Belgrade Serbia | The Best Things To Do In 3 Days (tips, prices, walking tour, museums)

Belgrade, the vibrant capital of Serbia, boasts a rich cultural heritage, stunning architecture, and breathtaking natural beauty. If you're looking to immerse yourself in this dynamic city and explore its history and artistic treasures, a walking tour that includes visits to the Ethnographic Museum and the National Museum is an ideal way to do so. This tour offers you the chance to delve into the past, admire world-renowned art, and take in panoramic views of the city.
Ethnographic Museum: A Glimpse into Serbian Tradition
Begin your journey at the Ethnographic Museum, where you can delve into Serbia's cultural heritage. Located in the heart of Belgrade, this museum is a treasure trove of artifacts, showcasing the customs, traditions, and lifestyles of the Serbian people. With an entrance fee of just 300 Serbian dinars (approximately 2,56 EUR), it offers an affordable and enriching experience.
As you wander through its halls, you'll encounter a vast collection of textiles, folk costumes, jewelry, and household items, each telling a story of Serbia's diverse and fascinating culture. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated, shedding light on the history, folklore, and daily life of the Serbian people. From intricately woven fabrics to beautifully adorned ceramics, the Ethnographic Museum is a testament to the country's rich heritage.
National Museum: A Journey Through Art and History
After exploring the Ethnographic Museum, make your way to the National Museum, also with an entrance fee of 300 Serbian dinars. This magnificent institution is home to an extensive collection of art and historical artifacts that span the centuries. Housed within a grand building, the museum itself is an architectural gem.
The National Museum is spread across four floors, each with its own unique treasures. On the upper levels, you'll encounter works by renowned artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, and many others. These masterpieces will transport you to different eras and artistic movements, making it a must-visit for art enthusiasts.
The lower floors are dedicated to archaeological finds, providing an insight into the ancient history of Serbia and the surrounding region. From ancient pottery to sculptures, these exhibits are a captivating journey through time.
Skadarska Street: The Heart of Belgrade's Culinary Scene
As your walking tour continues, be sure to explore the bustling Skadarska Street, one of Belgrade's most iconic and charming thoroughfares. Lined with a variety of restaurants, cafes, and bars, it's the perfect place to take a break and indulge in local and international cuisine.
The atmospheric cobblestone street is known for its lively atmosphere, street performers, and inviting outdoor seating. You'll find a wide array of dining options, from traditional Serbian dishes to international flavors. Skadarska Street comes alive in the evening, making it an ideal spot to spend your night. Check also a small nice Demokratija cocktails&coffee bar with a nice choice of local wine and a good selection of teas on Zetska Street.
Dinner at Tri Sesera: A Culinary Delight
For a memorable dining experience, consider making a reservation at Tri Sesera, a renowned restaurant in Belgrade. This charming establishment is known for its delectable Serbian dishes and welcoming ambiance. The menu offers a variety of options, from hearty stews to grilled meats, ensuring there's something to satisfy every palate.
The restaurant's cozy interior and attentive staff create the perfect setting for an enjoyable meal. Whether you're trying Serbian specialties like cevapi or sarma, or savoring international favorites, your taste buds are in for a treat.
Belgrade Fortress: A Historical Gem with a View
Following your dinner, take a leisurely stroll to Belgrade Fortress, an iconic historical site that's free to enter. This ancient fortress, also known as Kalemegdan Fortress, offers a fascinating glimpse into the city's past and boasts panoramic views of the confluence of the River Sava and Danube.
Wander through the well-preserved walls and towers, explore the historical exhibits, and appreciate the lush, manicured gardens within the fortress. The combination of history, architecture, and stunning vistas makes it a must-visit destination.
River Views
From Belgrade Fortress, descend to the lower part of the city where you'll find a row of restaurants along the river, offering enchanting views of the water. This area is a popular destination for both locals and tourists. Sitting by the riverbanks and enjoying a meal or a drink as the sun sets is a truly magical experience.
Boat Trip on the River
If you're intrigued by the idea of experiencing Belgrade from the water, boat trips are available. While the price for a boat trip is 21 euros, it's important to note that we have found these tours to be a bit overpriced for what they offer. A boat was small and somewhat dated, but they do provide a perspective of the city from the river.

#1 - Serbia, Belgrade Area - Ada Ciganlija, full circle around the lake (09/2011)

Known as The Belgrade Sea, Ada Ciganlija is the largest public area for sports, recreation and entertainment. Many facilities are free (including swimming area) but you can also pay for more advanced (private) ones like bungee jumping crane, aqua ski, golf course, tennis, adventure park, ski simulator, etc. There is also a bike path and you can rent a bike in several locations.

It is also known for its multitude of cafes and many (small) restaurants and recently by the new Ada Bridge. You can also use boat taxis to get to/from Novi Beograd side and if you look really closely, you may even find a small.. animal farm.

Ada Ciganlija has hosted many of international championships (mostly rowing). Official website: (serbian only).

During the high season (in the summer), more than 300.000 people come to Ada on weekends. Which makes riding a bike impossible. But if you can catch the right moment, like I did, you can really enjoy.

