Phulbani | Kandhamal | Odisha Tourism
Phulbani is a municipal and administrative headquarters of Kandhamal district.
It is named after the woman 'Phooldei' who was sacrificed by the local residents as a religious ritual for Mother Earth.
Phulbani ki average height is 485 meters.
It is located 211 km from Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha and 165 km from Berhampur, the major city of South Odisha.
The nearest railway station Rairakhol is about 100 km from here. The area around Phulbani has a variety of flora and fauna.
It is a place surrounded by hills and has many small and big waterfalls around it. The Kataramal waterfall is located at a distance of about 31 km from the most spectacular Phulbani.
Putudi Falls, a hot spot among the locals is located at a distance of about 18 km from Phulbani.
The Pakkajhar Falls is located at a distance of about 3–5 km from Sudrakumpa, a small village located 19 km from the main city of Phulbani.
Last but not least, is the Urmgarh waterfall, which is close to 21 km from Phulbani. Phulbani is surrounded by the Saluni River.
As of 2011 India census, Phulbani had a population of 37,371.
Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%.
Phulbani has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 74.5%: male literacy is 83%, and female literacy is 68%. In Phulbani, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
The city has a government college for Intermediate undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
Along with this, there are technical institutes like Government ITI, Polytechnic College and Biju Patnaik Institute of Technology. Recently Kendriya Vidyalaya has been established in Phulbani
Phulbani has many places to visit within the city, some of which are Jagannath temple, newly opened science park etc.

Daringbadi is a hill station in Kandhmal district of Odisha state in eastern India. Widely known as Kashmir of Odisha, It is situated at a height of 915 metres and is a popular tourist destination.

Over the years, this place was named after him, which spelled DaringBadi with Badi meaning village.The temperature level of Daringbadi has often been recorded below 0 °C. It is also famous for its production of superior quality of organic turmeric which already got the G.I. tag. It is also famous for ginger harvesting. Daringbadi is a vast area at the height of about 3000 ft above sea level, it is an ideal summer resort which is popularly named as “Kashmir of Odisha”. The place is gifted with natural bounties such as pine jungles, coffee gardens and beautiful valleys.

Daringbadi and Gopalpur is the most popular tourist places in Odisha, India. Daringbadi is a hill area where as Gopalpur is a sea beach area. There are so many Tourist places to visit Daringbadi and Gopalpur. Brahmapur is the nearest Railway Station of Gopalpur and Daringbadi. There are so many train reaches at Brahmapur from Howrah. No train available from Sealdah. We visit Gopalpur and Daringbadi recently by Howrah Bengaluru SMVT (SMVB) Express, this is a fully LHB Superfast Train. DHARAKOT | THE HEAVEN OF GANJAM
Royal Heritage, Spiritualism, Adventure, and Natural Beauty... This place has everything you can wish for at a tourist spot. That is why I named is the Heaven of Ganjam.
#Dharakot is an erstwhile feudatory state and royal heritage town in the Ganjam district of Odisha. With the royals ruling over 1300 years in this area, the natural beauty, serene views, and the famous looks of the so-called Gadajats of Odisha can be visualized here.
The town is surrounded by mountains on 3 sides and Rushikulya river on one side. It is situated on the Aska-Sorada road and has good access from Bhubaneswar as well as Brahmapur City.
An 800-year-old Jagannath temple is the main attraction here, which has been built on a scale-down model of Puri Shri Jagannath Temple, keeping the parswadevi temples and muktimandap intact. The interesting fact is that the Rath Yatra is celebrated here in a different way due to historical perspectives. The Ratha Tana or pulling of chariots is done on the 2nd day of Rath Yatra. The reason is the kings of Dharakot used to visit Puri to watch Rath Yatra, and when they come back, the Rath at Dharakot is pulled. Although the roads and communication have improved over time, the tradition remains. The nearby royal palace is open for visitors during day time only.
The hidden #tourism spot near Dharakot we are exploring today is the #Shantijhar waterfall and Kathulia Devi temple which is hardly 5 Km away from the main town. The mountains are full of dense forest cover and suitable for adventure activities like mountain cycling, trekking, hiking, and mountain climbing too. Unfortunately, the place is yet to be listed in the Odisha tourism map but it has got a 360-degree attraction for a tourist spot.
Apart from above, there are also Sulia Devi mountains which are 150 meters above the ground, and if you want you can trek to the mountain top. Also, there is Sati Devi Mutt where the pyre of Queen Chandama Devi is kept enlightened for years. The history says Queen Chandama sacrificed herself as a Sati tradition when King died. This was an old tradition in India which was stopped later. In here memory the pyre is still burning.
To cover all the places it will take around One whole day for you hence keep one day reserved to visit this place. This small town can mesmerize you with its spiritualism, royal heritage, and natural beauty altogether, deserving to be named as Heaven of Ganjam district.

Remember the route for Shantijhar waterfalls is still under construction as of November 2020, hence always ask near the Jagannath Temple of Dharakot for alternative routes to the place. Otherwise, you will have to walk for 1 KM from where the maintenance work for the roads is going on.
