Don't Go to the Beach in Raiatea! This is What You Should See and Do in Uturoa.
Raiata lies in the Society Island archipelago. It’s capital, Utaroa is right at the harbor and easy to walk around in. Immediately at the port, you’ll have access to car rentals, safari rides, scooters, etc. There are also shops at the port. It is 92 miles around the island, so it’s probably easier to pick a part of the island to visit rather than trying to see it all in a day. The coastline is predominantly rocky, so Raiatea isn’t known for its beaches. I found a public beach and some snorkeling along the coast within walking distance of the dock. For white sand beaches, you can take a boat, or even a kayak to a motu nearby. A motu is an unihabited island. Raiatea is also known for its sacred Mare Taputapuatea which is said to be fortified with mana (life force).

Raiatea Highlights | The Sacred Island | French Polynesia
We rented a car to drive around Raiatea to the biggest Maraes, sacred sights to ancient Polynesians. Raiatea is home to the biggest and most important mareae in Frnech Polynesia - Taputapuatea, a large complex of many marae that hosted political and religious gatherings and saw chiefs crowned and sacrifices made. Although not known for beaches, Raiatea has beauty in both the lush, green interior and the shores with views of the lagoon and ocean.
Here, we fly into Riaitea, visit Marae Tainuu which is now the sight of the oldest protestant church on Raiatea, and visit the marae coplex of Taputapuatea while seeing some beautiful scenery. To end the day, we see one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen from our Hotel Raiatea Lodge balcony.

This Is Why You Should Visit Taha'a French Polynesia
Our journey to Taha'a, this mesmerizing island in French Polynesia, was an experience of a lifetime! We were drawn to Taha'a primarily for its stunning coral garden, a paradise for snorkeling. I did my best to capture the essence of this place, but trust me, seeing it in person is a must. It was beyond breathtaking!
During our stay at La Perle De Tahaa, everything felt perfect. Our bungalow was not only clean and comfy, but the whole property exuded a wonderful vibe. The staff was incredibly friendly, and we even had the luxury of a restaurant/bar right on-site, boasting dishes cooked by a local chef.
One of the highlights was an incredible tour with four unforgettable stops. Picture this: a delicious lunch on a private motu, with sharks gracefully swimming nearby. Taha'a exceeded all expectations I had, and I can't recommend it enough. If you're planning a trip to French Polynesia, make sure Taha'a is on your list!

The best Raiatea snorkeling offers amazing biodiversity and scattered coral head formations. Located northwest of Tahiti in French Polynesia, the snorkeling in Raiatea is well-known for it calm conditions. The main island of Raiatea is surrounded offshore by an atoll barrier reef. Inside the barrier reef, the lagoon offers very calm water which is habitat to hundreds of species of colorful tropical reef fish among the healthy patch reefs.
