ALGARVE, PORTUGAL | 10 Incredible Places To Visit In The Algarve

The Algarve is the southernmost region of continental Portugal. Thanks to its year-round sunny weather and beautiful rugged coastline, it’s one of the most popular holiday destinations in all of Europe. In this video we highlight 10 diverse places to visit in the Algarve:

10. Sagres
Sitting at the westernmost tip of the Algarve, Sagres is the wildest and most untamed destination. Windswept, barren landscapes, towering cliffs, and rough waters are what set this place apart.

9. Portimão
Visit the Portimão museum if you want to learn more about its fishing and canning tradition, or go to the medieval Fort of Santa Catarina de Ribamar for panoramic views. But the biggest draw is undoubtedly Portimão’s nearby Praia da Rocha.

8. Faro & Ria Formosa
From cobblestone streets and cozy squares to a wide range of lagoons and wetlands, Faro boasts a blend of city and nature activities. We really enjoyed a boat tour in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, which is home to canals, marshland and small islands.

☑️ Book a boat tour:

7. Aljezur & West Coast Beaches
With wide-open beaches and sheer sea cliffs, the West Coast of the Algarve is a true hidden gem. It’s also another prime destination for surfing. We recommend Arrifana Beach if you’re a beginner or intermediate surfer.

6. Fishermen’s Village Ferragudo
With its white houses reaching down to the river, walking around this authentic fishing town is an experience in itself. But Praia Grande is also a great place to relax and enjoy watersports.

5. Lagos & Ponta da Piedade
Lagos has a wide range of cafés and restaurants to choose from, but also some historical sights, such as castle walls, churches, and a fort. Combine this with its spectacular coastline, filled with steep cliffs, caves, and grottoes, and you’ve got one of the most scenic destinations in the Algarve.

???? Watch Lagos video:

4. Serra de Monchique
Apart from beautiful beaches, the Algarve is also home to a rolling mountain range. The town of Monchique lies in pristine nature, surrounded by lush green forests. It’s an idyllic and authentic mountain town with sweeping vistas and a network of nature trails.

☑️ Book a tour to Monchique and Silves with Algarve Jipe Safari:

3. Silves
This historic town cascades down the hill, flowing out from beneath the beautiful Silves Castle (Castelo de Silves). Enjoy your time learning about the town’s history inside the castle walls as well as on the cobbled streets surrounding it.

2. The 7 Hanging Valleys
This 12km out-and-back hike takes between 4 to 6 hours to complete if you do the full route, and includes views of the Atlantic ocean as well as limestone rock formations. There is some elevation gain and loss as you climb up and down each of the valleys, but overall the hike is easy to moderate.

1. Benagil Cave
The Benagil Cave is a world-class natural attraction in the Algarve. Although it’s only a short distance from Benagil Beach, you still need a kayak, stand up paddle board, or guided boat tour to reach the caves safely.

SINTRA, PORTUGAL | How To Visit Sintra As A Day Trip From Lisbon (Travel Guide)

Sintra is located 30 kms to the west of Lisbon, in the center of Portugal. Home to ancient castles, extravagant palaces, and beautiful natural scenery, Sintra is an absolute must-visit. In this video we’ll show you how to visit Sintra as a day trip from Lisbon, including how to get there and the highlights that you can’t miss.

???? Getting to Sintra from Lisbon
The cheapest way to get to Sintra is by train. The train leaves from the Rossio Train Station in downtown Lisbon once or twice per hour. It takes about 45 mins to get to Sintra. We took the train at 9 AM, which allowed us enough time to visit the three main highlights. It is best to leave as early as possible, however, the castles only open their doors at 10 AM. Once you arrive at the train station, you will have many options to move around the town. You can either take a bus, a taxi, tuk tuk, or walk.

???? Stop 1: Quinta da Regaleira
How to get there: 30 mins walking / 10 mins by taxi / 434 bus to Sintra Town + walk another 12 mins
Time needed: 2 hours

Sitting at the outskirts of Sintra’s historic center, the Quinta da Regaleira is easily walkable from the train station. It takes about 30 mins to walk there and you have nice views of the town center, flowers, and the Sintra National Palace on the way. Quinta da Regaleira was mainly designed by the Italian architect Luigi Manini in the late 1800s and is a shockingly beautiful estate. You can walk around a romantic palace, chapel, and a lush park that features the famous Initiatic Well, grottoes, and towers. We found the gardens especially peaceful. We recommend visiting this spot first because it’s less touristic and you’ll find fewer crowds during the morning.

