Top 10 worst small towns in Tennessee. The Volunteer State has some sad towns.

Top 10 worst small towns in Tennessee. The Volunteer State has some sad towns.

Tennessee is a great state. I know a handful of people from the Volunteer state and they are all amazing people. But like all cities, states, and towns they have some problems. That is what this video is about. Towns with serious problems. If you have ever thought about moving to rural or small-town Tennessee you probably would want to stay away from these areas. Talk to a local real estate agent before you decide to buy a home in any of these.

US 84 - Lubbock to Post, Texas

US-84 enters into Texas at Farwell, concurrent with US-70 from New Mexico. The US-70 overlap ends in Muleshoe. US-84 bypasses the towns of Littlefield and Shallowater before entering Lubbock. The highway just passes north of the Texas Tech University campus and enters downtown as Avenue Q. As Avenue Q, the highway parallels I-27 before crossing it, just north of that highway's southern terminus. Leaving the city, US-84 serves the towns of Post and Snyder before reaching Roscoe, where it begins its overlap with I-20.

The two highways run through Sweetwater before reaching Abilene. US-84 leaves the interstate on the western side of the city, running with I-20's business loop. US-84 joins US-83/US-277, with US-277 leaving the concurrency after a short distance. US-84 leaves US-83, northeast of Tuscola. US-84 runs southeast to Coleman, overlapping with US-283 in the process and joining US-67. After leaving Brownwood, US-84 leaves US-67 and joins US-183. US-84 becomes a solo route again in Goldthwaite, traveling through Gatesville. In Gatesville, the hwy meets SH-36, which coincidentally also runs to Abilene, albeit in a more direct way than US-84.

East of McGregor, US-84 becomes a 4-lane divided highway before becoming a freeway in Woodway. At SH-6, US-84 becomes a surface street, running through Waco. The highway enters Bellmead before leaving the Waco area. Several miles to the east, the highway enters Palestine. US-84 runs through several smaller communities before crossing over the Toledo Bend Reservoir, into Louisiana, running towards Mansfield.

US-84 is part of the El Camino East/West Corridor, which spans five states starting in Texas

Visiting Downtown Clarkston Michigan | Small Downtowns

Today, we are continuing our small downtown's series by visiting Clarkston Michigan. Clarkston Michigan is a rather small downtown located in Oakland County Michigan right on M-15. Even though it is a small city (smallest city in Michigan by land area) there were plenty of interesting things for us to explore.

We didn't get to go into any shops nor eat at any restaurants because we arrived at a 3 o'clock and all the shops closed by 3 and non of the restaurants, with the exception of Honchos, opened up until after 4 p.m. That didn't stop us from doing a bit of window shopping and admiring all of the buildings in town. We even were able to located some window artwork that looked very familiar to some we have seen in other Michigan towns, such as Oxford, Lake Orion, and Lapeer Michigan. I'm really beginning to think they are done by the same artist or team of artists.

Both Lindsay and I loved visiting the small town of Clarkston and would encourage you to check it out if you are in the area. Thanks for watching.

The Largest HO Scale Layout in Minnesota -- Cab Ride

The North Metro Model Railroad Club built the largest (known) HO layout in the State of Minnesota. Located in a 5,000 Square Foot basement it is NOT a public layout. However, the NMMRC does hold public open houses a couple of times a year.

Adventures in Slaton TX

Two siblings travel to Slaton, Texas to re-discover the history of their grandmother who told so many stories of her youth in Slaton. (Their grandmother moved from St. Louis with her parents to Slaton as a young teen around 1913. Her parents, JJ and Blanche Neihoff remained in the town of Slaton most of their lives.) They also visit to the farmland near Slaton purchased by their great-great grandfather Samuel Grismore, who passed this land to his only heir, their grandmother. The history of the land is rich, and it is cherished by the family.

Yellow House Canyon

Yellow House Canyon is about 32 km (20 mi) long, heading in Lubbock, Texas, at the junction of Blackwater Draw and Yellow House Draw, and trending generally southeastward to the edge of the Llano Estacado about 10 km (6.2 mi) east of Slaton, Texas; it forms one of three major canyons along the east side of the Llano Estacado and carries the waters of the North Fork Double Mountain Fork Brazos River. (Wiki)

Post, Texas

Post is located on the edge of the caprock escarpment of the Llano Estacado, the southeastern edge of the Great Plains.

The land belonged to John Bunyan Slaughter, as it was on his U Lazy S Ranch. In 1906, Slaughter sold it to Charles William (C. W.) Post, the breakfast cereal manufacturer, who founded Post City as a utopian colonizing venture in 1907. Post devised the community as a model town. He purchased 200,000 acres (810 km2) of ranchland and established the Double U Company to manage the town's construction. The company built trim houses and numerous structures, which included the Algerita Hotel, a gin, and a textile plant. They planted trees along every street and prohibited alcoholic beverages and brothels. The Double U Company rented and sold farms and houses to settlers. A post office began in a tent during the year of Post City's founding, being established (with the name Post) July 18, 1907, with Frank L. Curtis as first postmaster. Two years later, the town had a school, a bank, and a newspaper, the Post City Post, the same name as the daily in St. Louis, Missouri. The Garza County paper today is called the Post Dispatch. The railroad reached the town in 1910. The town changed its name to Post when it incorporated in 1914, the year of C. W. Post's death. By then, Post had a population of 1000, 10 retail businesses, a dentist, a physician, a sanitarium, and Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian churches.

From 1910 to 1913, Post experimented with attempts at rainmaking. Explosives were detonated in the atmosphere at timed intervals. Precipitation records, however, showed that the efforts failed.

The C. W. Post estate pledged $75,000, and the town raised $35,000 in 1916 to bid unsuccessfully to become the site of the proposed West Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College.

Postex Cotton Mills began production in 1913 with 250 employees. When the Post interests sold the business in 1945 to Ely and Walker Dry Goods Company of St. Louis, the plant was producing six million yards of cloth a year and employed 375 workers who manufactured Postex cotton sheets and Garza pillow cases. Ely and Walker sold Postex in 1955 to Burlington Industries, the world's largest textile manufacturer at that time. By 1973, the company employed 450 persons. The mill has since closed.

Oilfield service companies have been important to the economy, as have farming and ranching. In 1989, Post had two libraries, a hospital, a nursing home, an airport, the Post Dispatch (founded 1926), and 90 businesses. The population reached 3,400 in 1928, declined to 2,000 in 1940, and increased to 3,100 during the 1950s. With the development of the local oil industry, the town's population attained its highest level of 4,800 in 1964. The 1980 census showed a population of 3,864, but by 1988, the Texas Almanac reported 4,162. In 1990, the population was 3,768.

The former sanitarium in Post is preserved as the Garza County Historical Museum. It is located to the right rear of the courthouse. Linda G. Puckett is the museum director.

Many ranchers and civic boosters live in Garza County, among them Giles McCrary, a former mayor who until his death in 2011 operated the OS Museum, a hybrid of exhibits from both the American West and Asia, which are changed three times per year. Two baseball fields in Post are named for former resident Norm Cash.
