Video Tour of Portsmouth NH - Learn what this destination city has to offer

Settled in 1623, Portsmouth New Hampshire claims to be the nation's third-oldest city, and it served as a focal point of ship building and commerce on the Eastern seaboard until the late 1800s. With a population of roughly 20,000 people, Portsmouth is large enough to provide a tremendous amount of experiences and activities but small enough that one never feels like they are living in an urban setting.

Amherst, New Hampshire Town Tour

- Exemplifying the town's colonial flair, Amherst's centerpiece is the Village Green. Visitors strolling past beautiful colonial-era homes and the magnificent town center, can feel the town's deep sense of history. One of only two towns in the country listed in its entirety as a Historic District, Amherst exemplifies late 18th- and early 19th-century architecture and charm.

The homes of Amherst signify appreciation for the heritage of the town, a heritage that goes back to its early days as a Narragansett township. At that time, land was granted by the state of Massachusetts for service rendered in the Narragansett wars. From this grant, Amherst began as part of Dunstable, Massachusetts, then became Dunstable, New Hampshire, and finally Amherst.Recreational facilities include several golf courses, tennis courts, and an outdoor skating rink. Baboosic Lake is available for swimming, boating, and fishing, while the 375-acre Joe English Reservation is a favorite for hiking and cross-country skiing. Annual local festivities include the annual lighting of the Christmas tree on the Village Green, the Fourth of July Parade, and the Amherst Antique Show and Sale in September.

While home prices here are higher, the town supports an excellent educational system, which includes the award-winning Souhegan High School.

Capital of the Granite State | Concord, NH

We're at it again in New Hampshire, however today we get to explore a different region of the state. The Merrimack Valley, as it's called, covers a large area of south-central New Hampshire where its namesake river runs before entering Massachusetts. Here is where one will find the most well known Granite State cities and where the population density is the highest. Among the places calling this region home, the third largest city of this beautiful New England state, Concord is our latest capital city to be visited on the Coverage Project. Our 10th capital city already? Hard to believe it but it's true! With a history spanning more than three and a half centuries and holding the seat of New Hampshire's government for over 200 years, this city of over 43,000 people has held much prominence and influence within the cultural sphere of New England. What's more, Franklin Pierce, the 14th president of the United States, even lived in Concord for a number of years prior to his presidency. Today, we make haste to discover all the places of importance to this city's and the greater New Hampshire culture. We also come across a surprise festival in the downtown area that not even I knew about in advance! There's something really soothing about experiencing the sophisticated vibe of a capital city combined with the humble, colonial appeal of New England culture. Not often might this be the case, so see for yourselves right here in Concord, New Hampshire!
