Welcome to our travel vlog as we embark on a journey from Surabaya to the enchanting island of Bali.
In this video we will show where to stay in Bali, how to explore the island, what to see on the first day and where to find Indian restaurant in Ubud, Bali .
After the Mount Bromo tour we came back to Surabaya on the same day and stayed in a hotel just opposite to the Purabaya bus terminal. We had an early morning flight to Bali , and booked a grab taxi to reach the Juanda International Airport .
After checking in and going through security, we were all set to board our flight. The excitement was palpable as we made our way to the departure gate.
The feeling of exhilaration as the plane lifts into the sky never gets old. From our window seat, we could see Surabaya shrinking below us as we soared towards our destination.
We were treated to stunning views of the Indonesian archipelago below. The turquoise blue water and lush green landscapes are a sight to behold.
After a short and smooth journey the warm tropical air welcomed us to the beautiful island of Bali .
Bali can be explored by scooty or a cab . In Bali the petrol price is cheap thus reducing the car rentals. From India itself we had booked the cab , the guide cum driver bhaiya was hence waiting for us at the airport .
87% of the total population of Indonesia follows the Islam religion , whereas the island of Bali is an exception where 87% of it's total population is Hindu by faith . It has a rich cultural heritage and deep spritual connection.
Our first stop was in Uma Pakel , where it is shown how the Luwak coffee is prepared from the poop ???? of the Luwak animal .
The real thrill are for those who seek an adrenaline rush. As the famous Bali swing soared high above the treetops, exhilarating screams and laughter filled the air . A moment to enjoy both for the rider as well the onlookers .
Our next destination takes us to the iconic Tegallalang Rice Terrace, where cascading terraces carve their way across the hillsides, creating a breathtaking tapestry of green . This was not something which I was seeing for the first time , and it reminded me of my school days in Kalimpong where these rice terraces were very common.
We booked accomodation( Arjuna homestay , Ubud) from booking dot com and stayed near to the main market area of Ubud , from where shopping mart , ATM and restaurants could be accessed easily.
Saraswati temple as well as Monkey forest should be included in Ubud itinerary.
We ate Indian food from Bollywood restaurant, which is in Ubud .

Exploring Surabaya - East Java's Big City ????????

I spent a day exploring Surabaya, Indonesia's 2nd largest city.

I started the day off with some famous local food. Rawon is a beef soup that originates from East Java and uses the Keluak as its main ingredient, to give the broth to give a very unique flavour.

I researched for a good place to try this local delicacy, and found there was a restaurant near my hotel with a high rating, called Rawon Setan.

The bowl of soup I was served at Rawon Setan didn't look too appealing but it tasted surprisingly delicious. The meat was high quality too. I'd definitely eat that again.

With belly full of the local soup, I had plenty of energy to explore the city. I ended up visiting the massive submarine that's a popular landmark and tourist attraction in Surabaya.

The submarine was once used by the Indonesian Navy and has now been turned into a museum. I was lucky enough to be able to explore the whole submarine by myself.

After the sightseeing I was hungry for more local Indonesian cuisine. I went on the hunt for the local satay, called 'Sate Kolopo' which is satay that's covered in grated coconut while it cooks on the grill.

I found another highly rated restaurant thanks to Google Maps and took a long walk there, stopping by a street vendor for some durian juice along the way. If you haven't tried durian, it's a type of smelly fruit that you either love it or hate it.

The 'Sate Kolopo' at Sate Kelopo Ondomohen didn't look too appealing, just like the soup I had earlier on. But just like that soup, it was surprisingly tasty. I started off with just the chicken satay and then tried a beef one with bone marrow, which was incredible.

I was feeling like some dessert and remembered Cak Faiz, who I met on my first night in Surabaya. He has a stall selling local porridge desserts. I enjoyed his Pisang Ijo before and remembered that he also had a dessert called Kacang Ijo that I didn't have a chance to try.

I was going to walk there but saw a friendly Becak driver who was looking for some work. He offered me a fair price and off we went.

The way his vehicle is set up, is with a motorbike at the back and a passenger car at the front. So you get a full unobstructed view. I'd love to do a full day tour of a city in one of these things.

At Mr Faiz dessert stall, I finally tried the Kacang Ijo, which is a porridge made from beans. It was cold, sweet and delicious. Just what I needed as Surabaya is one hot city to be exploring in.

