Trévoux, France
In AD 943, the treaty of Verdun divided up the empire of Charlemagne. The river Saône became the frontier between France and the Empire. It is thanks to this border location that Trévoux gained its particular political status.
From the 13th century, the Trévoux river toll became important, and the town built a castle and walls.
On the 30th of June 1417, the local baron issued a decree allowing the local Jewish population to continue to study the Talmud, contrary to the decision taken in Chambéry in January 1417 as a result of which Jewish books had been seized and burned.
In 1523, the French king François the 1st confiscated the Dombes region and founded a parliament for the region in Lyon.
At the end of the 17th century, two important sovereign princes, Anne-Marie Louise of Orléans, Duchess of Montpensier known as la Grande Mademoiselle, and her successor Louis-Auguste of Bourbon, duke of Maine, raised two monuments which are still notable in the landscape - the Montpensier hospital and the Palace of the Dombes Parliament.
In 1560, the Dombes region fell to the Bourbons. The town became rich as the capital of Dombes principality and seat of its parliament from 1697 to 1771. The town is also known at this time for a dictionnary, printed there from 1704 to 1771 by the Jesuits.
In 1762, the principalit of the Dombes was definitively absorbed into France.
The town was a sub-prefecture of Ain until 1926.
From the end of the 19th century until the 1950s, Trévoux was the global capital of the manufacture of synthetic diamonds.

Our return trip. The holiday continues. Set off from Port Grimaud 0945 this morning 290 miles to Kanopee village campsite Trevoux just north of Lyon.
A lot warmer here. 35c on the way .

AmaWaterways AmaCello | Day 4 - Oingt and Beaujolais Wine | Essence of Burgundy & Provence Cruise
In this episode we are onboard the AmaWaterways AmaCello for our river cruise through Burgundy and Provence in Macon.
For our morning excursion we visit the Cluny Abbey.
In the afternoon during our wine excursion we visit the medieval, hilltop village of Oingt in the Beaujolais region of France. We finish our tour with a wine tour and tasting at a family owned and operated vineyard overlooking Oingt.
Later in the evening we had a seven course dinner at AmaWaterways The Chef’s Table onboard the AmaCello and enjoyed a night-time sailing into Lyon.
This cruise was filmed on October 6th to 13th, 2022 on the AmaWaterways Essence of Burgundy and Provence River Cruise itinerary.
I’ll be releasing a full ship tour of the AmaCello in a future episode, however I do feature a French Balcony cabin tour in this video.

Let’s just say the south of France did not disappoint and we captured some amazing moments that we wanted to share with you. It’s one of our favourite conventions and there are so many good bits!
The French Acro Convention, located in Sainte-Eulalie-en-born, celebrated its 10 year anniversary this year. And to mark the occasion it was 2 days longer than usual. The combination of the lake, the sunsets, training amongst the trees and being surrounded by good friends make this one outstanding acrobatic convention.
Scott made this video with our new minimal travel tech - it was mainly shot on an iPhone with a £50 gimbal. The video came out amazing, but we had quite a microphone fail ????♀️ Apologies for the awful audio.... it makes us cringe every time we watch it back.

Also in other news, a week before our big trip we were testing our drone (it had been playing up recently) and before we realised what was happening, it malfunctioned, flew off and was never to be seen again...no flight log, no homing....nothing...gone! I guess it flew off to join the other parrots in Platt Fields Park...
We wondered whether to replace the drone because it’s a lot of money just before a big trip (and Parrot wouldn’t replace it without the non existent flight log either!), but we knew we’d probably regret not having it at some point. The beach shots are some of our favourites and it was worth replacing the drone for these alone.
