This 4-Day Tour through Bolivia's most magical nature is a top highlight of whole South America!
By travelling from Tupiza up to Uyuni, meaning from south to north, instead of the other way around, you can avoid huge tourist groups since the timing of arrival at all the locations differs and most tourists start in Uyuni since it is more well know.
So, if you want to escape the crowds, travel to Tupiza, start the journey from there and end it in Uyuni!

We booked our salt flats trip with Le Tourre, an agency based in Tupiza. We had avoided the more traditional starting point of Uyuni because the local Bolivian folk had blockaded the roads in protest at the lack of progress after the mayor had promised to build a new bus terminal. We heard it was dangerous and there was a chance we might have got stuck in the town so we travelled from Potosi to Tupiza instead.
Earlier in our travels, at Sucre we had met a Dutch couple, Esmee and Jeff. They too had heard about the protests but like us, they were adamant to see the salt flats not wanting to miss this once in a lifetime opportunity. Jeff and Esmee were keen to a do a two day tour rather then the traditional three night four day tour that most travellers seem to follow. Tracy and I weren’t fussed about the four day itinerary either, we’d had Llama farm overkill in Peru and we could see geyzers later when we reached New Zealand. A plan was hatched and the four of us met in Tupiza at 4am about four days later. To quote the A-Team “the plan came together”, we loved the salt flats, Jeff and Esme were great company, and four of us in the SUV was a bonus, most tours take six.
La Torre had taken care of us and facilitated the trip of a lifetime. The salt flats were amazing and although we spent a lot of time in the jeep, the ultimate destination was worth it. If you want to get to the flats without the faff in between consider a two day tour with La Torre from Tupiza

Ça y'est ! Nous voilà de retour en Bolivie ???????? !
Notre première étape fut la petite ville de Tupiza, perchée à quasiment 3000 m d'altitude, qui sous son rythme de vie plutôt paisible a un cadre digne du Far West américain ???? ???? avec ses pentes parsemées de cactus ???? , ses paysages désertiques, ses rochers aux multiples couleurs ou encore ses canyons miniatures sortis tout droit des films américains ???????? ???? !
Pour souligner encore davantage le côté Far West américain, il est d'usage de partir à la découverte des environs lors d'une virée à cheval ???? mais...sachant que ce n'est toujours pas trop mon truc ???? (et qu'on voulait aussi économiser de l'argent et ne pas avoir à faire une excursion avec d'autres touristes ???? ) on a décidé de parcourir la région à pied ????.
Le moins qu'on puisse dire c'est que la chaleur aride ☀️ et étouffante ????, l'air sec et l'altitude ne nous ont pas facilité la tâche ???? mais on était ravis des superbes paysages rencontrés ???? !

El Sillar, about twelve kilometers ahead, is difficult to describe. The best way to appreciate it is from the height ... go up the hill, along a narrow path, to its top, and go down to the bend in the road that acts as a viewpoint.

Ci sono solo una decina di agenzie (contro le 200 di Uyuni), questo garantisce un esperienza più autentica (e meno affollata). Inoltre il percorso per arrivare a Salar Uyuni è nettamente più bello. In 4 giorni si attraversa la valle dei lama, la ciudad encentada, la laguna Kollpa, laguna bianca, laguna verde, laguna colorata, laguna negra, il deserto di Dali, i geyser Sol de Mañana, il canyon Anaconda. Si passa la notte nel Salar Uyuni in un ostello di sale dalla parte della laguna dove si può vedere uno dei tramonti più belli di sempre riflesso negli spazi infiniti della laguna del salar Uyuni ed anche un'alba altrettanto incredibile nell'Isla Incahuasi (isola dei cactus). Il tutto in una jeep 4x4 in non più di 5 persone. Quattro giorni meravigliosi!
