Partners In Parks - United for America - National Parks

... for the benefit and enjoyment of the people.
Partners in Parks - United for America describes the historic role played by concessionaire in the national parks protecting the parks and serving their vision for more than 100 years. This informative video also covers the key challenges facing Americas national parks today and the role concessionaires can play in keeping the American people connected to their parks and helping the National Park Service care for these national treasures.

Our national parks contribute to the physical, mental and spiritual health of those who visit. Visitors re-create and experience unparalleled beauty and encounters with nature. And parks help beyond our health. They offer marvelous learning adventures for biology and history, physics and geology, psychology and the arts. They connect us across geographic, generational, economic and cultural divides.

But many Americans today are not sharing in national park experiences; there is a growing disconnection for many from active, outdoor lifestyles. A generation of Americans has grown up urbanized, surrounded by the lures of technology and spending little time outdoors. In the last twenty years, our nations population has grown by 25% -- and the number of visitors to parks has declined.

All of us involved with parks need to work together to bond the next generation of citizens to the great outdoors. We need to act now because tomorrows Americans wont protect that which they dont understand and value.

National Park Hospitality Association, Washington, D.C. The National Park Hospitality Association (NPHA) is the national trade association of the businesses that provide lodging, food services, gifts and souvenirs, equipment rentals, transportation and other visitor services in the National Park System.

Concessionaires have been attracting and accommodating park visitors for over 100 years. Like the National Park Service, they are committed to long-term protection of park resources and sustainability. For more information, visit

Metro Payment Pilot Fare Gate Unveiling

Metro is inviting riders to help test its next-generation fare payment system using new payment methods, such as contactless credit cards and mobile phones.

Metro is recruiting up to 3,000 riders to participate in the pilot program, which will begin in January and last about three months. Riders selected to test the new electronic payment system (NEPP) will use transit cards, contactless bankcards or mobile wallets on their smartphones to ride Metrorail or Metrobus, and to pay for parking at selected locations.

Pilot participants will use new-generation faregates that will be installed at 10 Metrorail stations and new payment devices on six bus routes. Those customers who regularly travel between the following locations may be eligible to participate:

Metrorail
Ballston, Bethesda, Eisenhower Ave, Farragut West, Gallery Place, Navy Yard, Pentagon, Pentagon City, Shady Grove, Suitland

Metrobus
37, 39, J4, K9, X9, REX

Metrorail Parking
Shady Grove, Suitland

Riders can get more information and sign up to participate in the pilot by visiting wmata.com/paymentpilot.

If the pilot is successful, Metro plans to replace the now decades-old faregates and vending machines at Metrorail stations, and provide new payment options aboard buses and at parking facilities.

The most dangerous bridge in every US state | United States Infrastructure | Tourist Destination

The most dangerous bridge in every US state | United States Infrastructure | tourist destination
On June 7, President Trump rallied in Ohio for his $1 trillion infrastructure plan, a key campaign promise that's now part of his domestic agenda.
One of the plan's goals is to fix America's bridges, which received a C+ grade in the American Society of Civil Engineers' 2017 Infrastructure Report Card. (Overall, US infrastructure scored a D+, and the ASCE estimates the country needs to spend $4.5 trillion by 2025 to improve its roads, bridges, dams, airports, schools, and more.)
Every state has at least one structurally deficient bridge, which the US Department of Transportation (DOT) defines as when one or more key bridge components (e.g. the deck, superstructure, or substructure) is in poor condition. There are 185 million daily crossings on nearly 56,000 structurally deficient US bridges, according to the American Road and Transportation Builders Association.
Using 2017 data from theUS Federal Highway Administration, Auto Insurance Center found the most structurally deficient bridge - based on the highest number of components in poor or worse condition - in each state and Washington, DC.

Total Ride Time: 49 minutes

—————————

Step back, doors closing...

The Green Line made a rocky debut in 1991 as the fifth and final planned route in the DC Metro system. It's seen various construction delays and lawsuits throughout the 1980s, leading to near cancellation. But it's gone on to have a bright future, cutting DC in half longways and taking you to some very popular and historic areas. Like the Red Line, the Green Line starts and ends in Prince George's (PG) County, Maryland, sharing tracks with the Yellow Line down 7th Street through Downtown. The route boasts a total of 21 stops, taking less than an hour to travel end-to-end.

The Metrorail service was launched in 1976 by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), with roots going back to the 1950s. Since then, it's become the second-largest transit rail transit system in America after the New York City Subway. Existing rail cars include the aluminum-skinned 2000/3000 (Breda) and 6000 Series (Alstom), as well as the stainless steel 7000 Series (Kawasaki), with the 8000 Series (Hitachi) set to enter service in 2025. The Green Line spans 23 miles, with trains operating in 6- and 8-car sets, and speeds topping out around 60 miles per hour.

Special thanks to the entire Metro staff.