#129s - Serbia, Belgrade area - Labudovo brdo to Ada Ciganlija and around (07/2014)

Ada Ciganlija is the most popular outdoor site in Belgrade. A river island (sort of), just 4 km from the city centre and covering 800 hectares, Ada is like a small National Park. Offering free public courts/fields for many sports, plus private ones for golf, tennis, rugby and more, with incredible scenery and even a bike path, it's the usual destination for even hundreds of thousands daily visitors. And then, there's the huge lake, where you can swim, but also home to many international sports competitions and fun summer games. So if you visit Belgrade in summer, this should be your number one spot. With a multitude of (free) public showers and drinking fountains, there's nothing to worry about, though you can always opt for one of a gazillion cafe's and basic restaurants. Ice cream and other refreshments can also be found literally all around. You can also enjoy some of the more (or less) extreme sports, like bungee jumping (with the option to actually dip into the lake!), aqua ski machine-pulling water skiing, a diving aquarium, adventure park, ski/skate school, bike rentals, etc. It's very family and kids friendly as well, so you can easily spend entire day here. For the even more nature loving, there's a nudist section of the beach so... well, can't say you're all covered, but you know what I mean.

Of course, before all that, you will be able to see how to get from Labudovo brdo to Ada the more convential way than before, going through Vidikovac, Košutnjak and Banovo brdo. Not my favourite route, but easy to follow. Plus, you can always decide to stay in Košutnjak. ;)

My special greeting this time goes to people who truly allow kids to be kids. They are silly, annoying, loud, reckless and seemingly out of control, but in the end, they are the very definition of life and it's our responsibility to make sure that life is guided properly, not just judged or punished. So, like I said in movie #81, please help children be children. And cut them some slack the next time they drive you crazy in 5 minutes. :)

Belgrade Waterfront, known in Serbian as Belgrade on Water (Београд на води / Beograd na vodi), is an urban renewal development project headed by the Government of Serbia aimed at improving Belgrade's cityscape and economy by revitalizing the Sava amphitheater, a neglected stretch of land on the right bank of the Sava river, between the Belgrade Fair and Branko's bridge. It was started in 2014 with the reconstruction of the Belgrade Cooperative building, which was finished in June of the same year. It is the second largest mixed use complex under construction in Europe, just after Minsk Mir (Minsk World) worth 3.5 billion dollars. It will have 6.000 apartments, seven hotels including W Hotel and St Regis, 2000 offices, largest shopping mall in South East Europe and other public buildings like libraries, kinder gardens and museums.
It was announced on 15 March 2015 that the Phase I apartments in BW Residences, a premium riverside residential development, will be launched for sale. These two towers will each have around 20 floors, consisting of 296 apartment units, and construction started in October 2015.
The project was initiated in 2014 between the Government of Serbia and Eagle Hills, a leading Abu Dhabi-based private investment and development company that is focused on the creation of new city hubs in high-growth international markets. Around €3.5 billion will be invested by the Serbian government and their Emirati partners. The project includes office and luxury apartment buildings, Belgrade Park, Sava Promenada, five-star hotels, Belgrade Mall and Belgrade Tower, which will be the home to Serbia's first St Regis Hotel & St Regis Residences. Standing at 168 metres (551 ft), this building is designed by the architectural firm, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

#82 - Železnik, Serbia - Boljevci embankment to Železnik (07/2013)

And the final chapter of my ride to Obrenovac and Obedska bara, covering not one and not two, but three embankments! This has to be the most beautiful, most scenic ride in and around Belgrade.

Continuing on the previous movie (yes, that would be #81), I will take you along the last section of the embankment to Ostružnica bridge (almost killing myself on the way :)), then do some precision riding across the bridge (please be careful if doing the same) and finally all the way to Železnik. Unfortunately, you won't really see much of it this time, but I will make it up in the last movie of season 2013! Coming.. soon. ;)

Special greeting goes to the city of Sochi, Russia, and everyone participating in the Winter Olympic Games.

#116S - UAE, Dubai area - Garhoud, Deira, the Clocktower and the Creek (04/2014)

Garhoud area is right next to the Dubai International Airport. It's also where the Emirates Aviation College and Training Centre. But the area is perhaps best known for the Dubai Tennis Stadium and its ATP Tournament. And that's exactly where this ride, my first real one in Dubai, starts.

Deira is possibly the oldest area in Dubai. Situated on one side of the Creek, it's been the economic centre od the city for decades if not centuries, using the nearby port to its advantage. This is the area best known for its Souks or trade districts, but to see those you'll have to wait for the next movie. ;)

In this one, I take you by the Deira City Centre mall, around some short streets known only by numbers, but also to the Clocktower, possibly the first landark in Dubai! Then around a bit, to the Creek and the area by the water, all the way to where the Souks begin.

A really interesting ride, but still just getting to feel the bike and.. the drivers.

Special greeting goes to: people doing things in unconventional way! From any baby's point of view, walking up is extremely unconventional, but why stop there? So, do sports in the sun, eat ice cream in winter and yes, even ride a bike in Dubai! Don't let your life go by just doing what everyone does, in the endless search of greater personal comfort. Get out of that comfort zone and you might be surprised with just how good it can make you feel.
