Intro to 2 more interesting places you likely never heard of- Bisti Badlands and Shiprock New Mexico

Another of my discovery shorts which is a series on videos about places that are off the beaten path with few amenities. They're places people should see even if they never travel to them. Bisti is a BLM wilderness with no trails and lots of interesting scenery.
Shiprock has been a landmark and waypoint for travelers for 100s of years. It's sacred to the Navajo. It's a remnant of a volcano that was once buried. Time, wind and rain eroded 1000s of feet of soil away revealing the solid core and more amazing- several volcanic dikes that reach up to 200 feet in the air while being only a few feet thick. Drone footage shows shows how amazing this place is.

1:42:57 Rio Grande Gorge Bridge
1:44:43 Capulin Volcano National Monument

New Mexico's parks are less crowded many other western parks but still have stunning scenery. On this trip we drive from South to North. Starting by exploring 3 of the least visited National Parks in the country- White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mts..

In Alamogordo we visit New Mexico's Space History Museum and see rockets tested at the nearby missile range.

We go to one of my favorite places- 3 Rivers Petroglyphs site to hike among 20,000 ancient rock carvings and meet a blind lady in her 70 who enjoys hiking!

On the road north we go to the UFO museum in Roswell. And then walk on a Lava Field at the Valley of Fires BLM camping area, before visiting the Trinity Site.

In Albuquerque we visit the 4 sites of Petroglyph Monument including a volcano field! While looking at a map I saw a marker for Coronado State Park, so we make an unscheduled stop to see the remains an old adobe village on the Rio Grande where Spanish Conquistador Coronado once stayed- until the battle.

We make a quick stop at a stone church built in 1621. On our way to Super Volcano- or at least its remains-- Valles Caldera.

The highlight of the northern part of the trip is the cliff dwellings at Bandelier National Monument. We visit the cliff houses and see the nearby stone village.

We make a quick stop in Santa Fe and another in Taos before flying over the spectacular Rio Grande Gorge Bridge before our final stop on top of a cinder cone volcano and Capulin Volcano National Monument.

A Local's Guide To Must-See New Mexico | Best In Travel 2023

BEST IN TRAVEL 2023: NEW MEXICO
Learn why New Mexico is called the Land of Enchantment. Is it because of the state's thousand-year-old pueblos where Native Americans still live in today? Or the fiery-red deserts that you can cross on horseback or by hot air balloon? Or perhaps, is it because of the modern and contemporary art scene that New Mexico's capital Santa Fe is world-famous for? Native American hoop dancer ShanDien LaRance shows us her top places to go and things to do while introducing us to the native land and culture of her home state.

Bisti Badlands BLM photo-Spot and Navajo sacred Landmark Shiprock - in the Uncrowded part of New Mex

The long version of a Discover Short for those interested in visiting the west away from crowds. Bisti is a BLM area that allows boondock camping. Bisti is a trailless wilderness where you are free to wander where ever you wish. When the light is right, it's one of the most photogenic places in the west. Outdoor photographers are just beginning to discover this amazing place.
Shiprock has been used as a waypoint for travelers for hundreds of years- but few ever get close to it. In this video we do. I show you the 1581 foot volcanic core and its amazing 200 foot high walls (volcanic dikes) that radiate from it for miles. Great places off the main tourist path- so away from crowds.

7/28/2020 (San Juans Rona road trip, day 2 of 9)
There's a dirt road leading to the bottom of this amazing rock, but my car was too old for the task. So I just took some photos from a distance.

San Juans Rona Road Trip Playlist:

Ship Rock New Mexico From Above If Moab’s parks are too crowded, head south to 4 Corners

A travel guide to a 4 Corners Landmark-- and also a geology lesson.
Fly over 150' tall natural volcanic dike and the remnants of an extinct volcano that WAS buried under 1000s of feet of dirt which has eroded away.-- pretty cool!
