Tourism increased significantly between 2010 and 2019, with the number of visitors increasing from 460,000 per year to 2 million. Condé Nast Traveler describes that high level as overtourism. One source estimated that in 2019 the revenue from this aspect of the economy was about 450 million kroner (US$67 million).

When the music festival Arctic Sounds takes place in April one team of musicians dogsled from Kangerlussuaq to Sisimiut. Through this arctic country powered by fuzzy husky paws, they venture on to write a new and original song.

A Quick Tour of Sisimiut Above the Arctic Circle in W Greenland
Sisimiut (pop: 5,600) is the second largest and northernmost tow in Greenland (40 kilometers/24 miles) above the Arctic Circle and has been inhabited for the last 4,500 years by the Inuit, Dorset and Thule people.
Danish missionaries first settled in this area in the 1720s. Fishing is the principal industry and there is an airport served by Air Greenland.
It is important to know that dogs in Greenland are valuable to their owners as working dogs and when chained, not to be touched.

#22 Greenland: Food tasting and exploring Sisimiut!
In this video I explored Sisimiut, Greenlands second biggest town. The town is located 75 km north of the arctic circle on the west coast of Greenland. Sisimiut literally means the residents at the foxholesin Greenlandic.
The weather was great with up tp 11°c, cloudy and almost windstill, so we had ideal vlog conditions!
Sisimiut is the northermost year-round ice-free port in Greenland and serves a shipping base for western and northwestern Greenland, which means it is very important for the towns and settlements further north.
The town is known for the shrimp they hunt in the waters near Sisimiut and they also have a large shrimp / fish factory in the town which. Fishing is the principal indistry in Sisimiut.
As you will see in the vlog, I tried some Greenlandic food, including whale. I understand that many of the viewers might be against whale hunting, which I also am. However, you need to understand that a big part of Greenland is in the high arctic and there it's impossible to grow crops and many of the products we take for granted are not easily accessible. Therefore, the population needs to rely on what they find in nature and that includes whale meat. Having said that, a lot of things, like fruits and vegetables, are more accessible in a big town like Sisimiut than in smaller settlements.
