Paraty was one of those romantic locations, south of Rio on the Costa Verde, a gem dating back to Brazil’s colonial times. Around five hundred kilometres north of Rio and deep within the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, is a most remarkable place. Ouro Preto was discovered at the end of the seventeenth century by Portuguese gold prospectors who discovered ‘black gold’ that changed colour due to its iron content. São Paulo is one of the mega cities of the twenty first century and with a population of twenty million it is the economic heart of Brazil. The railway helped to transport cotton and later coffee, and its large station, with British-designed clock tower, became an important symbol. Brazil is synonymous with sunshine, samba and exotic nature, a dream destination full of both adventure and constant fun!

Gramado is a city marked by many beauties, possessing exuberant natural wealth, being the largest tourist hub in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and one of the most important in Brazil.
The city stands out as a center of major events, in addition to hosting one of the most traditional film festivals in Latin America every year: the Brazilian and Latin Film Festival, popularly called the Gramado Film Festival or just Gramado Festival, during which Kikito prizes are distributed. Central do Brasil, located in downtown Rio de Janeiro, is an important region that connects several modes of mass transportation.
At Central do Brasil there are two bus terminals, a train station and a subway station.
These transports connect, mainly, the Center of Rio with neighborhoods of the North Zone, West Zone and other neighboring cities of the Baixada Fluminense.
It can be said that Central do Brasil is the main entrance of the working class in the city.
A little of history...
In 1855 the church of Santana was demolished in order to build the D. Pedro II train station on the site. The locomotives that left from there united the most prosperous provinces of the Empire: Rio, São Paulo and Minas that traded, among other goods, mainly coffee and milk.
In 1858, the inaugural voyage was carried out with Dom Pedro II and his family as passengers. The route was: Rio de Janeiro to Queimados, in the Baixada Fluminense, 47 km. The Central's initial fleet consisted of 10 locomotives, 40 passenger wagons and 100 freight wagons.
Construction of Central do Brasil
The building that housed the old building was demolished. And there, in the early 1930s, the building was erected with a large station for the expansion of the railway system, as well as the passage of Avenida Presidente Vargas.
The building was rebuilt to impress. Vargas' main intention was to show a modern federal capital.
The famous Central do Brasil clock (which is from 1943) is bigger than Big Ben, from London, England. The English specimen measures seven meters, while the Brazilian is 10 meters high on each side. At 135 meters high, the building was once the tallest reinforced concrete structure in the world. However, it is rare to see it working properly.
In 1997, the station was the setting for the film Central do Brasil. The work was nominated for an Oscar for best foreign film in 1998. The curious thing is that the name “Central do Brasil” came to be used definitively after the film was released. Previously it was common to see people still referring to the station as “D. Pedro II ”.

Taquara é um município da Região Metropolitana de Porto Alegre, no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, no Brasil. É um município de colonização predominantemente alemã localizada na Encosta Inferior do Nordeste.
Até a chegada dos primeiros europeus à região, no século XVI, a mesma era habitada pelos índios carijós.[5] O território de Taquara fez parte da sesmaria concedida em 1814 a Antônio Borges de Almeida Leães, que foi vendida em 20 de junho de 1845 para Tristão José Monteiro e Jorge Eggers. No ano seguinte, em 4 de setembro de 1846, o território passou a ser propriedade exclusiva de Tristão Monteiro, quando iniciou-se o processo de colonização alemã e outras etnias, através da Colônia de Santa Maria do Mundo Novo, formada pelas famílias:

A colônia dividia-se em três seções: Baixa Santa Maria (hoje Taquara), Média Santa Maria (hoje Igrejinha) e Alta Santa Maria (hoje Três Coroas). Foi na Média Santa Maria que Tristão Monteiro construiu a primeira casa de alvenaria do vale, a chamada Casa de Pedra. Esta casa foi construída para instalar a capatazia e o armazém de abastecimento dos primeiros colonos e do pessoal que procedia a medição das terras do vale.
Em 24 de setembro de 1880 foi instalada a 1º Comarca de Taquara. O município surgiu com a Lei Provincial 1.568, de 17 de abril de 1886. A emancipação de Taquara sucedeu em 17 de abril de 1886, com o nome de Taquara do Mundo Novo. Mais tarde, através do Decreto Estadual 1.404, de 10 de dezembro de 1908, a vila de Taquara recebeu o título de cidade.

A história de Taquara se encontra também nos prédios antigos, como a sede da Câmara da Indústria, Comércio, Serviços e Agropecuária do Vale do Paranhana[6] e o Clube Comercial, que são exemplos da beleza arquitetônica encontrada em muitos prédios situados na área central da cidade. Destaca-se, ainda, o Palácio Municipal Coronel Diniz Martins Rangel, de construção neoclássica, que data do início do século XX, além dos templos das Igrejas Católica e Protestante que estão situados frente a frente na rua principal da cidade.
No interior, ainda existem exemplos de edificações na técnica do enxaimel, trazida pelos imigrantes alemães, principalmente nas localidades de Tucanos, Rio da Ilha e Padilha.

It is located at the back of the Museum of the Republic which was the seat of the federal government when Rio de Janeiro was the capital of Brazil. A very green space, trees, lake, stone grotto, walking path, benches to rest, lots of shade, children's playground, corridor of original 19th century imperial palm trees, sculptures, some animals like ducks and little monkeys… It occupies an entire block from Silveira Martins street, going from Catete street to Flamengo beach.

O Morro da Taquara é uma das montanhas mais bonitas do Parque Nacional da Tijuca. Do alto dos seus 814 metros, é possível ter um visual único da Barra da Tijuca, Pedra Gávea e as outros montanhas da região. Com uma trilha de nível moderado, seu acesso começa no caminho da Ponte Pencil e leva cerca de 40 minutos. É possível também fazer o circuito e ir até os Castelos da Taquara, que da bifurcação até o seu cume leva cerca de 30 minutos. Pra quem não conhece, vale a pena explorar essa parte do parque que é uma das menos exploradas.
