EL PASO TEXAS and WHITE SANDS NATIONAL MONUMENT - TRAVEL VLOG
Welcome to El Paso, Texas! This is the westernmost city in Texas where Mexico, New Mexico, and Texas converge along the Rio Grande. It's a bi-cultural city with a thriving commercial economy due to the trading hub with Mexico. In fact, the Ciudad Juárez is directly across the border.
Downtown El Paso is alive with a fun craft brew scene and art district. We visit the Sun City Craft Beer Festival, which has local craft brews from the region, and the exhibits at the free El Paso Art Museum to get a taste of the culture.
We take a side trip an hour and a half north of El Paso to White Sands National Monument to visit the white dunes. Next we visit El Paso's historic mission churches on the Mission Trail. The missions include Ysleta Mission, Socorro Mission and San Elizario Missions dating back to 1682, which are on the National Register of Historic Places.

The original plan was to travel from the US/ Mexico Border south through Mexico and South America with an end goal of reaching Antarctica. But since our travel plans have been on hold due to everything that is going on in the world at the moment, we have been back home for the past couple of weeks. Since we'll be home for a while it seems like the perfect time to give you an intro to our home town and highlight some of the beauty of El Paso, Texas!

HISTORIC WALKING TOUR OF DOWNTOWN EL PASO + LJ CAFE
One of the first things we do when visiting new cities is research!! The research usually starts with the downtown area. They are usually filled with tons of art, history, and exciting new places to uncover, so what better way to explore El Paso than with beautiful downtown.
We downloaded the visitelpaso app and found tons of things to do, but what really called our attention was the Downtown walking tour.

The app lays out a great walking route, offers tons of information about the different stops around the city, and even offers audio. We'll definitely be looking to do other activities featured on the app, but for now, the downtown walking tour is a great way to start.
After exploring the downtown area and getting a good dose of history, we decided to end the day with an El Paso favorite, L & J Cafe. It was the first time we've ever been to this local hot spot, and we were not disappointed! We had the Tortilla soup and the Green chicken Enchiladas and they were bomb. But check out the video to see it for yourself!

???????? EL PASO, TEXAS, USA - Welcome to Mexico! Huh? Ok, this is part 4 of my 2022 Mexico series, but while staying in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua (the previous video), I decided to head across the Mexico/US border over to El Paso, Texas, primarily to compare and contrast both sides of the border in the US and Mexico, and secondarily to sarcastically stick knives in those who constantly highlight Mexico as being DANGEROUS or not SAFE, purely because those saying that are white, western, English speakers. Considering the 2019 El Paso Walmart shooting, the question is, IS THE USA SAFE?
We check out some things to do in El Paso such as Hotel Paso del Norte and it's spectacular early 1900s Dome Bar, with its Tiffany Dome and Titanic-esque decor, St Patrick's Cathedral, Coffee Box, streetcars, Las Plazas District, the Office District, the main shopping street across the border, San Jacinto Plaza and in general, the Downtown area. As someone who appreciates 70s/80's modern US skyscraper architecture, I loved El Paso!
I also cover my experience at the Mexico to USA border crossing. Is it a place solely for illegal immigration? I have done an overland Mexico to US crossing before, but 17 years ago in Tijuana/San Diego. It was an interesting and vastly contrasting experience depending on the direction!
If you're thinking of embarking on Mexico Travel in 2022, my channel is a good place to start. I've been to 22 states and (nowadays) visit some more less-common states in northern Mexico such as Chihuahua, Durango, Sinaloa and so on. Plus the more common classics like Guanajuato, Mexico City and more if you're into more of the expats in Mexico or moving to Mexico business! (not my thing!)

We visit Hueco State Park located just 30 minutes from El Paso. We take a guided tour and view ancient pictographs left from ancient man. We hike the Languna Prita trail, site 17 trail, and Chain trail. If you enjoy hiking, history and rock climbing this park for you.
Sacred Desert Sanctuary
For thousands of years, people have trekked to these rock hills in far west Texas. In earlier times, they came for the rainwater pooled in natural rock basins, or huecos (“whey-coes”). Visitors today marvel at the imagery left by those ancient people.
Things to Do
At Hueco Tanks, you can hike, rock climb, bird watch, study nature and history, picnic and stargaze. Visitors can take guided and self-guided tours to view rock imagery.
Stop by the interpretive center, in a historic ranch house, to learn about the park and its history. The park store at headquarters sells gifts and other items.
Hueco Tanks is mainly a day-use park. However, they do have 20 campsites.
Access to the park is restricted to protect its fragile resources. Hueco Tanks has guided and self-guided areas. Explore those by:
????Guided tour: You must book tours a minimum of one week in advance by calling (915) 849-6684.
????Self-guided visit: We issue permits for 70 people to access the North Mountain area each day. To make sure you get in, reserve permits up to 90 days before your visit by calling (512) 389-8911. Learn about reserving permits on our Activities page.