This was my last day in Surabaya. Next destination is Makassar in South Sulawesi.

Top 10 Places to Visit on Java - Indonesia Travel Video (Documentary)

Java is one of Indonesia’s most diverse and beautiful islands. In this travel video, I show you 10 of my favorite places to visit. From surreal mountain landscapes and volcanoes to bustling cities, from tranquil fishing villages to historic temples set among green lush rice fields.

I traveled through Asia for a number of years, and visited Java in 2017. This short travel documentary aims to show you my personal top 10 places on this magnificent island. Thanks for watching, and feel free to leave comments below!

Here’s a brief overview of the content in this video (which can be used as a travel guide):

We begin this journey in Jakarta, the nation’s capital, and one of Asia’s largest cities. The city can feel overwhelming at first sight, but there are some great areas to visit, including museums, historic neighborhoods, and modern shopping malls.

After Jakarta, we travel to Yogyakarta, the cultural heartland of Java. It’s a much more relaxed place to walk around, and provides a more traditional perspective of Indonesia, with music performances (gamelan songs) and shadow puppet theatre. I also visit local farmers in the countryside around the city. Most are growing rice in green paddy fields, and are happy to show you around.

Around Yogyakarta you will find two of Indonesia’s most stunning temples. Borobudur is a Buddhist temple, and easily one of the most impressive historic structures in Asia. Prambanan is of Hindu origin, and its architecture is very different from Borobudur.

Mount Bromo is arguably one of Indonesia’s most famous volcanoes, and it’s actually possible to get up on the ridge, to get a peek into its crater. The next destination is Pangandaran, a peaceful seaside town with some beautiful beaches and powerful waves, and a popular holiday destination.

Semarang is a busy city with some beautiful historic architecture, including the church which was built in Dutch colonial times. The Christian minority still uses this church. After Semarang, we travel to Kawah Ijen, a surreal volcanic crater where miners are collecting blocks of sulfur. In some moments, this place felt apocalyptic.

In the fishing port of Banyuwangi (also the gateway to Bali) you will find some spectacular fishing boats, with bright colors and classic design. The town’s atmosphere is friendly, and it’s nice to walk around visiting some of the markets. The region around Banyuwangi is well suited for agriculture, and is used for cacao, rubber, and coffee production.

In the lush green mountains around Wonosobo, you will find some beautiful tea plantations, that are open to visit. We finish the journey in Surabaya, an important business and trading hub in Indonesia. It might not boast a lot of ‘tourist attractions’, but it’s a nice place to visit. The main mosque is a highlight, where the local Muslim population comes to pray. It provides an interesting view into the main religion in Indonesia, Islam. On Fridays, this area turns into an ‘open air restaurant’, with street food sellers offering their finest dishes.

I am a Brazilian-American journalist living in Florida. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!

Best Places To Visit in Surabaya????????

Today I explore a few of Surabaya's famous monuments and landmarks. Surabaya is known as the city of Heroes because of all the people who lost their lives fighting for Indonesia's independence between 1945-1949. I start off at the Heroe's Monument, then head over to Hotel Majapahit, then shoot over to bambu rucing(pointed bamboo), then to a huge submarine monument, and finally to the Surabaya zoo's shark and crocodile monument to close out the video.

*I use both of these companies depending on the destination and requirements of entry. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. Surabaya, INDONESIA ????????: friendly people and delicious Java food

Surabaya, Indonesia - or the city of heroes - is known for its role in Indonesia's independence and also the food. Indonesian food is so tasty, and traditional food in Java is worth a try. In this video, you see how the historical tour continues (remember we started in the first video in Surabaya? It's here: We visit Tugu Pahlawan (Heroes Monument), House of Sampoerna, and Hotel Majapahit, taking a lunch break at Tunjungan Plaza mall for a delicious nasi goreng and rawon. In the end, a surprising street food event near the hotel.

Surabaya is the second-largest city in Indonesia. It's located in Java island (East Java more precisely). The name Surabaya itself means shark and crocodile, referencing a centuries-old tale about a fight between a shark and a crocodile in the area where the city is located. ????????

This trip to Indonesia was before the lockdown.

► WHO AM I?

I am a Brazilian-American journalist living in Florida. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!

P.S.: The funny guy who appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and he's actually camera-shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time ????
