???????? Dzharylhach Island BLACK SEA BOAT Ride: How Close is Crimea to Ukraine? {Budget Travel UKRAINE}
(Since February 2022, the Black Sea has been a battleground between the defensive Ukranian troops and the attacking Russian armed forces. The territory of Crimea is only a few kilometers away and has been in Russian occupation since 2015.)Just in time for a sunset, the campsite is established on Ukraine's Dzharylhach Island National Park, the largest island in the Black Sea.
A surprisingly relaxing travel day along the coast, the quantity of time though was a lot given the short length of the journey. For less than 100 kilometers, 12 hours were needed between a hitched ride, two minibuses (marshrutka) and a Black Sea boat ride.
Travel in Ukraine's rural areas is challenging, generally because of the distances and the sparse populations between villages. Infrastructure too limits direct routes while the English language barrier is always prevalent.
However, all's well that ends well for Matt. Besides watching the sunset, along the way Ukraine's countryside is observed, the marshrutka experience was not too painful and some wildlife was seen in the Black Sea (dolphins and jellyfish.)
