4K Town of Sredets from above

#DiscoverBulgaria #Sredets #aerial #Bulgaria #travel

Sredets (Bulgarian: Средец [srɛˈdɛt͡s]) is a town in Burgas Province in southeastern Bulgaria. It is located near Lake Mandrensko and the northern slopes of Strandzha. Sredets is the administrative centre of Sredets Municipality.

Sredets Point on Smith Island, Antarctica is named after the town.

The Roman fortress of Kaleto, located 2 km southwest of Sredets, was constructed at the end of the fifth and beginning of sixth century AD. Under the First Bulgarian Empire, the fortress became known as Potamukastel (Bulgarian: Потамукастел). Potamukastel was destroyed in the 11th century, but later rebuilt in the 12th century AD. The fortress was abandoned during Ottoman rule of Bulgaria, and the population of Potamukastel resettled at the location of the modern town and founded the village of Karabunar (Bulgarian: Карабунар) (black well in Turkish).

Karabunar is first mentioned in 1595, and is later found in Ottoman tax registers from 1676–1731. King Charles XII of Sweden is known to have stayed overnight in the village in 1713 en route to Constantinople and St. Sophronius of Vratsa worked as a teacher in Karabunar in 1792–1793. Russian Army data from 1827 mentions it as a purely Bulgarian village and it was visited by Vasil Levski in 1868. During the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–78, the area was occupied by the Russian 93rd Irkutsk Infantry Regiment on 16 February 1878. Karabunar became part of the autonomous province of Eastern Rumelia after the war and was annexed by the Principality of Bulgaria in 1885.

The village was renamed Sredets on 14 August 1934. Under Communist rule, the village was renamed Grudovo on 1 June 1950 in honour of Todor Grudov, a leader of the Communist September Uprising of 1923 and former mayor of the village. Grudovo was granted the status of town on 6 February 1960 and, following the fall of Communism in Bulgaria, on 23 January 1993, the town was renamed Sredets.

Glozhene Monastery - Bulgaria by Drone 4K -

The Glozhene Monastery (Bulgarian:
is an Eastern Orthodox monastery located on the northern slopes of Stara Planina in Bulgaria, near the village of Glozhene and the Cherni Vit river, 12 km from Teteven.

According to the legend, the monastery was built in the 13th century (1224), when Kievan Rus knyaz Georgi Glozh settled in the area with Ivan Asen II's approval. The knyaz founded a monastery carrying the name of St George, whose icon he had brought with himself. The icon then disappeared numerous times only to be found on a hill not far from the village of Glozhene, which was interpreted by the monks as a divine sign to move the monastery there. This was eventually done near the end of the 14th century. The two monasteries existed in parallel for a short time, being connected by a tunnel to each other, but the tunnel, used many times by Vasil Levski during his secret missions, was destroyed by an earthquake in 1928.

The monastery church was erected after the creation of the monastery in the 14th century, but was destroyed by another earthquake in 1913 along with its frescoes. The modern church was constructed in 1951 on the grounds of the old one.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why do so Many Motorcycle Travelers prefer to Avoid Bulgaria?

!!! Important advice about traveling around Bulgaria!!!

Bulgaria is part of the European Union, right? Well...technically it is but the reality is a bit different. In this video, I will tell you the most important things that you need to know before you come to Bulgaria.

At the beginning of the video, I told you that we are in the European Union but not exactly. Let me explain to you what I mean by saying it. Just because our government decided that we need to join Europe doesn't mean that everybody will accept or like the idea.

By default, we, Bulgarians, always question everything, and it was exactly the same with all new rules and regulations. With a few words, most of the things were left in the grey zone. They exist, but no one worries about them.

This was fine for us, but when a foreigner, rider, or driver comes to travel around Bulgaria they found it, I will use the diplomatic word Different but the original reaction is holy shit!

The Marvelous Bridges, Bulgaria By Drone 4K /

The Marvelous Bridges or Wonderful Bridges (Bulgarian: Чудни[те] мостове, Chudni[te] mostove) are natural arches in the Rhodope Mountains of southern Bulgaria. They are located in the karst valley of the Erkyupriya River in the Western Rhodopes at 1,450 metres (4,760 ft) metres above sea level, at the foot of Persenk Peak.
The bridges were formed by the erosive activity of the once larger Erkyupryia River. It transformed the marble clefts into a deep-water cave, the ceiling of which eroded through time and collapsed, possibly during an earthquake. Geologists suggest that the water carried the debris away.

As a result, the two remaining bridge-shaped outcrops remained. The larger one (upstream) is 15 metres at its widest and 96 metres long, and shaped by three vaulted arches, the largest of which is 45 metres high and 40 metres wide. The river flows under the middle-sized arch. The larger Wonderful Bridge is passable under the vaults, where birds nest in the marble clefts. The smaller bridge is 200 metres downstream. It is impassable to tourists, 60 metres in length, with a total height of 50 metres, 30 metres at the highest point of the arch. A third, small and inaccessible, formation follows, the entrance to a pothole where the river's waters disappear underground, reaching a sump after 3 km.

The adjacent area is wooded, with century-old conifers, mainly spruces. Many karst caves are known nearby, but most of them are undeveloped and unsuitable for tourist visits. However, both bridges can be crossed on secure trails. Two tourist huts are located nearby. The site can be reached by an asphalt road and is about 30 km from the closest town, Chepelare.

The Wonderful Bridges are included among the 100 National Touristic Places of the Bulgarian Touristic Union.

Dangerous Tooth Eco-trail
Hello people, today we are in a wonderful and quiet place near the town of Teteven. I wanted you to know that the path upstairs is photographed in its entirety, whoever is interested in watching it. The starting point of our trip is Sofia. The road to here was extremely pleasant and took 1 hour and 30 minutes. There is a place to leave your car. The eco-trail is not suitable for children under 7 in my opinion, because there are narrow and dangerous sections. The road is quite rocky and you have to wear hiking boots, it is NOT possible with sneakers. Difficulty level 6 out of 10 in my opinion. Please keep this place clean.
