Dayton, Ohio is one Midwestern town that seldom gets the attention that it should. Less than an hour's drive north of Cincinnati and just 72 miles south of the state's capital, Columbus, Dayton is known for being the 'birthplace of Aviation'.

Even though as you probably learned in grade school, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina was the location where the Wright brothers took their first inaugural flight in 1903, Dayton was the town that Orville and Wilbur called home. Everywhere you turn in Dayton, you'll find little bits of history directly related to the Wright's fascinating story.

Dayton's National Museum of the US Air Force was built in 1923. It has since become the largest military aviation museum in the world (it's also now the oldest), boasting more than 400 aircraft and missiles in its expansive collection.

If airplanes aren't really your thing, Dayton has a wide range of attractions that will be sure to please everyone in your family. From the engaging and kid-friendly Boonshoft Museum of Discovery to the immersive and historically rich SunWatch Indian Village, Dayton is one of the premier destinations in the country if you're looking to expand your knowledge of the world around you.

Situated along the shores of the Greater Miami River, Dayton boasts a thriving arts and culture scene, several world-class restaurants that will leave your taste buds buzzing, and a handful of parks and natural wonders you won't want to miss.

From Wikipedia:
Dayton (/ˈdeɪtən/ (About this soundlisten)) is the sixth-largest city in the state of Ohio and the county seat of Montgomery County.[5] A small part of the city extends into Greene County.[6] The 2020 U.S. census estimate put the city population at 137,644, while Greater Dayton was estimated to be at 814,049 residents. The Combined Statistical Area (CSA) was 1,086,512. This makes Dayton the fourth-largest metropolitan area in Ohio and 73rd in the United States. Dayton is within Ohio's Miami Valley region, 50 miles north of the Greater Cincinnati area.

Ohio's borders are within 500 miles (800 km) of roughly 60 percent of the country's population and manufacturing infrastructure, making the Dayton area a logistical centroid for manufacturers, suppliers, and shippers. Dayton also hosts significant research and development in fields like industrial, aeronautical, and astronautical engineering that have led to many technological innovations. Much of this innovation is due in part to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and its place in the community. With the decline of heavy manufacturing, Dayton's businesses have diversified into a service economy that includes insurance and legal sectors as well as healthcare and government sectors.

Along with defense and aerospace, healthcare accounts for much of the Dayton area's economy. Hospitals in the Greater Dayton area have an estimated combined employment of nearly 32,000 and a yearly economic impact of $6.8 billion.[10] It is estimated that Premier Health Partners, a hospital network, contributes more than $2 billion a year to the region through operating, employment, and capital expenditures. In 2011, Dayton was rated the #3 city in the nation by HealthGrades for excellence in healthcare.

Dayton is also noted for its association with aviation; the city is home to the National Museum of the United States Air Force and is the birthplace of Orville Wright. Other well-known individuals born in the city include poet Paul Laurence Dunbar and entrepreneur John H. Patterson. Dayton is also known for its many patents, inventions, and inventors, most notably the Wright brothers' invention of powered flight. In 2007 Dayton was a part of the top 100 cities in America. In 2008, 2009, and 2010, Site Selection magazine ranked Dayton the #1 mid-sized metropolitan area in the nation for economic development. Also in 2010, Dayton was named one of the best places in the United States for college graduates to find a job.

On Memorial Day of 2019, Dayton was affected by a tornado outbreak, in which a total of 15 tornadoes touched down in the Dayton area. One was a half-mile-wide EF4 that tore through the heart of the city causing significant damage

Dayton, Ohio, USA

Dayton is a city in western Ohio. It’s home to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, with a vast collection of aircraft from early 1900s planes to a space shuttle exhibit. Carillon Historical Park contains a Wright Brothers plane, 19th-century buildings and antique trains. The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery has kids’ science exhibits and a small zoo. International fine art is on view at the Dayton Art Institute.

A PEEK INSIDE SOME VINTAGE CAMPERS ON RT 66

Historic Route 66 brings back images of James Dean, and carefree couples traveling in convertibles across the country – hair blowing and kerchiefs flying into the wind.

Recreating this nostalgia for the past, Vickie Ashcraft (Enchanted Trails owner) has collected and restored six vintage campers and two Hudson automobiles on location at her historic Trading Post and RV Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico. ~ Jill Thompson

EXCLUSIVE! Adventure | Abandoned Tunnel in Dayton, Ohio

We discovered a hidden abandoned underground tunnel near Downtown Dayton, Ohio. After we filmed 2 other long-forgotten tunnels in downtown Dayton we have been getting tips about an underground sidewalk system in Dayton, Ohio. We believe most of these stories to be myths but that doesn't stop us from searching for answers for these hidden tunnels. Our tunnel search led us to the Fridgedair Plant site that closed in 1980 and was demolished many years later. The site consisted of a factory complex split by railroad tracks. The complex east of the tracks was demolished sometime between 1994 and 2000. The factory buildings west of the tracks were demolished in 2009. The entrance has been welded shut since with no once able to enter unless you happen to be pretty skinny. The area is scheduled to be developed with the help of the city which is just another example of how Dayton's City Management is turning things around.

After squeezing into the small opening we were amazed that there were no signs that anyone else had tried in all the years since the plants were demolished. What we found was a very muddy tunnel lined with steel supports for utilities such as steam. After a couple hundred feet the tunnel abruptly ends. It was filled in. We still have hopes of finding a large underground sidewalk system somewhere underneath the Gem City.

Beavercreek Ohio a safe place to live

Beavercreek, Ohio is a suburban community located just east of Dayton. It is a thriving city with a population of over 46,000 people. The city has been ranked among the top 100 best places to live in the United States by Money Magazine.
One of the factors that contribute to the high livability of Beavercreek is its safety. The city has a low crime rate compared to the national average, and residents generally feel secure and comfortable in their community. The city has a well-resourced police department that works closely with the community to ensure safety.
According to data from NeighborhoodScout, Beavercreek's crime rate is lower than 53% of all cities in the United States. The overall crime rate in Beavercreek is 17 per 1,000 residents, which is significantly lower than the national average of 28 per 1,000 residents. Property crime is more common than violent crime, but both types of crime are below the national average.
Beavercreek's police department is committed to keeping the community safe. The department has a community policing program that encourages officers to get to know residents and business owners in the community. Officers are also involved in community events and work with local organizations to help prevent crime. The police department also has a Crime Prevention Unit that provides safety education and resources to residents.
In addition to the police department's efforts, Beavercreek has a strong sense of community. The city has a Neighborhood Watch program that encourages residents to be vigilant and look out for each other. The city also has a Citizens Police Academy, which gives residents an opportunity to learn about law enforcement and the role of the police department in the community.
Overall, Beavercreek is considered to be a safe place to live. However, it's important to note that no city is entirely free of crime. Residents should take normal safety precautions such as locking doors and windows, being aware of their surroundings, and reporting suspicious activity to the police.
