Trains At: Uddingston (30/10/22)
In this video, we see some trains at Uddingston station, South Lancashire, Scotland. The station is situated on the West coast mainline, Argyle line and the Glasgow to Edinburgh via Shotts line. Trains Callumg at this station go to the likes of Glasgow Central, Edinburgh Waverly, Lanark, Carstairs, Motherwell and Anderston, with trains passing through going to London Euston, Wolverhampton, Birmingham New Street, Crew, London Kings X, Plymouth, Manchester Airport, Preston, Liverpool Lime Street and Milngavie. Trains that we see in this video include ScotRail class 318s, class 320s, class 385s, and Avanti West Coast class 390 pendolinos.

Brentford is a town in west London, England, historic county town of Middlesex and part of the London Borough of Hounslow, at the confluence of the River Brent and the Thames, 8 miles west-by-southwest of Charing Cross. Its economy has diverse company headquarters buildings which mark the start of the M4 corridor; in transport it also has two railway stations and the Boston Manor tube station on its north-west border with Hanwell. Brentford has a convenience shopping and dining venue grid of streets at its centre.
Brentford at the start of the 21st century attracted regeneration of its little-used warehouse premises and docks including the re-modelling of the waterfront to provide more economically active shops, townhouses and apartments, some of which comprises Brentford Dock. A 19th and 20th centuries mixed social and private housing locality: New Brentford is contiguous with the Osterley neighbourhood of Isleworth and Syon Park and the Great West Road which has most of the largest business premises.
Syon House, the London residence of the Duke of Northumberland, is a large mansion and park in Syon ward, described above, that has long been shared with Isleworth. Some of its seasonally marshy land is now a public nature reserve. The estate has a hotel (Hilton London Syon Park), visitor centre and garden centre. Syon Abbey, demolished and replaced (with reworked gatehouses) by the newer mansion, had the largest abbey church in England in the Middle Ages.
Boston Manor House, built in 1622, is a Jacobean manor house, noted for its fine plasterwork ceilings. Syon Park House (demolished in 1953, and not to be confused with Syon House itself) housed the 'Syon Park Academy' where the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley was educated between the ages of 10 and 12 before moving on to Eton. A Royal Mail depot stands on the site now. This may also be the site of the dwelling where Pocahontas lived in Brentford End between 1616 and 1617.
In 1909 a monument was made out of two stone pillars that used to support lamps on the old Brentford bridge over the Grand Union Canal. The monument originally stood at the end of Ferry Lane; after being covered in coal unloaded from boats, it was moved further up the lane in 1955. In 1992 it was moved again to its present site at the junction of Brentford High Street and Alexandra Road, outside the County Court. The monument commemorates four major events in Brentford's history: the supposed crossing of the Thames by Julius Caesar in 54 BC; the council of Brentford by King Offa of Mercia in 781; the defeat of King Canute by King Edmund Ironside at the first Battle of Brentford in 1016; and the second Battle of Brentford in 1642.
Brentford Dock came to single use and engineered enlargement as a freight terminus of the Great Western Railway. It was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and built between 1855 and 1859 at the confluence of the River Thames and River Brent. Brentford Public Library is a Carnegie library, built by the architect Nowell Parr and opened in 1904. Outside the library is Brentford War Memorial, accompanied by three smaller war memorials. Brentford Baths (1896), also by the architect Nowell Parr, is a Grade II listed example of late Victorian architecture.

The action at Lanark was an attack at Lanark, Scotland during the First War of Scottish Independence in May 1297. The Scotsman William Wallace led an uprising against the English and killed the Sheriff of Lanark, William Heselrig.
The town's name is believed to come from the Cumbric Lanerc meaning clear space, glade
Lanark is a historic market town in the Clyde Valley and is one of the oldest royal burghs in Scotland.
Lanark was granted its royal charter by King David I in the 12th century and two centuries prior to that it became home to the first Scottish Parliament. The town's St Nicholas Parish Church has what is believed to be one of the oldest church bells in the world. The Lanark Museum tell the story of a town whose annual highlight is Lanimer Day in June when the old burgh boundaries are checked and the Lanimer Queen is crowned in a well-established custom. The celebrations are based on King David I granting Lanark the status of Royal Burgh. A condition of the charter stated that the merchants of the town must inspect their boundary stones each year. Lanark claims to have carried out this duty every year since then in what has transformed into the Lanimar celebrations.
Lanark Museum, which houses a collection of items which illustrate the history of the town, is housed in the YMCA building. Other places of interest include Lanark Loch and Castlebank Park, which houses the former site of Lanark Castle. Nearby to Lanark is the World Heritage Site of New Lanark, the Falls of Clyde, Corehouse Nature Reserve and Corehouse Estate, where the remains of Corra Castle can be seen. The town has a vibrant high street with a selection of independent and high street shops as well as a variety of restaurants and cafes.
Bus services connect Lanark to the surrounding area and larger towns such as Motherwell, East Kilbride and Glasgow. The town's train station provides links to several destinations including Glasgow, Uddingston and Cambuslang. Lanark is easily accessible by road via the A721 and A71.

Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Bellshill a town in North Lanarkshire, located 10 miles south east of Glasgow city centre and 37 miles West of Edinburgh. In the late 1700s the parish of Bothwell, which encompasses modern Bellshill, was a centre of hand loom weaving with 113 weavers recorded. Demand for coal to feed British industry meant that by the 1870s 20 deep pits coal mines were in operation in the area. Hughie Gallacher was born in 1903 in Bellshill in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. He was a Scottish football player in the 1920s and 1930s. In 624 senior games, Gallacher scored 463 times. He is one of the Scotland national football team's most prolific goalscorers with 23 goals from his 20 internationals, a remarkable strike rate of more than a goal a game. Gallacher was one of the Wembley Wizards who beat England 5–1 at Wembley Stadium in 1928. Alex James was born in Mossend in 1901 and brought up in Bellshill in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Alexander Wilson James was a Scottish footballer who is most noted for his success with Arsenal in London, England. James played as an inside forward, as a supporting player for the main strikers. He was famed for the excellent quality of his passing and supreme ball control.

Another video from my recent trip to Scotland. This time at Uddington & Motherwell stations on the WCML, just south of Glasgow. The weather was very hit or miss this day so in some shots you'll notice its pouring, in others its dry again.
Right at the start look out for the LNER Azuma passing towards Glasgow, this was on a driver route refresher run. Also you may notice some very late running TransPennine services. This was due to a major signalling failure earlier in the day near Penrith, which had a substantial knock on effect to all trains heading south across the border into England for the majority of the day.
Includes: ScotRail class 385's, 320's & 318's, TransPennine Express 397's, Avanti West Coast Pendolino & the LNER Azuma I mentioned.

Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Uddingston, a small town in South Lanarkshire. It is on the north side of the River Clyde, about 7 miles south east of Glasgow city centre. Uddingston railway station runs two regular hourly services on the Argyle Line and a third hourly service on the Glasgow Central to Edinburgh Line. Sir James Whyte Black was born on 14 June 1924 in Uddingston. He was a Scottish pharmacologist. Black established the physiology department at the University of Glasgow, where he became interested in the effects of adrenaline on the human heart. He went to work for ICI Pharmaceuticals in 1958 and, while there, developed propranolol, a beta blocker used for the treatment of heart disease. He was also responsible for the development of cimetidine, a H2 receptor antagonist, a drug used in a similar manner to treat stomach ulcers. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1988 for work leading to the development of propranolol and cimetidine. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.

The new town is not a modern built area where you can see giant glass structures ,skyscrapers and tallest towers everywhere, the term New Town is only used here to differentiate this part of the city centre from the decidedly ancient bit across the road!
Edinburgh’s New Town is most definitely worth a long slow walk ????♂️. The architecture is mainly Georgian and is a delight of grand buildings and beautiful squares, all set out within a convenient grid pattern.It’s a place where you can visit some beautiful historic houses and museums as well as very good independent shops, cafes, restaurants and the occasional pub.
The initial plan for Edinburgh’s New Town was approved by the City Council in 1767, and is the largest complete example of town planning from the Georgian period anywhere in the world. Its mixture of classical architecture, grand squares and terraces, gardens and secluded lanes, means that a walk through its streets is a journey back in time to an age of elegance.
ROSE STREET ????:
Rose Street was built from 1770 to 1781 as a secondary street running east to west from St Andrew Square to Charlotte Square on the south side of George Street. Its name Rose represents England as Thistle Street represents Scotland. Originally built as three-storey vernacular rubble houses it was not as grand as its surrounding streets. Built wholly as housing, by 1820 it was becoming a shopping street at ground floor. This change continued further and by the mid 20th century it was totally in shopping use (and also multiple bars). The nature of the street changing drastically in 1972 when multiple blocks were replaced by a standardised design, incorporating a projecting scalloped concrete canopy as part of an organised reconstruction by the Council, designed by Ian Burke Associates.
GEORGE STREET????:
The street takes its name from King George III and connects St Andrew Square in the east with Charlotte Square in the west. It is located on the north side of the Old Town of Edinburgh, to the north of the Princes Street and to the south of Queen Street, running straight along the high point of a ridge.
George Street, as first proposed in 1767 and initially built, was a residential area.However in the Victorian period the houses were replaced by shops, showrooms, banks, small department stores and hotels. A number of the grander of these buildings were designed by the prominent Victorian architect David Bryce, who lived in the street.
George Street in the 21st century remains essentially a Victorian townscape, but the use of many of the commercial buildings has changed to restaurants, coffee shops and bars, with many high quality clothes shops.
