Most of our tourists know very little about the sights of Tajikistan, so they often choose other countries for their holidays. It is located in the densely populated Hissar valley, at the foothills of the Pamir mountains, at an altitude of about 800 meters above sea level. The Varzob river (Dushanbe) flows through the city from North to South, feeding an artificial lake in the center of the city. The population of Dushanbe is about 1 million people, the majority of the population professes Islam.
Administratively, Dushanbe is divided into 4 urban districts: ismoila Somoni, Sino, Firdavsi and Shohmansur. To the North of the city is the picturesque Varzob gorge, which is considered the most popular recreation area in the vicinity of Dushanbe.

Душанбе (Dushanbe) – столица и крупнейший город Республики Таджикистан. Расположен в густонаселённой Гиссарской долине, у предгорий Памира, на высоте около 800 метров над уровнем моря. Через город с севера на юг протекает река Варзоб (Душанбинка), питающая искусственное озеро в центре города. Население Душанбе составляет около 1 миллиона человек, большинство населения исповедует ислам. Административно Душанбе разделён из 4 городских района: Исмоила Сомони, Сино, Фирдавси и Шохмансур. К северу от города находится живописное Варзобское ущелье, которое считается самой популярной зоной отдыха в окрестностях Душанбе.
История города. Первое письменное упоминание о Душанбе датируется 1676 годом. Поселение возникло на перекрёстке дорог, где по понедельникам собирался базар. Название «Душанбе» в переводе с таджикского означает – понедельник. В разные периоды город находился под властью монгольских и арабских завоевателей. В 1922 году Душанбе перешёл в руки большевиков и был
провозглашён столицей Таджикской автономной социалистической советской республики, которая в 1929 году была преобразована в Таджикскую ССР. При Советской власти из кишлака с глинобитными лачугами Душанбе превратился в красивый город-сад, крупный административный и культурный центр региона. В 1991 году после распада СССР Душанбе стал столицей независимого Таджикистана.
Транспорт Душанбе.
В городе Душанбе представлены железнодорожный, авиационный и автомобильный виды транспорта. Воздушными воротами города является Международный аэропорт Душанбе (DYU) – крупнейший аэропорт Таджикистана. Железная дорога связывает Душанбе с Москвой.
С автовокзала Душанбе осуществляются рейсы автобусов практически во все регионы Таджикистана. Городской общественный транспорт Душанбе представлен автобусами, троллейбусами и маршрутными такси. К 2025 году планируют строительство Душанбинского лёгкого метро или скоростного трамвая.

Part 10 - Pamir Tadjikistan. Without vehicle we crossed the Pamirs using our thumbs and some hard cash. The highest pass was 4655 meter (15,270 ft). This is road is classes as worlds second highest highway (M41). Do it look like a highway? This is the way to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from Dushanbe. Beware of altitude sickness :)

Климат субтропический внутриконтинентальный, несколько смягчается горным положением города. Лето в Душанбе длительное и жаркое, осадки очень редки. Зима сравнительно короткая, вследствие стока влажного воздуха в зимний период, зима сопровождается обильными осадками, чем отдалённо напоминает средиземноморский климат. Весна дождливая и относительно затяжная, с частыми грозами.
Начало осени относительно сухое, однако затем осень становится дождливой и сырой. Выражены сухой (июнь — октябрь) и влажный (декабрь — май) сезоны.
Средняя температура января — 1 °С, июля — 28 °С. Январские температуры в долинах колеблются от 0 °С до 2 °С, в высокогорьях опускаются до −28 °C, июльские температуры в долинах колеблются от 23 °С до 30 °C, в горах — от 4 °С до 15 °С. Максимум осадков приходится на зиму и весну, летом и осенью дожди идут редко.
