Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial - The Best View in San Diego

The Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial located in the La Jolla area of San Diego, CA is a must visit location in the city. The view from the top is breathtaking as you can see almost the entire city of San Diego and beaches of La Jolla. The cross at the memorial, which was built in 1954, has been the subject of controversy over the years, as the land was formerly publicly owned and lawsuits were filed over a cross being on public land. The issue was finally resolved in 2015 when the Department of Defense sold the land to the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial Association for $1.4 million dollars.

The memorial is surrounded by plaques honoring veterans from all branches of service. We saw plaques honoring veterans from WWI to the present, including one for former president Gerald Ford.

Mt. Soledad is an overlooked place for visitors to San Diego, but the views from there are second to none in the city.

The plaque locator that we mention in the video can be found here:

California's Central Coast- Part 2/5 (SOLVANG TO SOLEDAD)

Brian is back in his home state of California, this time in the state's spectacular central coast, a region famous the world over for its beautiful beaches, sexy people and luxury villas. But this won't be your stereotypical surf holiday, as he takes you well beyond the beaches, to a side of the Golden State that Hollywood never shows.

Brian arrives in the colorful city of Solvang. At the Santa Ynes Mission, he learns about the town's Spanish origins, before exploring a bit of its Danish side. He then visits the historic Mission La Purisima, considered to be the most beautiful and best preserved in all of California. From there he continues to the historic towns of San Luis Obispo and San Simeon, where he encounters some surprising creatures. From there his journey continues up the historic El Camino Real to three of the state's least visited missions.

I had to wake up earlier than I usually do in order to get this footage. You can tell that I’m quite tired in the beginning of the video. Maybe you think that’s funny, maybe you don’t. Enjoy the sun rising over the edge of the mountains surrounding San Diego, California.
