Martin Van Buren National Historic Site - Beautiful Upstate New York
Martin Van Buren National Historic Site is is located 20 miles south of Albany, New York, and two miles south of the village of Kinderhook, New York. The National Historic Site preserves the estate and thirty-six room mansion of Martin Van Buren, the eighth President of the United States. Van Buren purchased the estate, which he named Lindenwald, in 1839 during his one term as President and it became his home and farm during his retirement (wikipedia).
With me were my wife and son as we visited this site in the summer of 2018. Other stops on this trip were Saratoga, Fort Stanwix and Cooperstown (the Baseball Hall of Fame).

Join me today as I checkout the Big Spring in Southern Missouri. America's biggest spring is located in Van Buren, Missouri. This natural spring was one of Missouri’s first state parks from 1924 to 1969 till it was donated along with Alley and Round springs state parks to the National Park Service to become a part of the Ozark National Scenic Riverway. In case you're wondering the average daily flow is 286 Million gallons of water per day. The Big Spring Lodge and nearly all the cabins were build by the Civilian Conservation Corps. And this National park is free to visit . A must see visit on your Missouri road trip. Or maybe your looking for a place to visit on your St. Louis day trip. Nature springs are so cool to see in person.

Cave Spring near BIG SPRING Van Buren, Missouri | Current River and Ozark National Scenic Riverways
Missouri Springs are some of the best in the United States. The Ozarks are home to Big Spring, Alley Spring, Blue Spring, Greer Spring, and many other beautiful natural springs. Missouri is, also known as the cave state and is home to numerous caves. When the two come together like Cave Spring located to the west of Hunter, Missouri and south of Van Buren, Missouri near the banks of the popular floating and canoeing river called Current River.
This area is part of the National Park Service and is near the Mark Twain National Forest, which is home to most of the beautiful natural areas and wilderness of the Missouri Ozarks.

Today we are going to take a look at Arkansas and the mess that it is.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the national poverty rate was 11.8% percent or 38.1 million Americans in 2018. These states have the highest percentages of poverty in the country: Mississippi, New Mexico, Louisiana, West Virginia, Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama, District of Colombia, Oklahoma, South Carolina and the territory of Puerto Rico.
So why are we starting with Arkansas? Last month I got an email from a guy named Glen in Little Rock who said
I best not put Arkansas in my mouth again. He said he’d find me and pull me out of my electric car and crush my head.
I replied: Dude how did you watch my video, you are using AOL dial-up service.
He replied. What’s wrong with that.
I replied “Nothing if it were 1997.
He never replied again. So, in Glen's honor, I am putting Arkansas back in my mouth and we are going to look at the poorest towns in Arkansas.

Van Buren s the second-largest city in the Fort Smith, Arkansas–Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area and the county seat of Crawford County, Arkansas. The city is located directly northeast of Fort Smith at the Interstate 40 – Interstate 540 junction. The city was incorporated in 1845 and as of the 2020 census had a population of 23,218 ranking it as the state's 21st largest city.
Van Buren's location at the junction of Interstate 40, Interstate 540, and the Arkansas/Oklahoma border yields surprisingly large tourism and hospitality industries. The city is also located at the junction of several state and U.S. highways including Arkansas Highway 59, US 64, and US 71. A private airport, Twin Cities Airport was operational to the southeast of the city, but has been closed for many years. Modern railroads in the city include the Arkansas and Missouri Railroad and the Union Pacific Railroad.

This week’s adventure brings me to the beautiful and historic Hudson Valley Town of Kinderhook for a visit to the Lindenwald Estate on the Martin Van Buren Historic Site. I take a walk through the 36 room mansion then around the 125 acre property to see what is was like to live on a Gentleman’s farm. I then travel down the road to visit the Ichabod Crane school house to see the connection of President Van Buren and one of my favorite authors Washington Irving. I finish of the vlog with a visit to the Kinderhook Reformed Church Cemetery to see Martin Van Buren’s final resting place. It was another amazing journey and you’re all invited. Do Come Along!!!