???? Stop 2: Castelo dos Mouros
How to get there: 16 mins by taxi / 434 bus from train station
Time needed: 2 hours

Located on a high rocky mountain above the town, the Moorish Castle is a spectacular site. To get here, we walked back to the train station and caught the 434 bus. With the bus ticket you can hop on and off as you please for the day. Alternatively, you can also take a tuk tuk or taxi from the center, which will save you more time at the ruins. The fortification itself was built in the 10th century during the time the Moors occupied the area. Its strategic position helped defend both the surrounding territory and the maritime access routes to the city of Lisbon. It is fun walking on the castle walls and taking in the unique views over the town and the Atlantic Ocean.

???? Stop 3: Pena Palace
How to get there: 3 mins by taxi / 15 mins walk
Time needed: 2.5 hours

For your last main stop of the day we recommend the famous Pena Palace and Park. It’s only a 15 mins walk from the Moorish Castle and it’s less crowded at the end of the day. This is the most famous attraction in all of Sintra for a good reason. The Palace stands in a 200 hectare park, filled with colorful flowers, small ponds, and beautiful viewpoints. Once you step inside the palace itself, you’ll be amazed by the blend of vibrant colors and beautiful architecture. You can also explore the interior and get an idea for the history of this palace, which once served as a holiday residence for the Portuguese royal family.

Visit UNESCO Tomar: Things to See & Do in Tomar, Portugal

Tomar, Portugal is one of our favorite cities in Portugal. Actually a top 10 on our list. Here is a little advice on what to see and how to get there from Lisbon.
1. Convento do Cristo: UNESCO World Heritage site with one of the most beautiful chapels in the world. It is circular (16 sides actually) and allowed for knights to ride their horses up to mass. It was used by the Knights Templar from the 12h to the 16th century. The chapel inside is amazing. We even have a couple extra videos to show you its magnificance.
2. Igreja de Sao Joao Baptista: John the Baptist Church is the one you see on the video. It is on Praca da Republica.
3. Museo dos Fosforos: The Match Museum. Why not see the largest collection of matches in Europe. Just please don't smoke inside :)
4. The Festa dos Tabuleiros: This festival held every four years sees virgin girls dressed in white balancing huge trays on their heads being helped by non-required to be virgin men helping out. Great to see in person if you are there.

Escape to Tomar: Portugal's Timeless Town of Wonders

Hey everyone, I'm excited to take you on a journey to Tomar, Portugal, a charming town that is home to one of the most beautiful and historic sites in the world - the Convent of Christ.

Did you know that Tomar is a small town with a population of just over 20,000 people? Despite its size, it is packed with fascinating history and culture, and the Convent of Christ is the highlight of any visit.

As I explored this stunning UNESCO World Heritage site, I couldn't help but be amazed by the beautiful architecture and intricate art that can be found within the convent walls. The Knights Templar, a military order of knights that played a significant role in the Crusades, founded the Convent of Christ in the 12th century, and their legacy is still visible today.

Tomar is a place that truly comes alive with history, and the Convent of Christ is just the beginning. The town is also home to several other historic sites, including the Castle of Tomar and the Aqueduct of Pegões. I was blown away by the rich culture and unique experiences that Tomar has to offer.

Whether you're a history buff or simply looking for a unique travel destination, Tomar is an absolute must-see. Don't just take my word for it, though - Tomar has been recognized as one of the top tourist destinations in Portugal, with over 210,000 visitors a year.

So come along with me on this journey through Tomar, and discover the enchanting beauty and fascinating history of this incredible town. I guarantee it will be a trip you won't forget! #TomarPortugal #ConventofChrist #TravelHistory #KnightsTemplar #PortugalTravel #UNESCOHeritage #TravelVlog

Tomar Portugal

Former headquarters of the Order of the Templars, Tomar is a city of great charm, for its artistic and cultural wealth. The maximum exponent is in the Convento de Cristo, one of the most important works of the Renaissance in Portugal.

Templar castle:
Convent of Christ:

Whatever the reason for visiting the city, going up to the Templar castle and discovering the monumental work of the Convento de Cristo is essential. Charola is the oldest part. This Templar oratory was built in the 19th century. XII, as well as the castle, which at the time was the most modern and advanced military device in the kingdom, inspired by the fortifications of the Holy Land. It was transformed into a main chapel during the reconstruction ordered by D. Manuel I, in the 19th century. XVI, when the complex gained the architectural splendor that is still preserved today and which justified its classification as a World Heritage Site.

