This is NOT a promotional video. I pay for all of my flights and hotels (and I always tell you how much!) so I can be as honest and impartial as possible. I do not receive any special treatment that wouldn’t otherwise be publicly accessible, in fact, the hotels and airlines have no idea about my visit and that's the way I like it!

Lusaka City, Zambia By Drone. Cairo Road & National Heroes Stadium

Lusaka City, Zambia By Drone Cairo Road & Heroes Stadium

Drone footage from my recent trip to Lusaka Zambia in July 2019. Locations include:

0.01 National Heroes Stadium
Dedicated and refers to the 1993 Zambia Football team who lost their lives in a sad plane crash in April 1993. The plane was carrying most of the Zambian national football team to a FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Senegal in Dakar. All 25 passengers and five crew members were killed. This spectacular stadium is in the Chibombo District on outskirts of east Lusaka. It is mostly used for football including the Zambia National Football Team. The stadium holds 60,000 spectators. Lusaka National Heroes Stadium opened in 2014 and was funded and built by Shanghai Construction Company. It took 3 years to build and cost an estimated US$94 million.

1:31 Levy Mall
Boasts the biggest Mall in Zambia with over 70 stores. It is designed and constructed from mostly steel frame and cladding.

1:44 Society House
The original building was a concrete brutalist 20-storey building constructed during Zambia’s golden decade of the 1970s when the copper industry was booming. By the late 1990s, a fire in the building left it uninhabitable. The building was left empty for 15 years. On the 27th May 2011, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the Society House site in celebration of a fully restored $100m redevelopment of Society House. The buildings is now one of the most spectacular buildings in Lusaka. The architects retained the original sense of form while complimenting new appropriate geometries and materials expressing the form. Hilton Garden Inn currently occupies the building.

2:15 Findeco House
Currently the tallest building in Lusaka and is an iconic landmark buildings on the end of Cairo Road. Completed in 1974, it is 90m high and has 23 floors. This concrete design is a brutalist style building has a concrete structure that is amazingly supported on one large column, at the base. It also has an open balcony towards the top.

2:46 Cairo Road
The heart of retail, business and services in the center of Lusaka. It was part of a proposed road from Cape Town to Cairo during the late 1800s. It is now part of the Great North Road which is a major road of Zambia.
