Lyon, France’s third biggest city is a busy commercial and tourist centre in east-central France and a UNESCO world heritage site.
Situated on the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers, the historic city centre forms a peninsula called the Presqu'île between the two rivers. Here you’ll find the main square, the Place des Terreaux with the impressive city hall and the fine art museum, the Musee des beaux-art de Lyon. Housed in a former 17th century convent, it is one of the largest art galleries in France. A few streets away, the Opera House is the home of the Opéra National de Lyon. The original 1831 opera house was re-designed between 1985 and 1993.
Take a stroll through the slopes of the old silk district, called the Croix-Rousse, which features medieval and modern architecture, to the banks of the river Saône. Here you’ll find the Fresque des Lyonnais mural covering an entire building. It depicts 31 famous people from Lyon and is one of 150 wall paintings in the city.
Cross the river to the district called Vieux (Old) Lyon with its impressive medieval Cathedral of St John, the Renaissance quarter of St Jean and quirky museums such as the Miniature and Cinema museum. In this district you’ll find examples of narrow passageways named Traboules. Unique to Lyon, these 4th century short-cuts pass through buildings and link the streets on either side.
Take a ride on the world's first urban funicular railway, linking the old town to the hilly quarter of La Croix-Rousse and the Fourvière district. This large hill to the west of the city houses the bejewelled basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière and the Tour Metallique, a TV tower which replicates the top part of the Eifel Tower. In the Fourviere district you’ll also find extensive Roman remains, testifying to two millennia of urban settlement in Lyon.
Cross back over the river to the impressive science centre and anthropology museum, the Musee des Confluences. Wander through the impressive Place Bellecour the third-largest public square in France, past shops and lively restaurants.
Lyon is renowned for its cuisine and the world-famous chef Paul Bocuse originates from here. No visit would be complete without a meal in a bouchon – a typical Lyonnaise restaurant or a visit on the Rhone-side of the city to the sumptuous Paul Bocuse food hall, a gastronomic delight.

The Town Hall Tours was built between 1896 and 1904 by the architect Touraine Victor Laloux at law rue Nationale. The monumental building, disproportionately large compared to the Place Jean-Jaurès and the Palace of Justice , is intended to reflect the republican virtues and the municipal authority. The town hall and the Place Jean Jaurès evoke a Parisian layout. Interior and exterior decoration accounted for one quarter of the total cost (596,000 francs for 2.36 million).
On the facade, there are four Atlanteans of François Sicard ; on the left and right of the clock, two caryatids (Day and Night) are by Emile Joseph Nestor Carlier (1849-1927). Two elongated characters represent the Loire (on the left) and the Cher . They are Jean-Antoine Injalbert . The two wings are decorated: to the west, the Courage and Force of Jean-Baptiste Hugues , and to the east, Education and Vigilance, by Alphonse Cordonnier . All the rest of the decoration is due to Henri Varenne (who alone will receive 334,000 francs). Its roof served as a model for the restoration of the Montreal City Hall following its fire in 1922 .
On the ground floor, the stone peristyle serves as a place of exhibition.The monumental stone staircase houses a monument to the dead. On the first floor, the village hall and the wedding hall are abundantly decorated. The municipal council chamber is adorned with a triptych on the life of Joan of Arc by Jean-Paul Laurens (1901-1903).

Rouen is the capital city of the Normandy region in northern France. This is one of the few cities that still has some of the traditional buildings of the region. The city was also bombarded and attacked during WW2 but by the Americans and this is visible in the holes in the Judicial palace of Rouen. The city is also known for Jean D'arc because that's where she was burned as a witch. We start at the point where Joan of Arc was executed near the food market and take a relaxed walk around the city crossing the grande horloge in the city center. Europe 2018 Day 10, part 3: Vieux Lyon and the Confluence Museum
The unique architectural feature of Vieux Lyon is the traboules, which are in-building passageways between streets. We took the train to the Confluence Museum in the evening. We saw taxidermy, technology, and Japanese spirits. Outside, we tried to take some pictures, but the wind really picked up at the convergence of the Rhone and Saone Rivers. We then went over to the Confluence Shopping Center where we ate at Hanoi.

10/09/2023, la ligne 6 du tramway de Lyon, plus simplement nommée T6, est une ligne de tramway de la métropole de Lyon qui traverse en rocade les 7e, 8e, et 3e arrondissements de Lyon entre les stations Debourg et Hôpitaux Est - Pinel.
Le tramway T6 (Hôpitaux Est - Pinel) compte 14 stations au départ de Debourg et se terminant à Hôpitaux Est - Pinel.
Elle est construite dans la continuité de la ligne T1, et rencontre sur son trajet les lignes T2, T4, T5 du tramway et les lignes B et D du métro.
10/09/2023, line 6 of the Lyon tramway, more simply named T6, is a tram line in the Lyon metropolis which crosses the 7th, 8th, and 3rd arrondissements of Lyon between Debourg and Hôpitaux Est - Pinel stations.
The T6 light rail (Hôpitaux Est - Pinel) has 14 stations departing from Debourg and ending at Hôpitaux Est - Pinel.
It is built in the continuity of the T1 line, and meets on its route the lines T2, T4, T5 of the tramway and the lines B and D of the metro.
