???????? The incredible souk of Damascus | Syria | mE 35

I just walk around the souk of the old city of Damascus. We visit a few khan or caravanserai that are now part of the souk, and in one of them we meet a guy who is fabricating some agals, a very interesting encounter. Then we keep walking around, and we go for an ice cream in the oldest ice cream shop in Syria. And we keep discovering the magical souk of Damascus, full of extraordinary characters, like this guy selling some juice with an incredible object on his back.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

ABOUT KURDISH HERITAGE

Kurdish Heritage focuses on creating awareness for Kurdistan's rich cultural and historic heritage. Kurdistan is a roughly defined geo-cultural region wherein the Kurdish people form a dominant majority. This region is located in what is known as the Cradle of Civilisation; a region where agriculture was first practiced, temples to Gods were first erected, and organised urban communities were first founded.

The word Kurd traces its origin back to the Gutian Dynasty of Akkad, which makes it one of the oldest known words in the world. Besides Kurds, other nations, such as the Assyrians and Armenians, have a long history in these lands as well.

Kurdistan is not only ethnically diverse, but is also home to a great variety of religions. The Kurds themselves are religiously very diverse; even though most are muslim, there are millions of Kurds who practice other religions. Such as Yezidism, Yarsanism, Alevism, Judaism, Zoroastrianism, and Christendom. The prophet Abraham is believed to have been born in Urfa, a Kurdish city in North-Kurdistan*. Urfa, or Riha, was known as Edessa in ancient times. Göbekli Tepe, the oldest known human-made structure, is located 12 kilometers north-east of Urfa. This archaeological site was discovered by a Kurdish shepherd in the early 1960's. This huge religious complex was built 7,000 years (!) before the Great Pyramid of Giza.

This was just a short, general introduction into what Kurdistan has to offer. Kurdistan is a very unknown region to the world, even though it is where humanity first organised itself. Our aim is to change that, despite the many expected obstacles we will face on our journey.

You Never Knew This was in British Columbia! ULTIMATE Canadian Road Trip ????????

In this week's video, we take an unexpected detour through British Columbia as we begin the drive south towards Vancouver. This part of the world is a unique ecosystem that you won't find anywhere else on earth, and we find ourselves in an almost tropical forest of 1000 year old trees, waterfalls that have been carving canyons for 10,000 years and one of our craziest wild camps to date - 300m down an overgrown logging track deep in the Canadian wilderness. We also begin to tread close to the devastating wildfires that have been raging throughout Canada, turning the skies orange and hiding mountain ranges behind a veil of haze and smog.

We're Chesca and Ben, and with our two pups River & Scout (???? ???? ) we live and travel full-time in our self converted sprinter van, Sophia. We spent the past 2 years road tripping as much of Europe as we could, from the wild coasts of Portugal to the Syrian border in Turkey, tackling lockdowns and a van re-build along the way. ???????? Is SYRIA safe to travel? Damascus First Impressions | mE 25

First day of my tour in Syria.
I quickly go around the old city of Damascus with my guide Rula. We walk through the souq, and we visit a khan (a caravanserai, a hotel of the silk road), and we also visit the palace of azem and the umayyad mosque. I attempt filming alone at night, but I fail completely.

mE 10 | The Captain scams me, the Syrian cook feeds me | Going to Lebanon by ship | Turkey

Last ride in Turkey, I find a lovely restaurant before reaching Tasucu. In Tasucu, I buy a ticket to go to Lebanon by ship, and when arriving on the ship, the Captain tries to make me pay an additional 100 USD to get a cabin, I refuse to pay. I give you a tour of the ship, and I sneak around the vessel in search of food. I finally find some bread, and later, the second chief cook offers me a meal. I also manage to sneak into a cabin without having to pay the 100 USD the Captain wanted me to pay.
