LAKE BAIKAL & The Hidden Beauty of Buryatia | Ulan-Ude, Russia
Lake Baikal, Buryatia, Russia - from the he small Russian family farm community on the border of Mongolia in Buryatia, we take a day-off from the Trans-Siberian Railway to experience the most popular attraction outside of Ulan-Ude; Lake Baikal.
Lake Baikal is the world's deepest lake and supplies the world with 1/5 of its fresh water. Lake Baikal is also the most ancient freshwater lake - originating some 20-25 million years ago!
We spent the day touring Lake Baikal with a great group of Buryat locals. They took us to the Ushkan Islands where we were able to see Lake Baikal's most famous resident - Nerpas!
Nerpas or Baikal seals, are one of the smallest true seals and the only seal who live exclusively in freshwater. They are also exclusive to Lake Baikal!
On day two around Lake Baikal we toured to Suvo Saxony; an incredible rock formation deep in the heart of Buryatia. Jetting out of the valley like prehistoric giants, there are many tales and legends around the distinct rock formations of Suvo Saxony (Suvinian Saxony).
From here we stop by a series of incredible salt lakes and then make our way back to Ulan-Ude.
In the morning, we take a tour of Ulan-Ude and experience Knowledge Day; The Russian holiday that marks the beginning of a new school year.
Ulan-Ude is a beautiful and diverse city.
After another delicious Buryat lunch, we head to the Ulan-Ude Train Station to catch the Trans-Siberian Railway once again.
This time, our Trans-Siberian Railway journey takes us to Vladivostok. Ulan-Ude to Vladivostok will take us three days across Siberia, into the far east of Russia.
Vladivostok will be our final stop of the Trans-Siberian Railway - stay tuned!

BAIKAL LAKE, SIBERIA 2020: Road Trip Ulan Ude - Irkutsk | Russian MUST SEE PLACE
In August 2020, one of my dreams finally came true - I visited the deepest lake in the world - lake Baikal. It is located in Siberia and a must-visit place in Russia. This road trip will always remain in my memories as one of the best and most beautiful in my life!
For a week I travelled around the lake Baikal with a group of amazing people, starting from Ulan Ude, where I visited several Buddhist temples. We hiked to the mountains with a local where we saw incredible views and real Russian taiga. We travelled to Irkutsk and went to explore the largest island of the lake - Olkhon Island.
In this video I told you a lot of interesting and useful information, and showed you stunning views of this unique place in Russia!

