It is the rural region between the cities of Ghent and Bruges.
In the north it borders the Dutch Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, in the west to the province of West Flanders
and in the east and south to the regions of Ghent and the Waasland.
The Meetjesland has been recognized as a Regional Landscape since 1998.
It is also one of the more tourist-oriented regions in East Flanders.

Saturday market in Stekene East Flanders Belgium
I go there twice a month on Saturdays. The Hulst Netherlands region is 10 km away and you can come by bike or even by bus 43 ( De Lijn € 1,7 ) 10 ride ticket. Bought Moroccan pancakes for our late afternoon tea at home. ( pleasant ;)

The municipality of Stekene is located in the region of Waasland, on the border with the Netherlands, 10 km north-west of Sint-Niklaas and 20 km west of Antwerp. Select 4K or 1080pHD, Departure point Kapellebrug Hulst The Netherlands 40 minutes to cycle to the center of this municipality Stekene. There are 18000 inhabitants and my visit was a strictly essential displacement, but at the same time I share the route in Belgium. You can also cycle through forest routes to cross the border (recommended to use a mountain bike for the forest), a bit safer because the cycle path is much too narrow when you enter Belgium but your ride will take a little longer.

In de provincie Zeeland vlakbij Stekene hebben wij geen verbinding op zaterdag tot de stad Hulst en busstation uit Vogelwaarde die 10 min rijden is en de verbinding is belangrijk als je weet dat de zaterdag een centrale dag is dat kind en gezin, alleenstaande zich verplaatsen. Het onderwerp Stekene is dan ook een mooi vb van bereikbaarheid en dienstverlening. Wij hebben markt in Hulst op maandag en donderdag die we wekelijks bezoeken dan is er wel een bus maar het tarief is overdreven per persoon € 10 met retour en dit is te duur voor vele gezinnen.
