북쪽으로 오류동, 경서동과 인접하며 동쪽으로는 연희동, 가정동과 맞닿아 있으며 남쪽으로는 신현·원창동이 있다. 서쪽으로는 인천 앞바다가 열려 있으며 추후 검단구가 분구하게 되면 서구의 북서쪽 끝지역이 된다.
청라호수공원은 다양한 물의 이용을 통한 친수공간으로 조성된 곳이다. 호수공원 전체를 연결하는 순환동선 4개 공간으로 결합하여 과거,현재,미래를 잇는 새로운 패러다임을 제시한다.
청라국제도시를 남북으로 크게 갈라놓는 모양으로, 청라 1, 2, 3, 4단지와 5, 6단지 성격을 크게 구분짓는 시설이다. 그래서 호수공원 아래에 청라의 동-서축 간선도로인 청중로와 경제로가 제법 깊은 지하차도로 지나간다.