Улан-Удэ (до 1934 года — Верхнеудинск, бур. Улаан Үдэ хото) — город в России, столица Республики Бурятия. Город республиканского значения, образует городской округ город Улан-Удэ. Население — 440 тыс. чел.
Крупный культурный, научный, промышленный центр Восточной Сибири (географический регион). В административном отношении с 2018 года относится к Дальневосточному федеральному округу (ДФО), где является третьим по численности населения городом, уступая только Владивостоку и Хабаровску.
В 1666 году основано Удинское зимовье по названию реки Уды, притока Селенги (на эвенкийском «уда» — «спокойное, тихое течение»). В 1689 году Удинское зимовье преобразовано в Удинский острог. В 1735—1773 годах поселение упоминается как пригород Удинск, с 1775 года — провинциальный город Удинск, с 1783 года — уездный город Верхнеудинск. По оценке Е. М. Поспелова, форманта верхне- в названии города в этом случае не означает «в верхнем течении» (поскольку город находится в устье Уды, то есть в самом низу её течения), а была использована для отличия от города Нижнеудинска, расположенного на реке Уде, притоке Тасеевой. В 1934 году Верхнеудинск переименован в «Улан-Удэ» (буквально — «Красная Уда»: «Улаан» на бурятском — «красный», «Yдэ» — бурятское название реки Уды).
В последние годы город стал еще более привлекательным и красивым. Особенно он изменился в последние десять лет: появились десятки новых магазинов, оснащенные новейшим оборудованием кинотеатры, торговые центры, многочисленный рестораны и кафе.
Город Улан-Удэ включен в список наиболее ценных городов России - в городе 234 памятника истории, искусства и архитектуры и градостроительства. Сегодня в городе действуют 8792 субъекта хозяйственной деятельности. Из крупных предприятий локомотивовагоноремонтный, судостроительный, авиационный заводы, объединение «Стальмост», крупные торговые и строительные фирмы «Титан», «Икат», акционерные общества «Бурятнефтепродукт», «Амта», «Байкалфарм», «Бурятхлебпром», «Бурятмясопром», «Аквабур», «Электросвязь», «Бурятзолото», «Макбур» и ПО «Наран». Названные предприятия успешно работают как на внутреннем, так и на внешнем рынках. На предприятиях успешно осваиваются новые технологии, увеличивается ассортимент выпускаемой продукции.
Улан-Удэ является центром национальной культуры и образования. Здесь успешно работают четыре высших учебных заведения: Бурятский государственный университет, Сельскохозяйственная академия, Восточно-Сибирский технологический университет - крупнейший в Забайкалье ВУЗ, в 1962 году созданный на базе технологического и строительного факультетов сельскохозяйственного института и Восточно-Сибирская академия культуры и искусств основанная в 1960 году. Пять профессиональных театров: Бурятский государственный академический театр драмы им. X. Намсараева, Государственный русский драматический театр им. Н. Бестужева основанный в 1927 году, республиканский театр кукол «Ульгэр», и молодежный художественный театр драмы. В 1952 г. построено одно из красивейших зданий города - ведущий театр региона - академический театр оперы и балета им. Г. Цыдынжапова.

В 2000 году в городе Улан-Удэ, в местности Лысая гора было начато строительство здания дацана «Ринпоче Багша».
В 2004 году в дацане была установлена самая большая в России бронзовая, покрытая сусальным золотом, шестиметровая статуя Будды Шакьямуни.
27 июня 2004 года дацан «Ринпоче Багша» был официально и торжественно открыт на благо всех живых существ.
В 2005 году на территории храмового комплекса было установлено восемь буддийских ступ, в совершенной форме символизирующих природу просветлённого ума Будды.
В 2009 году был установлен Колокол Четырёх Печатей – самый большой в России буддийский колокол.

Ulan-Ude is a city in East Siberia, Russia. The main square Ploshchad Sovetov is home to the huge Lenin Head Monument.
The City History Museum is set within the former house of a tea merchant. Nearby is the 18th-century Odigitrievsky Cathedral. To the north, Datsan Rinpoche Bagshaw is a Buddhist temple with gilded stupas and sweeping city views. The outdoor Ethnographic Museum displays traditional Buryat wooden yurts.

After 40 hours on the #TransSiberian railway travelling east across the beautiful plains of south #Siberia we arrived into the mysterious city of #UlanUde the capital of the Republic of #Buryatia in the Russian Far East.

Trans-Siberian Railway | Ulan-Ude
From Irkutsk we are boarding the train to Ulan-Ude. This is one of the most scenic route on the whole Trans-Siberian railway. Train is following Baikal Lake in some areas getting so close to the lake that it seems like it's touching the water from the lake.
After eight hours in the train we are in Ulan-Ude, city in East Siberia. Different from everything we saw in Russia, people here are mostly practising buddhism. For us one of the most intriguing facts was that this city was closed for foreigners until 1980's.
We stayed for one and a half day here, next day we boarded the train to Mongolia.

Irkutsk is a city on the Angara River in eastern Siberia, Russia. The river embankment is lined with hurches, including the Epiphany Cathedral (Sobor Bogoyavleniya), with gilded onion domes, and the Spasskaya Church, with its soaring bell tower.
The restored neoclassical Moskovskie Vorota arch is also by the water. Near Kirov Square, the Irkutsk Regional Art Museum has ancient icons and more recent Russian artworks.
