first time I am quite shy which I find it easier do the voice over.

Historic National Road stop: Vandalia, Illinois
I visit the National Road Interpretive Center in Vandalia, Illinois, which of course is dedicated to the Historic National Road. In my first-ever episode that includes talking with a historian, I chat with Mary Truitt, who had been long involved with preserving the road's history.
In addition, I visit the nearby National Road kiosk and the Madonna of the Trail statue, which is only found in 12 places in the United States. This is the statue that represents Illinois.
(UPDATE: 6/21/2021:) Mary passed away on 6/20/2021. She will always be known for her love of history, and sharing it with others. Mary is widely mourned by those who knew her, especially in the National Road community.
