Alakeshwara palace kotte

Alakeshwara Archaeological Site (also known as Alakeshwara Maligaya or Alakeshwara Sohona) is a historical site with archaeological ruins, situated in Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, Western province, Sri Lanka. The site has been formally recognised by the Government as an archaeological protected monument in Sri Lanka.[1]
The site consists of two rectangular shaped building foundations, built out of Kabok stones. The two foundations are located close to each other and assumed to be the palace ruins of King Nissanka Alagakkonara (Alakeshwara), who was a minister of King Vikramabahu III of Gampola.[2][3] The larger foundation is about 12 m (39 ft) length and 5.6 m (18 ft) wide while the smaller square foundation has a length and width of 6.6 m (22 ft). Architectural features and the artifacts found from the site, such as grinding stones and water filters collaborate the assumption that the site is the palace of Alakeshwara.[4] However this site is also known as the mausoleum (tomb) of Alakeshwara,[5] but there is no conclusive evidence to substantiate this claim

Sri Lanka 40+ Best places to visit| Travel 2021| Pearl of the Indian Ocean

My dear friend this video is about:- Reopen internal tourism in Sri Lanka| 40+ Best places to visit Sri Lanka|
“ Ceylon, for its actual size, is undoubtedly the finest Island in the world”
Marco Polo
1293 AD

1, Sri Lanka is a medium size island, It is known as a pearl of the Indian Ocean. this Pearl-shaped island is located 550 miles away from the equator, of 25,332 Square miles (65,610 Sq km) this is a land of sunshine and rain, beautiful plains, mountains and mangrove swamps. The island is also blessed with spices and gems, rivers, lakes and streams, golden beaches, peacock and majestic elephants and warm friendly people and this emerald island blessed with a pleasant climate

4. Sri Lanka is a land favored by the gods. The variety of names from time to time bestowed on it, is an indication of its wonderful situation. From the earliest times, its unique geographical position has won for Sri Lanka an importance out of its to its size.

PHYSICAL FEATURES
5. The physical features of the Island are well marked. Four fifth of the country consist of undulating plains and rather lofty mountain ranges in the Southern centre. Sri Lanka can be divided into three geographic zones that correspond to elevation. The three steps of plains are:
a. First plain or the costal plain.
b. Second plain over 1500 ft above sea level.
c. Third plain over 5000 ft above sea level.

6. The rivers of Sri Lanka originate in the central highlands. From there they flow in a radial pattern towards the plains and empty into the sea. The longest rivers are the Mahaweli Ganga (335 km) and the Aruvi Aru (170 km).

CLIMATE
7. Sri Lanka is typically a tropical island. Two monsoons bless this island, From March to July the wind and rains sweep in, over the sea, from the Southwest, which time the rainfall is exceptionally heavy. By the middle of October the wind veers sharply over the Bay of Bengal until January. These monsoon patterns combine with Sri Lanka’s surface features to create two climatic zones in the country: a Wet

8. Owing to its proximity to the equator the costal plains have a temperature of about 32 C throughout the year but the mercury rarely climbs above 35 C. In the higher interior it is cooler, Nuwara Eliya, a garden city over 6000 ft above sea level has a temperature ranging from 13°C (55°F) in December to 20°C (70°F) in July. Due to the different climatic conditions, Sri Lanka has an exciting and varied range of animal and plant life.

FOREIGN INVATIONS

9. In 1517 the Portuguese, having established friendly relations with one of the kings, founded a fort and a trading post at Colombo. At the end of the 16th century they controlled Maritime Provinces of the island. Consequently, in 1638, the Dutch launched the first series of attacks on Portuguese strongholds in the island. The struggle ended in 1658 with the Dutch gaining control of most of the island, although the kingdom of Kandy remained an independent entity.

10. In 1798 the British captured the entire island, except the kingdom of Kandy. After a number of attempts, the kingdom of Kandy was also annexed to the Crown Colony in 1815. Tea and Rubber estates were introduced and developed during British rule.
