Our filmmaker, Roman Khomlyak, embarked on a journey to Oregon with the purpose of capturing breathtaking footage within Silver Falls State Park. However, while navigating the park's roads and venturing country roads through Oregon's scenic routes, he was witness to a genuine natural marvel: a constantly shifting landscape that encircled the park and featured an exceptional environment. People here are engaged in agriculture, growing trees, apples, grapes, and much more, for which the Oregonian humid climate is best suited. And Roman was so excited about Oregon's little towns and their atmosphere! Undeniably, it would be a missed opportunity not to share this exquisite beauty with our audience, especially considering that our equipment was already expertly mounted outside the car.

North Santiam River, Oregon - Mehama, Mill City, Big Cliff Dam, Detroit Dam, Detroit, Idanha

A short video documentary of the towns along the North Santiam River, Oregon, including Mehama, Freres Lumber Mill in Lyons, Mill City, the Big Cliff Dam, the Detroit Dam, Detroit, and Idanha. As this area of Oregon slowly transitions from a logging economy to a more tourism-based economy, there is evidence of both the fading past and the coming future growth of the area. While there are a number of derelict and vacant structures, there is still a flourishing business in timber, as shown in the Freres Mill footage, and signs of confidence exhibited by the volunteers converting the old Mehama School into a Community Center, new City Hall and FIre Department buildings in Mill City, along with very active state parks, fishing areas, and the Detroit Marina on the Detroit Reservoir. Filmed for the Oregon Historical Society by James Norman.