From the Convent, you can walk down the Mata dos Sete Montes to the historic center. Going down the road, we see the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, a small Renaissance jewel, the work of the Portuguese João de Castilho who also worked at the Convent.

Next, you have to visit Tomar. The oldest, medieval urban area is organized in a cross, oriented by the cardinal points and having a convent at each end. Praça da República, with the Mother Church dedicated to São João Baptista, marks the center, with the hill of Castelo and Convento de Cristo to the west. In the streets around you can find traditional shops and the oldest cafe where you can enjoy the delights of local pastries: almond and chila queijadas and the traditional Slices de Tomar, made only with egg yolks and cooked in a double boiler in a very special pot, invented by a city coppersmith in the middle of the last century.

To the south, the Convento de São Francisco, where you can currently visit the curious Museum of Matches and, to the north, the former Convento da Anunciada. To the east, on the site of the current Levada Museum, we see the old mills and mills that worked with the force of the Nabão River that runs through the city. On one of the banks, there is the Convent of Santa Iria and in that direction, a little further away, the Church of Santa Maria do Olival, where the tombs of several Templars are located, including that of Gualdim Pais, the first master, who died in 1195.

The whole city was organized from this nucleus, also the stage of one of the biggest traditional events, the Festa dos Tabuleiros.

In addition to having witnessed the struggles of the Christian Reconquest, in the century. XII, Tomar preserves an interesting testimony of the Hebrew religion, the ancient Synagogue of the century. XV, today the Luso-Hebrew Museum of Abraão Zacuto, dedicated to the distinguished fourteenth century astronomer and mathematician. Located on the old Rua da Judiaria, it has a valuable documentary and epigraphic collection. Note the holes that can be seen in each corner and that indicate the placement of clay jars on the wall to increase the acoustic conditions of the space.

To the points of interest already mentioned, there is the Núcleo de Arte Contemporânea, where the collection of one of the most important Portuguese art historians of the century is kept. XX, Professor José-Augusto França.

To rest from the cultural tour, there is nothing like a break at Mouchão Park. It is a cool place, where you can see the Mouchão Wheel, a wooden hydraulic wheel. It is an ex-libris of the city and evokes the times when the mills, mills and cultivation areas along the river contributed to Tomar's economic prosperity.

But there are also reasons to stroll nearby, such as Castelo de Bode, one of the largest reservoirs in the country, where you can take a quiet cruise with lunch on board or opt for a variety of water sports. Also like the small islet of the Tagus River where the Castle of Almourol is located or the riverside town of Dornes, for those who want to deepen their visit to the Templar places in the region. For a more complete itinerary, we suggest the World Heritage Tours - “In the Heart of Portugal”.

Tomar, Portugal: From Knights Templar to Cultural Heritage | Travel Vlog

A day of exploring in Tomar, Portugal. Tomar is one of the top destinations to visit in Portugal and it is famous for the Convent of Christ (Convento de Cristo), which is one of the finest national monuments in Portugal. Tomar was the religious home of the Knights Templar (1119-1312) and later the Order of Christ (1319-1834). So it was originally a 12th-century Templar stronghold that was turned into the Knights of the Order of Christ in the 14 century.

TOMAR, PORTUGAL - Explore Market, Menus, Netflix Magic

OUR LAST TOMAR VLOG and it's just Mandy today! This was our first holiday from housesitting since July 2021, and we both got sick in the first few days in Tomar! ????????

Totally different symptoms - I threw up but was ok 24 hours later... poor Lee caught a summer bug that was doing the rounds and it took him longer to recover!

In this video you'll see:

Tomar market
Photography museum
Carne de porco a alentejana
Transformation of Mata Nacional dos Sete Montes for Netflix

I hope you enjoy this series of Tomar videos

Convent of Christ in Tomar, Portugal ( Part 1 outside views.) by NL Travel Vlog.

The Convent of Christ is part of a set of monuments that also includes the Castle Templar with medieval origin was built on a site that was originally used for Roman worship. This monument served the Knights of the Temple before left for the Crusades. Later, with the extinction of the Templar order, it was the seat of the Knights of Christ who would support the Portuguese discoveries.
With more than seven centuries of history expressed in its architectural ensemble, art styles are so varied, ranging from Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline and Renaissance.
Heritage of Humanity since 1983, it is a place full of history and symbols that have marked the western culture and deserves to be visited.
