Pollachi is located in Coimbatore district in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Located in the southern Coimbatore Pollachi is the second largest town of the district. Its location near the Western ghats not only provides for an extremely pleasant weather throughout the year but also charming scenic beauty. The picturesque location has become a favourite among film-makers with over 1500 movies being shot here in the past few years. Tourist Places In And Around Pollachi Subramanyar Temple is the most popular tourists spot in Polluchi. The Jaggery Market of Pollachi is the largest in Asia and the vegetable market is one of the largest suppliers in the central region of Kerala. The Cattle and iron markets are also the largest in Southern India. Besides the market, there are also several dams which attract a lot of tourists. Some of the popular dams are Nirar Dam, Azhiyar Dam, Meenkara Dam, Sholaiar Dam and Peruvaripallam Dam. The town also houses various temples such as Ramalinga Sowdeshwari amman temple, SubramaniaSwamy Temple, Maasani Amman Thirukoil, Alagunachi Amman Temple, Thirumoorthy temple, Sulakkal Mariamman Thirukoil, Shree Velayudhaswamy Thirukoil, Echanari Vinayagar Thirukoil, Ambarampalayam Darga and Arulmigu Prasanda Vinayagar Temple. The town is also in proximity to Azhiyar Siddashram, Anaimalai Wildlife Sanctuary, Topslip, Valparai, Masaniamman temple, Amaravathy Dam and Crocodile Park. Into The History Of The Land The ancient name for Pollachi was ‘Porul achi’ meaning ‘the land of natural wealth and prosperity’. The town was also known by the name of Mudi Konda Chola Nallur during the reign of Kulottunga Chola III. The ancient Subramanyar temple which goes back about the 8th centuries is one of the most popular temples of the region. The temple was believed to have been a Shiva temple at some point in history. The region was also known as ‘Porull Aatchi’ meaning ‘the land of wealthy government’. The Pollachi market called by the name of ‘Pollachi Sandhai’ was known to be one of the most prosperous and famous in history. How To Reach Pollachi The closest international airport to Pollachi is Coimbatore airport. Domestic and International flights are available from here to all major cities in India, South Asia and the Gulf. Buses operate from Pollachi bus stand to nearby areas. The Coimbatore railway station is the closest major railway station to Pollachi. Pollachi Weather The weather conditions of Pollachi is mild and pleasant throughout the year. Although Pollachi can be visited throughout the year, due to its pleasant weather conditions during the monsoons and winter, the place looks splendid.

Valparai (originally known as Poonachimalai) is a Taluk and hill station in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, India. It consists of Anamalai Tiger Reserve (earlier known as Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park (IGWLS&NP) and prior to that as Anaimalai Wildlife Sanctuary). It is located 4,500 feet (1,400 m) above sea level on the Anaimalai Hills range of the Western Ghats. The foothill starts exactly from Monkey Falls which is at a distance of 38 kilometres (24 mi) to Valparai. The route to Valparai from the foothills consists of 40 hairpin bends. The Kerala state border town of Malakkappara is at a distance of 26 miles from Valparai. While major portions of the land are owned by private tea companies, large forest areas continue to be out of bounds.
Earliest records of this area are from the year 1846 when Ramasamy Mudaliyar started a coffee plantation here. In 1864, the Karnatic Coffee Company began their coffee plantation here but they could not make it profitable, hence they sold part of their land. In 1875, the roads and guest houses were built by soldiers for the visit of England’s Prince of Wales, the future Edward VII. Soldiers were posted here and horses and elephants were used for this purpose. However, the visit was eventually cancelled. In 1890, W. Wintil and Nordan bought a huge portion of land in Valparai from the Madras State Government under the British Raj. Wintil deforested the area and planted tea and coffee. He was assisted by Carwer Marsh, an experienced planter for a salary of 250 rupees. Here the rainfall will be throughout the year.It sometimes receives snowfall at winter season. Annual temperature of Valparai is max 25°C and min of 15°C in summer and (-1°C and 15°C ) in winter.
