Destrehan Plantation Tour with Dianne Honore, who is a descendant of Jean Noel Destrehan, is a tour you DONT want to miss when visiting New Orleans. Located along the great river road, Dianne takes you through what it was like to like to be a house slave, what the life of a field slave was like, cultural influences that affected the flavors of food in Louisiana, and even does a musical demonstration with a real Mardi Gra Indian about what the sounds of music in the fields was like. Scary places in Connecticut

Some very scary places in Connecticut. This list has some of the most haunted, paranormal activity positive, places.

Today we drive thru business areas as well as some of the neighborhoods of Bristol CT. April 2021 Enjoy the ride Subscribe

Bristol is a suburban city located in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States, 20 miles (32 km) southwest-west of Hartford. The city is also 120 miles southwest from Boston, and approximately 100 miles northeast of New York City. As of the 2010 census, the population of the city was 60,477.[2]

Bristol is best known as the home of ESPN, whose central studios are in the city. Bristol is also home to Lake Compounce (1846), America's oldest continuously operating theme park. Bristol was known as a clock-making city in the 19th century, and is home to the American Clock & Watch Museum. For silver enthusiasts, Bristol is also known as the site of the former American Silver Company and its predecessor companies (1851–1935).[4][5]

Bristol's nickname is the Mum City, because it was once a leader in chrysanthemum production and still holds an annual Bristol Mum Festival.[6]

In 2010, Bristol was ranked 84th on Money magazine's Best Places to Live.[7] In 2013, Hartford Magazine ranked Bristol as Greater Hartford's top municipality in the Best Bang for the Buck category.

The Homestead Madison, Connecticut

The Homestead, Madison, Connecticut.
Discover more about The Homestead, Madison, Connecticut from Ralph Guardiano, owner of The Homestead.
- The Homestead in Madison, Connecticut, has been in my family for over 30 years. It's three generations of my family, my mom, my daughter, and myself, that are running it. We have 12 rooms. Each room has a private bath. Some of the rooms have private entrances. It's really just a very nice peaceful property. A property that we want people, to sort of disconnect. Disconnect from all the things, that are going fast in life, and reconnect. Reconnect with our family, reconnect with themselves, reconnect with a book, just take a step back. We've got 12 unique rooms. No two rooms are alike. It's a bit eclectic in a fun kind of way. I'm fortunate enough to travel all over, and I collect a lot of different things, and I bring them back. You never know what's gonna show up in the house. But each of the rooms, because I travel so much, I was really particular about, how we were going to appoint the rooms. We have 1,000 thread count sheets, really comfortable beds, very soft fluffy towels, Italian porcelain in all the bathrooms on the floors, just wanted to make it so it was comfortable, so people could kinda retreat here. Even plugs, international plugs and charging stations, two in each room right beside the bed. So, Madison, Connecticut is located central, between New York and Boston. Right on the shoreline of Long Island Sound, so we have really the best of all worlds. We've got easy commutes to New York and Boston, Newport, The Cape, Mystic. Lot's of things to do in the area, and if you particularly like the beach, we have four beaches in this town. We have bicycles all set up to pick up any kinds of baguettes, and wine, and cheese, and then go off onto a nice picnic, in the area on the beaches or whatever. The Homestead is set up in a unique manner. We've not only got the 12 room and some common areas, we also have a hair salon. It's a really perfect set-up, for people getting ready for a wedding. The bridesmaids and the bride, but also we're putting in hot shaves, so for the groomsmen, they can come and kind of get together, before the wedding, and have the hot shave and so on. We're getting those kind of bookings. The other bookings we're getting, are group meetings midweek. Which is really very nice. We didn't expect that at all, and then we're getting a lot of travelers, coming out of New York, just for a one night or two night stay, to see the leaves or to enjoy the beach. It's been really kind of amazing. We've only been open a few months, but it's going really, really well. The feedback has been fantastic. For anyone interested in a nice retreat, some bicycles, getaway, please come to Madison, Connecticut. We'd love to have ya.

RV Camping in Texas Hill Country

Texas Hill Country -- RV Camping

The Two Tired Teachers give you an overview of the Hill Country of Texas. The parks that will be featured in the next month or two are Lost Maples State Park, Guadalupe River State Park, the Hill Country State Natural Area, South Llano River State Park, Meridian State Park, and McGown Valley COE Park on Lake Whitney.

All of these are very popular places to stay. We were there in the fall and January, and the parks had very few empty spots. Lost Maples is a small park. We strongly suggest that you make your reservations early to get a site at Lost Maples. That is even more important if you are going to Lost Maples in the fall.

Guadalupe River is an extremely popular park in the summer. The river is great for tubing or canoeing or kayaking. Lots of people enjoy Guadalupe State Park for the summer water activities. At any time of the year, it's a pretty park.

We had our first visit to the Hill Country Natural Area. It was surprisingly full when we camped in an equestrian site there. It has miles and miles of trails. We enjoyed biking on some of those, but we do want you to use caution if you are there in warmer weather when snakes are active. Of course, there are rattlesnakes in that area.

This was our second visit to South Llano River State Park. The first thing you need to know is that the park isn't in Llano, TX. It's in Junction, just off of Interstate 10. It's a pretty park. Once again, we do suggest you have reservations if you plan on camping there.

One of our favorite parks is Meridian State Park. This was our fourth visit to the park, and our first video of the park. It's a small park, but it is another popular one.

Finally, we visited an Army Corps of Engineers Park when we were at Lake Whitney this time. We stayed at McGown Valley COE Park. It's one of many COE parks around Lake Whitney. We should mention that Lake Whitney State Park is also in the area. Since it is relatively close to the Metroplex, reservations are recommended.

Ok Slip Falls! ADK'S!

Check out this 6.7-mile out-and-back trail near North River, New York. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 2 h 59 min to complete. This is a very popular area for birding, hiking, and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are March through October. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

The trail to OK Slip Falls in the Hudson Gorge Wilderness is open to the public. The three-mile hike leads to an overlook that provides a scenic view of the falls.

The parking area for the trailhead is located on the south side of Route 28, approximately 7.5 miles east of the community of Indian Lake. The trailhead itself is on the north side of Route 28, 0.2 miles west of the parking area. The trail also provides access to Ross, Whortleberry and Big Bad Luck Ponds. Approximately a half mile from the trailhead hikers should turn right onto the trail to OK Slip Falls. Follow the trail another 2.5 miles to the overlook on the east side of the OK Slip Gorge.

OK Slip Falls is considered one of the highest falls in the Adirondacks and its waters flow into the Hudson River near the center of the Hudson Gorge.

Users report that the trail down to the bottom of the waterfall is not suited for beginners. There are ropes to help guide users down, but it is very dangerous and should only be completed by experienced individuals. Please practice caution. There is also little cell service in the area, so downloading the map ahead of time is recommended.
